If you ram a car hard you'll get a penalty that locks your speed at 90mph or so for a few seconds. Aside from that you only get fame reductions.

Ok, good to know, thanks. Still not quite sure what the first paragraph of the Eurogamer review is talking about then, but car jargon is just very very much beyond me anyway lol

So the multiplayer options do appear a little limited but people are definitely interested in making some DIY cat and mouse games right? That no mans land period of PGR3 where you could just stumble into a C+M game during a 'race' was my favourite!

Also Is there a 'join a driveclub' thread I am missing? I need a club.

It seems my fears, specially about content, is the main problem. And people were taking me as a troll!
Still sounds like a very solid game. Whats happening was already expected. Gonna try the Plus version and judge myself if it is worth 50 dollars this month, Im confident it is a good racing experience anyway.

I'm not a charity for incompetent developers. Evo should have done another Motorstorm and kept to their wheelhouse.

What wheelhouse? You mean like in the PS2 era when they were predominantly known for making some of the best rally games around? They're a racing game developer, not one that can only do one thing.

Anyway, the reviews don't surprise me. But people should keep them in mind hte next time they wonder why NAMCO isn't making another Ridge Racer or why we don't see classic Sega racers anymore.

I haven't played dricvdclub yet so I can't judge for certain on the scores out there but something is up with review scores this gen.

If it's not innovative with "next-gen gameplay" it is immediately penalised. That seems to be the general theme in a lot of reviews, exclusive or not. And it's a criticism which I whole-heartedly disagree with.

The rewind & too hard comments are funny as fuck tho, as was the level of ignorance about pretty much everything in the Giant Bomb review, from the PS+ stuff to not knowing what a hatchback is - but then trying to sound authoritative about how best to set a car up for drifting.

Sounds like Initial D?

The speed penalty was why I tried to not hit anything when I played it on PSP iirc.

It was something that made me want to improve my driving.

From IGN. I mean... :|
Nothing wrong in that. I said it ages ago. Reviewers will look at this game and look at other racers, no matter the type.

They will play DRIVECLUB and question 'would this be better if...', and if they feel it would be better if it was open world then there's nothing wrong with that. And it isn't necessarily that they're saying it should be open world, rather an open world game they feel is more compelling to their audience.

Open world is popular and has more of a mass market appeal after all.

Same sites saying it didn't innovate enough are the same ones who keep giving Madden 8 and 9 every year.... way to maintain that credibility.

You're going to wub it.
Soundtrack here, https://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/id925924957

This could get boring/annoying pretty quickly unless the remix tracks are significantly different.
All Torque + 6 remixes
Be Here Now + 5 remixes
Power Curve + 5 remixes
The Club Rules + 3 remixes
Tunnel Vision + 3 remixes

PS4 is linked to my PC setup so i can use the PC for music on the rear speakers and have the DC audio from the front speakers and mute the game music.

Now to find if i can add funds to my wallet via the PSN site before buying digital.

Driveclub would have been untouchable if the developers had put a little more thought into it. It's a good game but would have been an outstanding one if they had done the following:
Delayed it till December
Included the following things:
Free roam mode. So you could just drive around the tracks in your own time
Photo mode at launch
Weather at launch
Basic driving assists on or off
Driving line on or off
Replay mode at launch
Very simple and basic things that would have made it much more approachable!

I am not sure why driving games need free roam at all really...I mean aside from rally driving and off road racing, I have never thought, why if only I could roam over those fields in my car...

Open world is popular and has more of a mass market appeal after all.

And yet the most popular racers around are Gran Turismo and Mario Kart. Circuit racers. The idea that open world racers have more of a mass market appeal is nothing more than a myth. It may appeal more to reviewers who seem to dislike actual racing, but that's not the case with the general consumer.

Wow, I didn`t thought that Driveclub will only get 9 and 10s. But these scores are just ridiculous! Lack of rewind feature? lol...Missing drivingaids? lol...too hard? lol...

And these sites are asking themselves why they are growing more unimportant from day to day. It`s just sad for Evolution Studios that bonuses and further projects depend on such "journalists", who do not know what they are doing.
Yeah ..

Same people that will be put the best SIM racers at their hands like GT7 and FM and won't know how to review it there won't be rewind in one of those for sure there won't be no free roaming fuck one of them won't even let you play pass a poit or get amazing cars if you can't get a driving license lol

Complain about things a game does not have but ITS NOT THAY TYPE OF GAME is just plain stupid no free roaming? Wtf no rewind?wtf no mechanical damage? wtf I don't get it drive club want never to be any of those things I just don't understand complain that they are not there don't get it why not rate it for what it was said to be from day one DriveClub or any other game

But yes I do agree in some things game is lacking things that were said to be in it that YES is a valid complain other than those things that we all know should be there what game are they and people here reviewing ? Some made up game the dev never said they were making ?

Hey guys, we made a small interview with Alex Perkins, art director of Driveclub. There are some questions about racing wheels support, AI system, race track events, potential replay editing, head tracking with PS Camera and car customization in Driveclub. So if you're interested head over here :D

To me that feels like saying, "well, the vistas in Driveclub are amazing, pity it's not an RPG". It's judging a game for something it's not. It doesn't matter if an open-world is more compelling, or popular, or has mass-market appeal. The game is not that. It should be judged for what it is - not what it never was.

Btw guys, here is my video showing how the cloud system affects the race's visibility:
http://www.gamersyde.com/hqstream_driveclub_cloudcover_insanity-33212_en.html
While it is an amazing technical achievement, having the lighting being different after a restart (and you will do a lot of these) is a strange idea.

I know most people won't look at it like this, but the variety of lighting is a random challenge and I like that and helps at making no two races alike. Sure people might have things set to noon only races to get the best times, but in a buddy race, or gaf club race having the random lighting and such could really mix things up and add tension. "I almost had Mike but I came to the tunnel again and it was a bit dark which freaked me out and I choked haha. Let's go at it again sometime Mike!"

My first time racing with Gaf members on the ring in GT5 with day night setting was scary, exciting, and fun.

I remember when this was first announced I thought it was going to be open world (essentially like The Crew but smaller and prettier) and when I found out it wasn't my anticipation pretty much disappeared, Then the delay killed it completely.

That said I'm still going to give the plus version a go obviously.

Imagine how many good games(not saying Driveclub is a good game) people missed out in the past due to bad reviews. I'm glad we can easily watch live streams and demos are easily accessible now of days to help our purchasing decisions. Some times, I read/watch reviews and they knock off points for things that I never cared about. Who in their right mind had the mindset that Driveclub was an open world racer? That's like knocking off points off NBA Jam because it isn't a sim game. It's like the wrong guys review the wrong games for certain websites.

Can someone explain what exactly is provided with the Free version? I ask b/c originally I thought 11 tracks (india) but based on some reviews, it seems like more tracks will be provided for free each month. Is that correct?

Bought this anyway despite the reviews. So thankful to have both this and Forza Horizon 2. They should keep me busy for a very long time

So after getting about 5 races in, my initial impressions so far are.... "eh, it's ok." Not terrible by any means, and good fun, but not amazing.

I like the track designs a lot, and the cars look good, but I definitely need to rewire my brain around the driving model, which I don't love (it feels like there are some strong driver assists that aren't defeatable). So the handling feels way more like an arcade-y racer, but then the points system seems to want to make you take it very seriously. Also, for some reason the graphics aren't really blowing me away; the trackside detail is amazing and I like a lot of the color palette choices, but it also seems strangely grainy in a way (aliasing or something?) and the frame rate is realllllllly noticable for me, which is odd because I don't really notice the framerate in Horizon 2 which is running at the same fps, right? Also, the opponent AI seems sort of brain-dead in a lot of ways, maybe not to early Gran Turismo levels of "MUST STAY ON THE LINE AT ALL COSTS", but kind of simplistic.

One thing I do like is there are basically no cutscenes, you can go right from race to race ina flash, and the races loads insanely fast (at least my download version does).

That is factually incorrect. The best selling racing game of 2014, Mario Kart 8, is a circuit racer. Forza Motorsport 5 sold significantly better than Forza Horizon 2. And Gran Turismo consistently sells better than any open world racer.

You'll get all of the tracks from India and any additional DLC tracks that they may release for that location.

Only the India tracks, you won't receive the new location and the tracks of Canada, Scotland, Norway and Chile.

Assists were in the game but they took them out. I'm sure they have good reasons.

Here's my review for Driveclub.

Thing about Driveclub is, it's fantastic.

Seriously. Arcade-ish, but brutal. Cunt AI that will try to fuck you up. Amazing atmosphere and music.

Only problem is that it has quite low amount of content since the focus is on multiplayer racing. Sort of like Titanfall, Battlefield where it shines when it's online.

I give it an 8. Once it gets patched with Replay and Weather, it'll pretty much be a 9.

What wheelhouse? .

The problem is that Evolution is known for making very good, very fun arcade racers LIKE Motorstorm.

You can't do a straight arcade racer like this and not have a "hook" like the pokecar games do (GT, Forza), or incorporate lots of various activities (Horizon), or make them arcadey and over the top ridiculous (Burnout, NFS).

And that's the problem, and what I meant by Evolution needing to stick to their wheelhouse for the next game. They clearly don't have the game design talent to compete with the GTs and the Forzas, so either go with the absurd like Motorstorm or give us much more "game" to get our teeth around.

Maybe Codemasters are taking note and next F-1 game will be open world.
Yeah it has to think MotoGp is going open world to they both adding rewind and custom paint jobs ..

It's getting stupid when reviewers aren't able to see a game for the type of game it is a FPS can be. FPS and have nothing to do with another FPS same for DriveClub and horizon2 that all this revies seem to bring up weird how they didn't bring up that horiszon and the latest open world racer are just glorified NFS Undergrounds .. Just a looottt less fun than underground from everything story to what you could do to the car

But any ways haven't got DriveClub trying to finish as much as I can of horizon2 before getting into another racing game
But I will be getting DriveClub was in the latest beta and had a blast
