Assassin's Creed Unity - Review Thread

Honestly, this could be a legitimate 5/10, but it's going to get a 2 to 3 point bump from a lot of publications. I think reviewers fear publishers. Hope I'm wrong (if it really deserves it).

Sorry to spoil your fun with a positive review, I know here on GAF I should not say anything positive about a Ubisoft title. But anyway, I actually enjoyed the game quite a lot, it has problems (especially the terrible terrible loading times) but damn it's absolutely breathtaking to look at and the gameplay is better than any other AC game before (I mean the core AC gameplay, not the naval stuff from BF of course). I played it on Xbox One and the framerate wasn't locked for sure (dipped to 25 when it got very busy), but it stayed playable at all times and there was no tearing.
Not perfect certainly, but I enjoyed almost every minute of it (outside of that bloody black loading screen...).
As usual, full text on the French version of the site, only the conclusion and + - in English, and many videos from both the X1 and PC version (though 30 fps as our PC guy is still dling the game):

On the up side

+ Paris, incredibly detailed and well used by the game
+ The lighting, nothing short of amazing.
+ Back to a European major city
+ Stealth finally works as it should
+ The missions are more open ended
+ 15 hours to finish the main mission, with a lot of secondary content
+ The rifts are a nice addition

On the down side

- The horrible loading times
- The unacceptable loading times
- Just a black loading screen, really?
- Framerate can become problematic from time to time
- We miss Jesper Kyd's ambient music
- Some animations are looking a bit old
- Lots of small visual bugs, a few more major one requiring mission restarts

Looks like a technical mess.

But if you take it as if you were playing it on a PS3/360, then I'll probably can take the positives. lol

Wait, so without the companion app you can't open treasure chests? Can you elaborate. I don't have a smartphone.

No, there are only some chests that can only be opened with the companion app. They don't hinder game progress or achievements or trophies though. They'll just permanently show up on your map and you'll never be able to get the goodies inside.

Is it crazy that I actually liked AC3? Maybe it's because I played it like 18 months after it came out so hype had died down, but man I don't get the insane hate that game gets.

It's actually sad to see gamers want a game to be bad. I don't even know if I have the mental aptitude required to make the leap into this dark side of gaming.

Disappointed in many gamers here.

Dead

well not really...yet
Lots of 7s

Expected.

It's a good game, but the technical issues cannot be ignored.

Ubisoft need to go in to overdrive for patching

8.8/10

Ubisoft set out to re-create the series with Assassin's Creed: Unity and they've managed it with flying colours.

A rich story with an impressive amount of content coupled with some of the best visuals on display thus far make Assassin's Creed: Unity a must buy for any fan of the series, or just the open-world genre in general.

It has its shortcoming, thought they're few and far between, enough so that they're almost negligible.

Hah, GAF really called it. Ugh.
