Assassin's Creed Unity - Review Thread

And why would I want them?
Any word on why Jim Sterling didn't review it regarding that tweet he sent out? That's what I'm really looking forward to reading lol

'Despite starting from such a well-established foundation, however, Unity does not feel finished. Technical hiccups abounded during my time with Ubisoft's trip through Revolution-era France – hiccups that ran the gamut from mundane and distracting to annoying and game-breaking.'

'Rapid descents along the faces of buildings would sometimes send me clipping through structures, leave me floating in mid-air, or drop me through the bottom of the world into a hellish abyss of white. NPCs appeared to float in mid-air while others wielded invisible weapons. Twice, Unity crashed entirely, requiring a full restart of the software. In one mission, restarting from a checkpoint inspired in protagonist Arno Dorian the philosophy of pacifism, as he refused to attack the soldiers cutting him to shreds - which is to say that although I had my weapon drawn, I could not target or attack any enemies, and I had to let myself die in order to try again.

Another Joystiq editor, playing on PS4, encountered similar bugs. On Xbox One however, these issues were exacerbated by a framerate with less structural integrity than the crumbling roofs of Paris. Whether I ran through the crowded streets or shambled along the rooftops, noticeable drops in framerate almost constantly distracted from the experience.'

That's quite a large chunk dedicated to performance, and the score reflects it. Excellent.

"Gamers want a game to be bad"? The fuck are you talking about? Some gamers want bad games to receive appropriately bad scores, that's what it is. And that's a good thing.

There were people wanting the game to get bad scores before they even played to game to know it is bad. Why do people play this game you know what I'm talking about.

yeah...those are really terrible scores...a real bomba game.

sigh

gaf blowing everything out of portion

It is a 'bomba' game if you created Black Flag and its successor fails in every single regard.

Ubisoft, with all their talk about how ''next-gen'' this game is, absolutely deserves these 6's and 7's.

I know we all like to rag on Kotaku, but I actually like how they "review" games now. One thing that really caught my eye was the "What I played" section. It's a nice addition.

(although i realize this probably isn't that new, since they changed to the yes and no thing a while ago)

Alex Navarro just said the worst thing he possibly could, hahaha.

"It reminds me of AC3 but with more technical problems."

WELP.

I don't know if I agree with that. It reminds me of AC2 but with more technical problems, honestly. It is much closer to the Ezio trilogy than the Kenway trilogy in terms of feel, design and story. The similarities are mainly technical failings, and ACU is much worse.

Shit, all the technical issues sound horrible. Will this wake Ubisoft up and make them realise the yearly releases aren't working.
