Listening to this BBC interview and I can't believe how entitled these Lizard Squad idiots sound. At least the interviewer is trying to shit on them when he can.

Attacks were stopped 14 hours ago apparently. XBL up as MS were able to fix their DNS servers whilst Sony wasn't which is why PSN is still down.

Not according to a member of Lizard Squad. He has been saying he has been hitting PSN, but now moved back to Xbox.

I will admit, I am a bit jelly of the XBone folks right about now.
Sony doesn't seem as agile as Microsoft in this case (or Sony is getting attacked more).

It's probably a case of Sony being an easier target because of the smaller infrastructure. MS have their Azure network and from my limited understanding of DDOS attacks, traffic can be diverted to servers that are waiting in the wings. It's just that this time LS came at it hard, obviously determined to set a baseline of attack on what was needed to bring them down. MS probably have more capacity to route excess traffic but at some point they were overloaded. Sony just doesn't have as many servers so their ability to respond is lessened, hence easier to be taken down.

That we are aware of. It is not uncommon for a group to use a DDoS as a smokescreen to hide actual intrusion. We can't completely discount the possibility that yesterday's DDoS was done for exactly that reason. We don't have evidence to prove or disprove it.

Lizard Squad aren't hackers. All they can do is ddos. Unless you think they ddos to cover for someone else

Okay, you're experts and know the entire scope of what is and has happened? Let's hope the people in charge are more prudent and actually investigate.

Thanks, Jest.
There is absolutely no evidence of anything other than a DDoS.

Actually, it's probably ISIS. Because I think it could be and stuff.

I can't start any of my digital games, I'm signed in&online but it still says I need to be online and sign in. Even when they start, a new error appears stating I need to be online.

Yeah, it's happening to me too. Some people on the Xbox.com Support Forums are also having the same issue. It sucks.

Live is just better. Sony really screwed the pooch again here and hasn't learned from their mistakes as usual. Like Nintendo, Sony's circling the drain because of their shitty decisions.

I told everyone to get an Xbox and they didn't listen.

Oh my more golden console warrior posts.. Sony is circling in the drain sure bud, whatever you say. At least read the OP before spewing nonsense. Live is down for many again now too, i guess MS is circling the drains?

Did you even read the first page ?

three months ago I would have told you the internet should not be regulated and ISPs should not tier their connections and limit what we can do with it. After today, I feel like we as a free market ruined the beauty of the internet and now it HAS to be regulated by the government just so we can use it.

This is not the thread for this.

bish gets all the credit :)
Jesus Christ, these idiots... The interviewer might not be very tech savvy, but he can sure call these dumbasses what they are.

Its a DDOS attack. nothing is hacked as stated many times in this thread.

In the computer security context, a hacker is someone who seeks and exploits weaknesses in a computer system or computer network. - Wikipedia.

Whether or not you trust Wikipedia, this is a common way of thinking about hackers/hacking. A DDoS attack is definitely hacking by such a definition.

I got TLOU as a download code when I bought my PS4. Wanted to play it but can't since I'm not signed into PSN?

So glad I buy almost everything else on disc. It would be a nice late Christmas present if these lizard clowns got caught and were given a hefty punishment.

Listening to the interview now, did that guy seriously just suggest he gained his "hacking" chops by not "going out and partying" like the other cool kids? He sounds like such a cunt.

I think from this whole story everyone looses.

We are here to "celebrate" this shit instead to ignore this problem, because the desire of the people behind this attack is only a desire of popularity. Nothing else.

Sony (much more than MS) is in serious trouble because without any doubt, their online infrastructure is pretty weak. The hacking affair that Sony faced in 2011 just caused an outage of 23 days.
I know they are working hard at Sony to bring PSN back as soon as possible, but the problem will persist if they do not do something (I know, I know, it's hard to contain the Ddos attacks) because never mind that we are unable to play today, but what happens if another bunch of people wants to "have fun" putting down PSN again in the next (for example) three weeks?
Without any warranty for the future, Sony will greatly suffer for this moment, because I already have a bunch of friends who are thinking of buying for the XBone the next games that require to be played online (games like Evolve for example).
I mean, it's understandable ... They want to game, not spend 2 days posting on tweeter, NeoGaf, Reddit, etc
