I can't find an up to date discussion thread on the game. NOA are tweeting new details on the main playable characters of the game. The first one is of Henry Fleming and his weapon details.

Kinda need to give us a power range there, Nintendo.

However, I think we can rest assured knowing that they're pretty powerful given that they're EXTREMELY PATRIOTIC.

The lack of hype for this game is astounding. I mean, this is a new strategy RPG with third-person shooter elements from the team that brought us Advance Wars and Fire Emblem. And the bullets are extremely patriotic. Come on.

This. Not sure if poor marketing or just lack of interest... but I fear this will sell really poorly ;_;.

This falls right in with what I want on my 3DS.

It's especially bizarre after everyone lost their mind over how great XCOM was and then again after the reception of FE: Awakening.

Now you mix the two and throw a unique art style on there and suddenly it gets treated like the worst filth.

I guess everyone is based off of animals. I mean, Henry looks like a monkey, specifically the Monkey King. Tigerlily has a hawk-like look, and John Henry has a bull thing going on. There's also a giant lion. Since the lead designer for this is also someone who was on the design team for Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn, I can only assume they just have a thing for animals.

I think the art design, name, and shown footage haven't been anything to build hype. I like the 2.5D look, but the character designs aren't too great.

Also, the gameplay looks a bit less refined than stuff like Valkyria Chronicles and XCOM: EU/EW, but that might just be the crappy selection of gameplay videos we've seen.

As I recall, the unique art style was a sticking point for some people during the unveiling at E3. But I agree that this game deserves a more prominent place in the 2015 hype threads. We're talking about one of the most reliable developers out there delivering a new IP based on gameplay concepts people already love.

I guess I can somewhat understand.
I like Fire Emblem and Advance Wars but codename Steam doesn't do much for me so far.

A good demo should help this game's reception massively. Awakening's in-game graphics look like complete butt, but that still didn't stop people from enjoying the demo and anticipating the game, at least.

So are some characters incapable of Overwatch?

Did we know that?

Looks more like it's weapon based more then character based.

As for hype we really don't know much about the game other then the two trailers they put out. They haven't really talked about it. They've pushed Splatoon significantly more by comparison.

It's hard to get excited for games with shooter elements on 3DS period. Hopefully the nubbin will help but I'm not a fan of using a stylus on the touch screen to aim.

Well of course! It's a new Nintendo IP so no one will pay attention and buy it, and then people will whine about no new IPs a few months after its release!

Joking aside...I dunno, I don't think I'm particularly interested in it. Certainly seems interesting but probably something I'd put on a backlog and get when there's a sale. Due to how much money i'm spending a year now on games, I end up having to wait for a lot of sales for things....

Games looking great, and I love the art style/conceit. Fun fact: Henry Fleming is the protagonist in The Red Badge of Courage. It seems most characters are either literature icons or inspired by them.

Honestly this looks much more appealing to me personally than either Advanced Wars or Fire Emblem.

Love the gameplay and the art style. This is a game where American historical pop cultural figures team up with President Lincoln to fighter an alien invasion to save the Queen.

I need this game.

I think I recall the original E3 Round-table reveal mentioning the armor being themed around animals?

Like Tom is themed on a fox too I think.

Do we even know whether the game will feature location-based damage, actual bullet trajectory instead of RNGs, etc? People keep mentioning the aiming as a point of contention but it doesn't sound like the game will even require precise aiming to begin with, so I'm not sure why they don't just use z-targeting to cycle through units or something.

The artstyle looks bad as far as I'm concerned.
It screams "3rd party shovelware" and yet its a brand new IS title ;_;

The artstyle is awful.
Plus I rather have another fire emblem than this.

Man, I'm super excited for this! I almost always love what happens when Japanese devs/writers deal with more Western sources of inspiration, so this is right up my alley. Plus, love Intelligent Systems. Hopefully I'll have a 3DS by the time this comes out!

This game has cult hit written all over it. I think the mix of a divisive art style and gameplay that is just complicated enough to turn on more casual rpg/srpg gamers have severely limited this game's potential. I'm still not sold but it has my attention.

I'm sure the gameplay will be great, but the design and setting feels uninspired and is like a mishmash of random elements.

I mean, an Abraham Lincoln led squad with squad members inspired by characters from literary classics sounds great... To whom exactly after the first few minutes?

Well I hope the game will still surprise me in those areas because I'll still get it since it's an IntSys srpg, but I'm not sure where they're going with the characters and story. Will it all just seem like a poor joke?

I mean

Anybody who read League of Extraordinary Gentlemen for one

not that I'm expecting anything from the plot or characters, don't be crazy, but let's not act like "historical/literary super team" is something that is inherently uninteresting

I wonder if this game would have a greater following if it was done in the same style as Awakening.
I will say that's a big part... I mean the graphics in Awakening are nowhere near as good as some of the trailers I seen from this game and all the other aspects like gameplay, music, plot and setting looks very good.

I love Fire Emblem and never played an Advance Wars game but I hope this becomes like a third franchise for Intelligent Systems since the gameplay looks so much fun, hell the multiplayer could be a time waster for me and my brother =D

Maybe it is a workable concept, but the characters need to interact well with one another and so far there's little sign of that given the information so far and the choice of characters.

They talked plenty at E3 where they played through multiple missions. Then they let press have hands on which also produced new footage. We know a lot about how the game plays. Plus we know about the premise, characters. People just can't get over the non-anime art style and the fact that this is no carbon copy FE or AW and because they haven't played XCOM and thus don't get how amazing this looks.

This game really needs a demo. Moreso than a dedicated Director anything. People need to see this on their actual 3DS screen. Playing is believing.
