I haven't seen many people bring up the "You Are Slave, Want Emancipation?" line from the Persona 5 reveal trailer in this thread. I think it's a given at this point that the line's from the Phantom, aka the main character. Probably relates to the main characters' motivation which consists of some kind of liberation from the shackles of society or a higher power.

The only takeaway from the Gametrailers analysis was this.
Like what if Igor and the Velvet Room are actually antagonists now.

the thread is about this now

All Out Attack to counter the cuteness!

So planning ahead and not wanting to deal with Atlus and its EU bullshit.

What is the best site for importing games from the US to the EU? The sites I use to use went out of business.

Obviously digitally over PSN is a option but Atlus normally cram some decent extras into their boxes and I would want to go that road if I could.

OK I hate to sound like a troll here, but I gotta ask:

Can we expect a major graphics bump for the PS4 version?

The gameplay graphics in that trailer look straight outta PS3, which is a HELL of a let down.

I was expecting AT LEAST a noticable bump in graphics for the PS4 version.

I assume this footage is PS3 and maybe we haven't seen the PS4 version yet. Would that be correct?

Persona games aren't really known for their graphical prowess , I'd be happy with the 1080p60fps on the PS4 version

Well that reveal was more of a teaser, and closely ties in with the released Famitsu interview with Hashino excerpts from earlier today that expanded on the game's themes more. Was more likely to just be speculation fuel rather than the Phantom's proclamations. :p

I've played TWEWY. It's one of my favorite games of all time. But this:

...Handily beats out anything from that game, or most games ever.

Persona is one of the very very few games where I still feel like I'm playing the game when I'm in menus. I could probably count them on one hand.

Also if you are 'concerned' about the visuals, you are suffering from yet another latest trend, which is taking youtube streaming vids as representative of the game.
I can bet you anything, that even though naturally it wont be a graphical showcase, the game in general and especially the PS4 version on 1080p will be so crisp you'll burst into tears.

You can jump straight in, since the games aren't directly connected with each other, plot wise. The previous games all seem to take place in the same universe, and P3 and P4 have crossovers. But P3 and P4 are excellent games, so if you get a chance to play them, I think you should. The plot and characters are pretty cool. You can at least learn the battle mechanics, which I'm pretty sure won't change too drastically in P5.

The only thing I'm afraid of regarding these menus, is that they'll spoil me so much that they'll make bland and static menus from other games look really disappointing in comparison...

I've only played P4G and I really liked it (I'm still going through it), well I've also played P4A/U but that's because I love fighting games, it being a Persona 4 spin-off was just a bonus.
I'd totally recommend playing P4G if you have access to it.

Most people will definitely (and correctly) recommend you should try out the other games, namely Persona 4 Golden and Persona 3 FES.

Keep in mind they are lengthy games to play through your first go (60+ hours), so if you are time sensitive about your play time, keep that in mind.

Since P4, this series has really blown up. It'd be a shame Atlus doesn't go out of its way to court female players considering the potential this game has to really bring Persona into the mainstream, so I wonder how the game's social links (specifically romance) will differ from previous entries.

I wonder how much of it has been the Giant Bomb Persona 4 Endurance Run. I got into Persona with P2: Eternal Punishment, and later Persona 3: FES. But I think a lot of people were like Jeff and Vinny and didn't have any prior experience with the series. So maybe those types of gamers watched the Endurance Run enjoyed it and spread the word to other non-SMT/Persona fans?

Until they add a female protag I think their options are rather pigeonholed to do much further. I'm surprised they haven't for this considering the female interest in the series seems huge to me. AND because the main protags of these games are rather arbiters for the player, they aren't really a distinct character. Going so far as not even giving them names.

Yeah many of my friends played P4 as their first SMT related game and while they loved it, they were sorely disappointed in a few things: the tabula rasa main character, the gay stereotyping and no gay relationships.

I think there are things in the established fiction preventing Igor from being a villain outright, but I do think that to start, that line from the very first teaser stands for the MC as well. Looking at the scene with him in that prison outfit, I wouldn't be surprised if Igors contract is what pushes him into becoming the Phantom, setting everything off.

Hashino did say something unexpected happens to them though...

I think it's a safe bet now that Potter-kun puts on a very dull show/mask while he's in the regular day, and the glasses kind of symbolize this, and then his true... PERSONA comes out when he's a thief/vigilante

Well, if you're putting it that way, his Persona would actually be the meek person he presents himself as in public, while his true self would be the confident, assertive person he presents himself as, as the Phantom. It'd go in line with the theme of freedom, and how the characters are free to act as they truly want when they don their masks.

Hopefully we get to see the rest of the party members soon, unless it has been confirmed somewhere that there's only 4...? Surely not, right?

One thing's for sure though, I am not gonna use that cat thing in battle; not really fond of using mascot characters in battles.

The Protagonist is Clark Kent.

I always found that funny with Clark Kent. How putting on glasses and combing your hair differently hides the fact you're a buff handsome motherfucker is beyond me

I can't edit the comment now without people knowing, LET ME HAVE THIS BAD JOKE.

What if he can Galactic Punt things like Chie? Also, I wonder if the cat has an alt costume like Koro's angel wing shirt or a Teddie costume.

To be fair, the P3 and P4 characters both have canon names now.

Yu Narukami of P4 and Makoto Yūki of P3.

I feel they do no gender for P4 or P5 is that, yeah, their is choice- but if they want to do any spin off's they need to canonize the main character a bit.

Like if P4 had a male and female protag and then Arena came out with only the male character, people who played the female would be annoyed.

There has been no confirmation or deconfirmations, but for now there's another character in the trailer than dons a fox/tanuki mask who we don't know about. Do with that what you will.

What if the cat learns Debilitate or War Cry? You need that shit.

Seems like a small investment on their part. Mass Effect seems to do it just fine.

Mass Effect also never mentions any specifics of Shepard in EU material as far as I know.

cause what matters most is the EU, not the main games...

The girls I know who played this loved P3P for the female protag. They couldn't get enough of the dating sim stuff. Then P4 was a bit cold in the water for them.

Where all the Guys I know seem to prefer P4.

I think that is saying something. Lord knows the industry loves focus testing, and this should give them a clue that a female protag option would be a big plus for 50% of the population.

They're more like fill in names than canon names. Atlus still refers to them generally as "protagonist" unless a spinoff like the movies or the fighting game requires a name. But the overall intention is that they have no defined name.

That was the reaction of a few of my friends as well. If that search of the PS2 Persona 4 files is true/accurate and Yosuke was really going to be a romance option, it's more hopeful that gay relationships will be in P5 if they were considering it for P4.

I just gave the example of the EU. If they wanted to say have a cross-over little thing between P5 and P4, they have to canonize stuff about P4. I have no doubt if P5 does good, there will be an Arena 3 with the casts of both P3, 4, and 5. Not sure they want to spend time making gender a choice just to make one void in a future game.

It would be like when the new Mass Effect comes out, you see Shepard (I know they won't but not the point), and it's Male Shepard because no data transfer. People would be up in arms cause that mean's FemShep isn't "canon."

Yeah, sorry to say but I love my canon.

I didn't mind the tabula rasa main character. But at the same time you don't really feel you can be yourself in the game. The PC is too restrained.

It seems this P5 protag is nothing of the sorts though, which is pretty exciting.

Great, they can just canonize one of the characters. I hardly think that is an unreasonable concession. Games do that all the time with branching narratives.

Going back to the thread, I still think it's weird how on the map you see one enemy (that looks like a shadow), but in-battle you're just fighting the Personas like Pyro Jack and stuff.
I know, right? They're clearly battling a Sandman and a Jack Frost Persona/Demon, but on the field they don't look like Personas/Demons at all.

Is that knight enemy on the map a Persona (or demon in the SMT series)? I honestly don't remember.
It looks like a shadow in my opinion, because it's wearing a mask like many of the shadow enemies.

I see Igor is still there.
His VA died so they have found a replacement rather than drop the character.

Also, is this thread some sort of record for posts in a day or the posting rate.
