I see Igor is still there.
His VA died so they have found a replacement rather than drop the character.

Also, is this thread some sort of record for posts in a day or the posting rate.

this is not a happy thread anymore

He's a pretty swell guy in my books anyway.
Man, I can't stop watching this trailer. I love superhero games and now we're getting a Persona-style one? And they're finally doing something interesting with the gameplay for the actual dungeons! Plus everything is full of Persona's stylized charm, it reminds me why I can't call P3P the definitive version of P3 but this cranks everything up to 11. I mean... dem menus man, look at dem menus.

What if he can Galactic Punt things like Chie? Also, I wonder if the cat has an alt costume like Koro's angel wing shirt or a Teddie costume.

There has been no confirmation or deconfirmations, but for now there's another character in the trailer than dons a fox/tanuki mask who we don't know about. Do with that what you will.

What if the cat learns Debilitate or War Cry? You need that shit.

Well, I am sure there will be more than just 3 persons and a mascot cat. Persona 3 and 4 has more than that, so no reason to believe there will be only 3 + mascot this time.

Meh, even if the cat turns out to learn stuff like Debilitate or War Cry, I am sure I can manage without it. Never a fan of using mascot character; I rarely used Ken in P3/P3FES/P3P or Teddie back in P4/P4G anyways.

Time to point out the obvious stuff that's probably been brought up a hundred times and I didn't notice, the guys at IGN didn't know what it was but yeah, this guy sells equipment apparently.

Above you can read, from top to bottom:

  • Assassin Knife
  • Handgun
  • Dark Inner
  • Fashion Glass
I'm guessing those are: Main Weapon, Secondary Weapon, Armor (Protector according to the video) and Accessory. I can't read many Kanjis but I see the Kanjis for the main weapon and secondary weapon are the same but one.

I found it weird that the IGN guys didn't notice that this screen also gives you the name of the Protagonist's Persona.

I may be ultra LTTP on this, but I remember seeing some people expressing doubt at the translation indicating that the game is in fact in a juvenile detention center so I just wanted to say that the phrase 「学園ジュブナイル」 taken from here, pretty much literally 学園 "campus" and ジュブナイル "juvenile". Juvenile is literally juvenile written in katakana, a loanword. They intended to evoke the meaning of that English word. Based on that there is absolutely no way that there's some funky mistranslation going on, it's a juvenile detention center, and it's very common for anyone under 20 in Japan to go there after sentencing.

Basically, if anyone was dubious of this translation, there's no reason to be. Again, probably LTTP but I just wanted to dispel any doubt.

Who? I don't believe such a character existed in Persona 3; otherwise I would have used him in my party a few times.

Oh, thanks for the update! But one of the menus showed that the Protagonist is wearing 秀尽学園高校制服:冬. The bolded is Japanese for "high school uniform," which made me think that they're in high school. Maybe the protagonist used to be in juvenile detention for a short time and then entered Shuujin Academy/High School (秀尽学園).

This thread is going fast, man, it's impossible to catch up.

Glad to see so many Persona fans and so many people who didn't play the series before and now are excited for this. That is the true purpose of trailers, to reel newcomers and old fans alike. I'm getting the vibes this game is going to sell like crazy.

Huh, the characters are actually in a juvenile detention center? I thought they were in a normal high school, until now, despite the confusion.

It's been a long day ever since this trailer hit, think I'm gonna suspend the speculative mind set for now.

I will say that despite being a fan of the series, I genuinely think this was a well done trailer. You got a good grasp on the themes, personality, and gameplay, as well as just the right amount of ambiguity to get people talking/speculating.

Hoping our next taste of the game isn't with the PV disc bundled with P4D but much sooner!

A high school for delinquents would make sense. That's something I'd be real interested in hearing about; I hope it's part of the info we get next week.

You better be glad this is on PS4, because there's no way I'd let you borrow my PS3 for this shit. HYPE

Edit: sorry for double post. Thread not moving fast enough for late comer hype.

lol I expected as much. Prepare for many weekends of us not communicating as each plays this in their respective homes. We could schedule a quick meet-up for food. Then back to man caving.

do those exist in japan, they seem to be a prominent trope

I really never hear about them in the US.

But I don't hear about schools for delinquents. But I know that idea is used in battle royale.

edit: ah ok

Still, you'd think that there are probably schools for students who drop out to attend.

A manga called oresama teacher actually deals with this topic, but it is pretty far removed from reality.

The teacher throws a book at protag because he's staring out the window. I guess that I can't make my character into a mega nerd and have him pass all his tests with straight A's lol.
