New Nintendo 3DS & New Nintendo 3DS XL Launch Thread

The Target near my apartment was sold out of all units by 8:45.

I should have woken up earlier and waited out front.

Oh well, I'll get one at the next shipment.

Got one, baby.

2015-02-1308.22.09wpuec.jpg

:( I want.

I have the ALBW XL as well. I'm upgrading but only because I was able to snag the MM New XL. I'm selling my ALBW XL to a friend that is a huge Zelda fan.

I'm upgrading too. I didn't snag an MM one, but I didn't want one that badly. I actually want a regular edition N3DS XL, because I tend to be overly careful with special editions. I want to have a portable that I can treat as such (which means It'll likely get banged up here and there).

But I'm NOT getting rid of my ALBW 3DS XL. It looks gorgeous, and ALBW is (and will likely remain) my overall favorite game on that system.

Does the right analogue nipple function as a CPP in games that has previously supported it?

LMAO... I haven't seen it being referred to as such until now. Almost made me spill my coffee. Thanks for the morning laugh! :)

(Sorry if I can't answer your question)

Small "horror" story at the local target I stopped by this morning. I walked up about 30 minutes prior to the store opening and there was probably 8 people in line. The employee had just handed out 5 tickets for "guaranteed" systems.

Everyone assumed it was for the Majora's Mask edition. I decided to wait around to get a regular one for my son, as I have a MM one on the way for myself. Doors open and he walks everyone back. They call the folks up with the tickets and starts to sell them the regular New 3DS. People started getting crazy, he said they didn't receive any MM versions and the tickets were guarantees for the regular ones they had.

Talk about some serious anger! I walked up and bought a regular black one and walked out while the tickets folks were still all in shock and angered.

I felt bad for the one couple that had been there since 4am or so.

Called Nintendo to get the system transfer—from a system I don't have anymore to my new 3DS XL—going and while they were really helpful and the queue wasn't too long, it's gonna take about 24-48 hours for the data transfer department to complete the transfer.

I don't really wanna touch my system yet as I don't wanna risk anything, but damn if this isn't snail's pace in today's age. I work almost all day today and tomorrow anyways, so it's not that big a deal, but I wish it would go by sooner rather than later. Oh well.

I am thinking about picking up Super Street Fighter IV for $20 to go along with my new N3DSXL. I forgot that they put it on the eshop.

It will be like the 3DS launch all over again.

I'm picking mine up today from Gamestop, taking it home and doing the whole system transfer process, and then taking my old 3DS XL back tomorrow to do the trade-in. It's like an all weekend event.

Just came from Nintendo World. Got there a few minutes before opening and there was a pretty decent line of about 15-20 already. They finally opened the doors and started letting people in. The line moved pretty well, and it took me about 20 minutes or so to get to the register.

Got my black system, charger and a standard copy of MM and they gave me a MM pin too. They were out of LE systems, but they still had LE copies of the game. The line was going up the stairs when I left too. Pretty good experience overall.

EB Canada was questionable as always.

- Line Pilons but no line
- Usual terrible warranty speech
- Please buy our $17 Nyko charger!

System is great but when I tip it left and right something is clearly sliding around. Hopefully rectified once I pop open the back to install the microSD?

I'm tired of waiting for Best Buy. They suck at release day shipments. I just ordered one in-store and I'll just return the other.

My god that's sexy

It is. It's got a really nice embossed texture as well. Now I have to decide if I want more plates and which ones. I'm partial to the Monster Hunter plates.

Damn that is a sweet cover plate. Too bad I live in the US. I'm super jelly. :(

It's a pity NOA aren't releasing the small N3DS. I would suggest it's maybe logistics concerns but then they could at least sell it in the Nintendo World Store or something.

I mentioned this in my impressions thread - http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=990635&highlight=

It came as a nice little surprise to me, hadn't heard anyone mentioning the difference in the screens. It's just a lot nicer to use. The speakers are significantly better for sure, much louder and clearer. Super happy with my N3DS.

Yeah, I'm really impressed with the N3DS. It's the only 3DS I would describe as sleek. I would say I hope the successor is similar but we went from DSi to OG 3DS...

I was saving so much money on amazon.fr (I'm in the UK) that I smugly upgraded delivery to get it today and now it's stranded in Leipzig. This is what I get.

Ugh playing MH4 on this stupid, old, obsolete XL is a chore.

how do you find out where it is? tracking info on amazon.fr seems limited.

My dock and game turned up from amazon UK, but I'm not playing on the old XL anymore so it'll have to wait.

Lol Nintendo.

I laughed when I heard we got two in.

Woke up to hear the horror stories of failing to get a n3DS. Seems like Nintendo stocked/underestimated this the same way as Amiibos just to be 1:1 with Supply and Demand for bigger profit. It makes me relieved that mine was an online pre-order, but pre-orders should seriously not be a necessity/requirement to get a regular edition of a system.

Yup, the ZR and ZL buttons function the CPP's shoulder buttons too.

There are a bunch of retailers near my house. I work until 4:30 so I really, really hope I can find a New 3DS sitting on a shelf somewhere today.

Well, back to Plan A.
Just called my local GameStop, and they DO NOT have the capability of doing the system transfer in store. So I do have to take it home and do it, which the only positive I can take out of it is I guess it is a good thing since I forgot my 00 Screwdriver.
The other slightly annoying thing is to get the $100 trade in credit, I HAVE TO go back today. They cannot do it tomorrow.

Nintendo really has to get their shit together with accounts. This is ultimately all on them.

A question for those in the UK.

Your Nintendo Online store allows you to order Amiboos, and actual Nintendo Hardware direct from Nintendo?

The only hardware available in the US online store seems to refurbs and forget about amiboos altogether.

I ended up stopping by Target on the way to work this morning just as they opened. There were a few people waiting outside. When I went in they had a bunch of black and red units but also one Zelda. I didn't want it, but figured I might as well since it's an LE. I asked for it and then heard an audible "awww" from a young kid behind me when he heard it was the last one. I let him have it and just got black as I planned. Trying to get Nintendo support on the phone to initiate a user ID transfer to the new serial number is a pain in the ass.

Is the screen any better in terms of color quality?

No. It's the same screens as before. My initial impression is that the screen is now yellower/warmer than the 3DS I had prior. Not a fan of that. I prefer the cooler/bluer screens Nintendo sometimes uses.

Got home yesterday and my boyfriend was waiting for me with an N3DSXL just for me. Beyond happy! This is my first 3DS so I'm still learning the ropes with the system. Already have Pokemon X, Bravely Default and Theatrhythm Curtain Call all waiting to be played, also gifts from him. I'm a lucky, lucky gal!

Today I got myself a case and it brought a couple of screen protectors with it. I've been debating whether or not to use protectors, at least on the bottom screen. I'm a little afraid of playing Theatrhythm on and unprotected screen. What are your thoughts, GAF? Should I put the screen protector on or not? What are the pros and cons?

Yeah, the store isn't actually run by Nintendo. It's run by a company called The Hut who have a few online retailers. They tend to get all the special/limited edition versions of games as well.

I got my N3DS from there(a day early!) and got a giant ass Mario statue in the bundle. It can hold the 3DS in his hands.

No wi-fi in store? chocking (it's 2015 and it's Gamestop)

Edit : well maybe it's because it's Gamestop that they don't have wi-fi lol

Just a heads up to people trying to get a New 3DS In Store, although it is not the collectors edition, the Best Buy website is currently listing the Black Model as available for In Store pickup, today.

Just thought a few people might be interested in knowing that it appears the black model is still available at some Best Buy stores.

Unless you intend to take a knife to the screen, there's no need for a screen protector. I've owned every iteration of DS and 3DS and never once had a problem, and that includes letting my daughter play with them. Only reason to do it is peace of mind.

Got my shipping confirmation from Gamestop. Should get my MM XL on Wednesday. In the mean time will likely go ahead and buy that "new" Red XL for my wife.

Showed up at 7:55 to my local Target (opening at 8) and got a MM LE, there were a few folks in like (apparently some had been there since 1:30 am, others since 3:30 am). They said they only had 5.

Seriously it is a joke. I just cannot comprehend how it is possible, but as you said, it is because they are GameStop. No doubt.
I actually checked my local BestBuy as I would have to think they have WiFi, and if they did not there is a Book store that does, but they are only offering $29 Trade In for the 3DS XL. I actually have to go there first because I preordered MM and MH4 because of my GCU memberhsip.
There is a McDonalds like a block away from the GameStop, I may just go set up shop there like a true loser. LOL

How I wish the GameStop that was less than .25 miles away from my house did not close down. It just had the worst location known to man, and it was GameStop.

FYI, to save people some time:

You can swap the 4GB microSD card with your higher capacity card before initiating the transfer. Simply answer that the system hasn't used any other SD card and move the files from your source 3DS to the target microSD when prompted after the license transfer completes.

The transfer process really sucked but everything is 100% there.
