I want to comment on that so bad. But I won't!

Please do! I seriously fail to see what is realistic in the early builds in terms of colour palette.

It'd be a lot more compelling if it was a frame-to-frame comparison, insteada of vaguely similar shots.

But, really, it's like no one understands how pre-release footage and optimisation works. This isn't a Dark Souls 2 case where, suddenly, huge elements of the visual appearance changed by release, in spite of (pretty much?) all pre-release footage. It's like complaining that the Wild Hunt leader's armor got downgraded from its first appearance, simply because it looks different now.

So true. I almost feel like developers should just stop showing footage of games until they go gold. This whole downgrade mentality has gotten way out of hand.

Basically every major game these days has some people screaming "downgrade". And most of the time it's all because of time of day differences between media or because an artist decided to change the look of something. Any change is perceived by some people to be a downgrade.

It's kind of perplexing the way some people equate desaturated colors with "good graphics" isn't it?

Granted, the older shot is a direct feed official screenshot and the bottom one is from a crappy compressed youtube video, but I don't see what's so great or superior about the older look.

Again, what a lot of people miss (but don't realize) is the sharpening. The whole game just seems to have a softer look to it now, and the color balance has been adjusted since the old screenshots.

Looking at those old screenshots tells me the game has pretty much always maintained the same quality of assets. I've always been amazed at this shot in particular. It damn near looks like concept art, but you can definitely tell it's the same assets we're seeing now, just with a ridiculous level of IQ on top. Maybe the tree LOD is better than what we've seen recently. You also have to realize CDProjekt RED probably cherry picked the hell out of the old screenshots. After the game launches I'm sure we'll have people posting art shots that look as good as the 2014 images.

Frankly I think the bottom shot looks even better. I mean look at the monsters skin and the dof look. I love that. In all honesty PPL might be able to get those kinds of look by desaturating their monitor output and by adjusting the gamma settings.

I am seriously dying here... It's like my body and mind can't find the will to do anything but play this game, and so while the time slowly ticks away to release I cannot focus on anything but this game. I don't want to go into it feeling that way, my hype and expectations for the game are just TOO high. This is the reason I don't usually follow things until they release but damn I couldn't help it here, it's the sequel to my favourite game of all time.

That's it. I'm playing witcher 2 again.

Damn I can't wait to play this game. I have powerful pc and I plan on playing at 1440p, 60fps. First thing I will do is play at max setting then go from there. I hate motion blur so that will be the first thing I turn off then shadows. Ugh I can't wait!

As uncompressed as it gets, from new trailer. Shots are from GamerSyde download.

The self-shadowed foliage?

If I didn't like the combat in Witcher 2, Is it pointless to get Witcher 3?

Combat has been redesigned for TW3 and what we have seen looks a lot better in every way, but we won't truly know if it's truly better before we get to play. Look up some combat from e.g. Gophers videos.

Older foliage is non-shadow casting sprite images as well. Those shadows you are seeing is just AO and overly sharpened edges turning to black.

I am curious as to why they are not using those sprites anymore. They cant be much more intensive than what they are using now

For one thing they will suffer far less aliasing than very thin detailed textures. I have no idea what kind of AA they're using but I think that just about anything except temporal solutions wouldn't have very good results.

There is also the fact that this game is utterly stuffed with foliage. From what I've seen in GTA V, for example, the frame rate tanks in very grassy and foliage heavy areas.

Older shots have crazy sharpening that pretty much ruins them. But the foliage looks much better in that graphical framework then what we have now.

The more i have looked at it I think the foliage is where my issue with the graphics is coming from. It just looks off to me now. I almost go so far as to say looks bad in a lot of shots. Then again the GIF posted above me looks really good.

That and I liked the color palette of the older build. It fit the world better. More GoT then LOTR.

looked like someone just cranked the shit out of the colors and contrast.....fucking hurts my eyes.

It tanks when the settings are turned up to ultra, because that's when grass is completely self-shadowed (and even thicker). But it's nice to have those kinds of options on PC. People can just turn the settings down if it's hitting performance too hard.

Thats my feelings. Plus it allows me to choose certain high end options that are particularly important to me and leave off the less important ones.

I wish CDPR had just left all the features and bells and whistles from the original build in the game. The Witcher 2 was pretty tough on even the best rigs if I remember. I like those games like Crysis and Witcher 2 that push the envelope graphically and allow me to re-visit them a couple years later with an upgraded rig and almost experience a new game.

Which is kinda interesting as apparently only copies out there are PS4 copies and require special unit of PS4 so it can be played. Will be interesting to see how many reviews we actually see on 12th.

Is that still the case? Kinda strange that they wouldn't have sent out the other versions by now. Particularly the PC build since that is the "lead" platform.

I don't see any self-shadowed foliage in that shot, except for the trees in the upper right part of the frame. The grass isn't self-shadowed in either version.

But the game does have self-shadowing tree and shrub foliage.

Is that from the gameplay trailer? Looks fantastic.

whats the difference with a household ps4? im guessing the same?

The hardware and everything is exactly the same. I believe the only difference is that debug units can read data even if its missing whatever security measures PS4 disc usually require.

And they cannot read Retail Disks!

At least, those at my job cannot.
