Well, I consider it to be pretty close to 999 in terms of its structure, with multiple endings based on your choices (which tend to cut things short and leave the main mystery unsolved), and then a relatively hard-to-get true ending which wraps everything up, though I would have to agree that Steins;Gate leaves fewer loose ends for sure.

there's very little gameplay. you're basically reading the entire game and enjoying the VO/music. the game has some parts where what you decide can change the route of the game. it's a slow burn but the story is pretty amazing. one of the best sci-fi stories, imo.

I was about to preorder but then I realized I still don't know which version to get. I think visual novels are great on handhelds, so probably Vita... unless there's something wrong/bad about that version.

The only thing that I can see being an issue is Audio quality like the PSP port, but I imagine you can check up on YouTube or something to see if it's acceptable.

What I'd like to know is if they fixed the skip function, on pc you had to wait until the transition to the next character portrait was over before the text actually skipped. It was pretty annoying.

just curious, is the console localization by a different team? I hated that JAST altered brand names for some stuff like Dr. Pepper to something else.

Man, was hoping there was a NA Vita release date.

After wrapping up DR1+2 the past few months, I need my VN fix. I gave Ace Attorney a try but it just wasn't doing it for me.

I'll just say that JAST changed Dr Pepper upon official request (and were provided with a new image for it). I don't want to completely spoil it.

I don't know why, but for some reason, if you just change the subtitles/text, it's completely fine despite the fact characters can still say the original names. Namco somehow did this a lot with Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle. You could CLEARLY hear the original names (a bunch of which were based on music references), despite the fact subtitles would be like "Nooo, he didn't say "Red Hot Chili Peppers", he said...."CHILI PEPPERS"! YEAH!" or one of my favorites, a character shouts "STICKY FINGERS!!" but subtitles say "Zipper Man".

Somehow it comes down to the script being the official text I think. So "Dr." instead of "Dk." is clearly a slip of the tongue and not what they really meant! Wink wink!

what gender pronoun do I use for Rukako?

And "Rukako" isn't his full name, that's just the alternate timeline Ruka.

I'd say use "he". Unless I'm misremembering, in the game there's no instance of Ruka asking to be addressed as a female and everyone is treating him like a male (well, kinda, you know what I mean) so "he/she" is kinda ambiguous to a new player considering that he actually becomes a "she" later in the game.

Yup, spoiled it.
Anyways, mainly I don't want people to think that I'm somehow being insensitive to gender issues. But as far as I remember, Ruka refers to himself as "boku" which is a male term. I think it's fair to use the term "he" at least for the initial character portraits. I just wanted to get some other feedback.

I agree. At any rate, I'm personally of the belief that
Luka only wants to be a girl because he wants to be able to love Okabe, not because he 'identifies as female' or anything like our definition of trans.

My feeling was something along those line too.
He says "he wishes he was born a girl," on a few occasions, but you're right in that he never really talks about feeling like he identifies as a female. There's probably something about traditional gender roles, sexuality and nuclear family pairings in there.

There are no English voiceovers. Which is kind of understandable, given there are probably at least a dozen hours worth of spoken dialogue.

Yeah, I was just looking up the banana scene in the PC version and ended up reading the rest of the scene. When that line came up, I knew it would be great out of context!

Does anyone know the US Vita release date? I can't find it anywhere. Also, it doesn't look like the game has a listing on Amazon US, but it does on Amazon UK? Is the US not getting a retail release?

They said it is, but I assume there will be a delay because it's still going through Sony QA and this is PQube's first North American release. So, they probably aren't in a position to give a solid estimate at this point.

I have no idea. All of this screams amateurish, nothing can remove that impression. They must've offered a lot of money to 5pb and Mages, I can't think of companies like Aksys and NISA not grabbing this otherwise.
