Witcher 3 downgrade arguments in here and nowhere else

They had that shitty pine leaf bush all the way at the beginning of development. Crazy that nobody in that time took a stab at improving it.

TBH, since that is the lod 0 of that bush. It looks alright.. it is the later LODs that are terrible.

Idk how it was downgraded for consoles. Nobody should have expected the console version to look like the reveal trailer and images shown. It looks good based on the PS4 and Xbox One specs CDPR had to work with.

Yeah that was probably nothing more than pre-rendered, in-engine sure, but pre-rendered for sure :p

The graphics as they are in that gif don't seem out of reach of the hardware available at the time it was put out. There's no doubt in my mind of this whatsoever.

I have to re-post that gif again because of that kid:

THAT 180 NOSCOPE. Luckily for Geralt that kid didn't switch to it's Intervention fast enough

How about we at least wait until the PC version is in people's hands before we start freaking out?

Don't buy the game until you are sure about it.
This isn't a boycott for me and I wouldn't cancel my pre-order over graphics. There's a one in a million chance I won't like this game.

All the dev shit surrounding the downgrade? Comedy goldmine. I don't even blame them necessarily, and I feel bad they have to dance around these questions. Their positions are not enviable. We can wait......... 29.5 hours from now to come to what will probably be the same conclusions if you want, though.

Performance-Verlust durch die verbesserte Optik ist grob geschätzt rund 10 -15 %. Wobei sich das von Karte zu Karte natürlich recht heftig unterscheiden kann.

This is from the 3DCenter Forum. He says the performance hit with the new patch is about 10-15% depending on the island and setting.

Lol disgusting.

Edit - It's just hilarious how important you guys think you are in this thread. "PR damage control" "so much outrage." Lol.

I mean if you want to be the guy carrying the water for blatant false advertisement you go right ahead and wear that badge with pride.

Slightly better lighting, particle effects and better foliage is all I think that's needed to get the game close to this gif. And I'm no games developer but I would think these 3 things aren't exactly hard to add into the game. It's not like you need hundreds of man hours to create new textures for everything to get it close to the reveal trailer.

So how did Ubi pull it off with Unity? Some of the best indoor lighting I've seen.

They probably had a separate team for the indoor areas. People forget just how huge the AC teams are, and it still came out broken. I mean when even GTA V is stingy with its indoor areas, you know that it's tough to get it all together in a seamless package.

Yeah, I don't think this is unattainable thanks to the fact that a). CDPR are very open with modding support, and b). open world game will hopefully mean more people interested in modding, a more thriving scene all round, and better quality mods because of it.

The lighting looked good in the 35 minute trailer. I don't understand why they couldn't have kept it in the PC version.

The game has purely baked indirect lighting (it is why the game is so huge actually on disc).

It would not necessarily work for TW3 given its more dynamic TOD conditions.

Yup according to an anonymous email sent to GB, it is around 30GB of baked lighting.

I don't know how the R* RAGE does it, but imho that engine is more technically capable than RedEngine (mostly).

speak for yourself, I find it exhausting to do without pay.

Praise be! I'll crank that shit up and lock it at 30 if need be. If not I'll just drop down to High for a 60.

I really really agree with you and now that the "downgrade is over"

Let's start a new THREAD

WHY CDPR LIED ON SYS REQ

and i want to see other 125 pages in 1 day..................

False advertising is a ludicrous stretch at the very best. It feels like the onus should more be on you as a videogame fan - someone at least tangentially familiar with the process of how games are made - to recognize that games take a long time to make and have to go through numerous revisions in reaction to an untold number of both outside and internal factors to come to market.

This has been the case since forever, and it's extremely easy to understand why that is the case if you just sit down and think for a moment about the actual process of turning chunks of code into a globally successful product. The final iteration of the Withcher 3 that I have been observing with my own eyes this past week looks utterly amazing, completely within the scope (and often surpassing) what I saw of media from years ago for the game.

Thinking about the normal process of videogame creation as some kind of scandal just seems completely naive and ignorant to me.

I hope so. I mean the textures seem fine, and the lighting does look great at times. To get the sort of lighting and mood the initial reveal had you could probably replicate that with ENB or Reshade or whatever it's called. The only things I can see which are missing are particle effects (grass flying from the left), and realistic smoke (chimneys) and some higher res textures/extra foliage added. I mean to me (and again I'm no developer) particle effects and realistic smoke are like toggles in the game engines right?! Like physx?!

For people saying they didn't have the budget to keep the PC version to the level of the reveal just doesn't make sense to me as a lot of what is shown in that reveal is achievable without huge amounts of manpower. Even if it requires a monster rig to actually play it at those settings. Because lets face it, a lot of us were/have upgraded our PC's to see what we can get with this game.

Let's pray for the modders.

A stretch?

They labelled VGX footage as in-game.
They told people the PC version wouldn't be compromised by what the consoles couldn't do.
They told people there was no downgrade.

The downgrade is fucking massive and their lies are damning.

Massively sensitive fans would defend anything though, so posts like yours aren't surprising, they just have to be dealt with to prevent the bullshit from further spreading.

Given the size of TW3's world, it would be like... 90-120 gigs and would restrict a number of gameplay conditions. I am not sure if it is worth it

Worth it :p

I don't think the lighting before (in that gif for example) looks much better (if at all). I think the differences mostly come from the vegetation density/quality and the object detail. The scene just looks fuller. It has more detailed models. The smoke has also been downgraded. It used to look volumetric, now it just looks like basic thin smoke.

no, theyre really not. you may think they are, but in the grand scheme of things, all of this faux outrage will not add up to jack shit in the end.

thats why this is all so funny

And you think it won't pay off?
Just compare the reception that the Watchdogs E3 reveal trailer got, and the reception that the AC Syndicate reveal trailer got. As long as the Internet drowns in hypocrisy, the developers aren't going to change their tactics.

Yes, it doesn't matter the tech (the guts of the engine) as long it is good to the naked eye.

There's something to be said for the tech and the engine and how much is going on in a game to achieve its visuals but I agree that more often than not if it looks good while playing then it doesn't matter.

Though I am a sucker for dynamic things :p

Yeah, it seems like the scene is just incredibly dense in that one little area. Every part of the image has something moving and going on. The distance detail seems higher though as well
