Ultra Street Fighter IV on PS4 is much, much better now. Bless.

It doesn't look like organizers will have a choice. It's either the PS4 USF4 version and pro tour, or 360 version and no pro tour. You would hope that capcom/sony has the decency to let CEO/EVO play on the 360 if the PS4 version isn't adequate, but I have my doubts.

Absolute worst case scenario would probably be PS3, since that's what EVO used to run on, but it wouldn't look good for this version. They'd be better off cranking out a patch before then, even if it means taking some time away from SFV development.

Yeah, because the 3 other tests didn't go completely smooth or anything.

I hadn't tried them.

You think Sony cares about EVO? The players are the ones that want the very best version of the game to play. Sony just wants the game to be played on a platform they own. The two goals aren't mutually exclusive, if they're related at all. USFIV is functional on PS4 and for Sony, the buck might just stop there, honestly.
Except they're explicitly trying to appeal to tournament players with this move. Busted ports don't accomplish this.

Like, this is before we even factor in the fact patches cost money (so they're going to assess whether the investment is worth it)
Sony's going to charge themselves for a patch?

Someone, somewhere, who worked on this game is reading about the reaction of people and feeling disheartened.

Its unfortunate that Sony are going to have to get their own devs on this to patch up the game before it hits the arcade scene, but i was not familiar with Other Ocean's other work and now i know why.

Its fully on Sony for giving the port to a studio that was unproven. Like Konami giving ZOE to High voltage, or Borderlands collection to the dev that messed it up.

Your just wasting money not inputting the right resources in the first place, commissioning a super cheap port is basically a receipe for disaster for all the good will built up, especially if your using that version for tournaments and such

I would really love to MR Wizard and Jebailey to come upfront and say that if the game isn't fixed a week before their tournaments, 360 ver it is.

That should put some pressure on Sony/Capcom.

Doubt it will happen though.

Sony made this, so it's their mess to fix.

Some off colors.
Slow crawling menus.
A lot of sound bugs. Red focus doesn't make a sound.
Links are working as usual with my Bipson.

Can't recommend it in its current state.

Sony's going to not pay Other Ocean to do the work to make the patch? They're going to not pay their employees responsible for putting the patch up on PSN? They're not going to pay a QA team to test it before they do that? All these people are working for free?

I'll be damned. Maybe that's why this port is so bad!

If there is already a deal involved then that won't happen, this isn't some sort of movie.

Oh man how do you mess this up. Poor EVO.

Sony really needs to up their standards. Why they let Other Ocean tackle this is beyond me.

It's never a good thing when first party does third party's job.

Call of Duty on Vita (if you know the behind-the-scenes mess) is one example.

This doesn't exactly fill me with confidence about the RE:R2 port on Vita, either.

Haha, that's what I meant! It's a wonderful port and on vastly inferior hardware as far as horsepower.

Kinda weird that we live in a world where there's a better performing version of (an iteration of) SFIV on 3DS than on PS4. But I guess that's the difference between an in-house port and a seemingly quick, on the cheap port job.

Meanwhile at Nintendo Q/A:

Those were the people that banned players for picking princess peach and pulling up items in competitive mode and also banned people for using the new dlc character before they fixed smash rank, right? This port is broken, but something about glass houses and throwing turnips.

Shhh Nintendo is perfect so I don't know what you're talking about!

This is basic knowledge at this point dude. Patches = dev time and QA. They cost money. You pay people for their work.

It's your reasoning behind these "hard truths" that doesn't pass the smell test.

Sony's paying to get tournament players on board. No patch fails to accomplish this since it will only piss off everyone who goes to Evo, CEO etc. Super good look.

So you go rambling on about cost benefit analysis and that there's no way they'll do it? Ok.
