JW BIGGEST WORLDWIDE OPENING WEEKEND EVER

http://www.forbes.com/sites/scottme...rld-scores-near-record-204-5-million-weekend/

In a “close-but-no-cigar,” weekend sprint in America, Jurassic World found itself sandwiched between two Avengers movies. With a whopping $204.596 million opening weekend in America, it is the second-best Fri-Sun debut of all time, between Avengers: Age of Ultron ($191m) and The Avengers ($207m). Oh, and it also earned $511.8 million worldwide, easily eclipsing the $494m debut of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part II to score the biggest worldwide debut of all time, so I guess that makes everything better.

I hope we see 100 different dino projects greenlighted. I'd like to see, like a European or Chinese arthouse angled dino flick.

you can't put a price on sparks
if you told me this would happen i would have never believed it.

i STILL don't believe it. i am just baffled that a movie that had 1 movie in the franchise that was good 14 years ago and two awful ones did these numbers

Who knew the Jurassic Park love was so intense

200 mil opening weekend? Are you kidding me?

Can Star Wars even beat this?

No but seriously that is insane. If Jurassic nostalgia can carry it this much, I can't imagine what Star Wars will do.

People will say right now "of course!"

But the marketing push hasn't even started yet. Wait until around September/October to see how that pans out. I'm sure the marketing campaign is huge though. Spared no expense.

Imagine the meltdowns when JW outperforms AoU. 0__o

I actually don't think there will be any meltdowns. Furious 7 already beat it overseas/worldwide. I don't think that there is any doubt that Star Wars will fail to hit the $460M required to beat it domestically. Does it really matter if Jurassic World gets there first?

Do they use time-aligned numbers or is this based on the literal same weekend, and therefore tied to how many regions you actually launch in on the same date?

Literal same weekend.

However, in this case, I don't think that makes a difference.

Or people looking for a fun Summer movie that isn't based on a comic book..... Personally I am rather tired of super hero movies, and Marvel's soulless, formulaic films.

There is something to this I think. When you see the success of something like F7 and now JW. It's not that superhero movies are done, or won't still be huge, but I said it in the other thread that JW is something my parents would go see and they wouldn't be caught dead going to something like Avengers or Batman/Superman. It feels like the bigger these extended comic book cinematic universes get, the more they might put a ceiling on the audiences that might go to see them. By the time Avengers 2 hit there's been a half dozen MCU movies for people to decide if they like that sort of thing or not. People might also be put off by the perceived barrier of entry of having to have watched the previous movies in the series and be able to follow along with characters and their storylines.

24. 24 years ago.

Star Wars is going to be fucking HUGE

I do think if people who liked Jurassic World go back and rewatch JPIII, they're gonna find themselves liking it a little more than they did previously. The two films have a lot in common, really.

I couldn't stop thinking in the theater that it was like a good version of JAWS 3.
