that stuff takes time to sort out. besides, shenmue 3 being as popular an idea as it is right now was an unknown quantity before the reveal.

we've got it now at the halfway mark of the campaign. that's better than nothing, and should help the campaign cost to $5 million even before the supposed big final rush.

From reading a listening to Yu Suzuki's interviews, he indicated that he will be extremely careful about where to place any real-world NPC, photos, and so on because he does not want to ruin the game world in respect to culture education, immersion, etc. This is why there are a limited number of entries, and he will be highly critical about placements. E.g. a real world chinese/asian person has a higher chance of being one of the general NPC villagers than a white or black person which has a higher chance of being located in a tourist area. This makes person sense for I don't want the game to be bastardized due to goal fulfillment... need to be smart about it.

With that being said, I feel like this KS, though it's done a good job with their latest updates, still speak too closely to their core fans.

What I liked the most about the Bloodstained KS was well, there was an effort to work with advocates among the games media, like with Colin Moriarty who's a known Castlevania fan, to basically get the message out even to those who may not have been Iga fans, but fans of Colin.

Advocates for Shenmue 3 amongst the mainstream games media personalities is pretty much non-existent. I'm not an avid fan of any one of them in particular ( respect a lot of them, and like a lot of their work, but not a diehard fan), but the reality is that a lot of these people are popular and have a following.

Yeah.
I think that's because Shenmue is a Dreamcast saga, with fans mostly having a job now, so much more money.

So there are less backers, but higher level of donations.

not sure if this is new, but apparently the I AM SHENMUE 3 reward is now available if you take the lucky hit reward. if you missed out on I AM SHENMUE 3 and have a bit more money to spare, go for it!

Yeah, Mark is a huge SEGA fan! I like his Shenmue review and I'm looking forward to him reviewing Shenmue 2.
Also, Mark and Classic Game Room are much more about having random fun and focusing on good aspects of games. In general they're all about being positive and optimistic. A great alternative to the "angry/annoyed/jaded/professional" reviews that plague the enthusiast press these days.

Shenmue III's higher per backer amount means that despite the slightly lower backer numbers it has surpassed the latter 3 in total funding. It has a siginificant backer lead over Bloodstained at this point.
