First thing's first: Fuck Konami.

But furthermore, fuck Konami. How do they not lose money with this deal? What could Kojima have possibly done? Do they really think Metal Gear will still sell as well without Kojima's name attached to it? In an era of social media, not only will "Fuck Konami's" run wild, but also "THIS GAME IS GOING TO BE GARBAGE, IT'S JUST KONAMI WHORING OUT THE METAL GEAR NAME WITHOUT THE ORIGINAL CREATOR" will become a very common sentiment. I mean, even before social media, Kojima may very well have been the most well known video game director in the world. Not even Miyamoto puts his name on the box of his games.

I don't think they're going to get away with that. And, knowing Konami, Metal Gear Solid will become an annual/biannual franchise, only shitting on the reputation of the franchise further.

If you haven't noticed, Konami really doesn't give a shit about video games anymore. This doesn't even register in terms of where they want the company to be at this point.

I feel a part of me dies with the death of KojiPro. :(

I hope Kojima finds another great place to let his ideas thrive. Hopefully in new genres. Would love to see his take on VR gameplay.

From what ive read, kojima really understands western development and delegating/outsourcing development for MGSV is an example of that. They got different studios involved and run together under kojimas eye (just look at the credits in ground zeroes).

Any japanese studio should pick him to learn how to develop their games on schedule. Im looking at you sony japan studio.

I seem to remember seeing a powerpoint slide for their financials where their main earnings came from something like:

-mobile games
-sports games
-METAL GEAR SOLID

I guess they've since struck MGS off the list. Absolutely crazy.

Honestly this is still very depressing. Such an amazing studio. Silver lining is definitely that Kojima and friends are free from Konami's moist festering mitts.

Good. I wouldn't be able to stand Koji pro continue making metal gear games without kojima.

Hopefully kojima is taking some of his guys along with him wherever he lands.

That was either the Molyneux or Harai twitter parody :)

It's been common knowledge for months now but it doesn't hurt any less. Man, the ending to TPP is going to be intense. With MGS4 I always had it in my mind as I played it that "this is the last one chronologically, no more Solid Snake after this". With TPP, I will always have it in my mind that "this is the last one, ever".

Nah. They'll still make MGS but it will be without Kojima, so not worth playing then. Unless Platinum makes another Rising game.

So this is what hell is like.

At least MGSV won't be impacted in any way and will release on schedule. Will probably have to print a custom case cover for TPP with KJP logo and "A Hideo Kojima Game" tag line.

What if Microsoft bought him to vigorate Xbox Japan? Pay him some outragous amount of millions for a 5 year contract or something to work on 2-3 xbox one projects as some producer?

If I ever post something in Japanese which I don't understand, please BAN me.
Maybe we can get Del Toro in there too. :p I'm pretty sure he's said Eva is one of his favourites. Which reminds me, I really need to go watch it.

How much did you donate for this tag?

Right. Of course they will. I guess what I'm asking is: Why get rid of the man who has been behind the MGS franchise for 25 years? The man that made it into a worldwide phenomenon and video game juggernaut? What possible benefit could that provide them?

All I could think of is they want him to release the games more frequently, and he told them to fuck off.

surely they realize that cranking out a new MGS every one or two years without the original creator involved is a terrible idea that will kill the franchise. surely they can't be that stupid.

MS isn't going to make any significant resources to jumpstart the Japanese side of the business. Any deal they would make with Kojima would be because of how well his games do in the west.

I see what you're getting at but kojima is way beyond the kickstarter level. I'd imagine he'll get AAA-ish money from someone to make a new game without the need for a KS.

They basically did do this, mobile was listed separately but their retail figures used to be given in the format of Soccer, Baseball Metal Gear and Other. They stopped doing this in April, when they didn't say a whole lot about retail, I assume it'll continue like that.

Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo will fund Kojima's next game. Guaranteed. He won't need Kickstarter.

I just hope he manages to keep the core Koji Pro team together until that opportunity comes up.

Do you honestly think that in say, 3 or 4 years, people wouldn't be hyped if they unveiled a huge open world metal gear with great graphics at an e3 conference? They could even quietly distance themselves from kojima, call it Metal Gear ____ and constantly say how much they love what kojima did for the series in PR, though of course they are putting their own spin on things. There's a formula to this.

I think you're really overestimating the amount of people that care about who makes the games they play.
