Night phase for ONUW 3 will be 24 hours, day phase will be 48 hours with a 24 hour voting phase directly after.

Wow, so many already! I'll get a proper list up and do setup when I get back to my PC.

Let me know what roles you intend to use and I can help iron out any potential problems.

God damn @ the Cthulu game.

OK, starting to put together ONUW 3. Sorian, you in? You know, since you aren't doing anything? ;)

I think we're going to run the same setup as last game for this one. I see where I messed up the Doppelganger, so I want to do it right before I add more craziness.

Jeez, the Archer thread is just dead. No one wants to discuss anything anymore. I guess they've realized that every post, no matter how innocent, can lead to your doom.
I think they should totally spare me for teaching them such a valuable lesson.

I still don't understand why we started with 2 less players. I get that Traube disrespected Crab when he requested more players than the other games, but removing 2 more hurt us more than Traube.

Crab is cold blooded. ):

Yes, I am still in for ONUW. It'll be nice to finally get into a game since I never made one this season.

You were even quite high on the priority list as a new player! I guess the same thing happened to you now as what happened to me last season: I was on top of the replacement list for a month, but I kept getting skipped for some reason. Something similar would have probably happened here too, crab just sucks at using lists!

Man, the Cthulhu thread has seen so little activity since it started. If only it'd had at least one frequent poster... too bad that didn't happen.

nailed it

At best, it's a cheap tactic to give a flimsy position the illusion of credibility. It's like a crazy person insisting that they got married because they carved two initials and a heart in a tree last week. If anything, this type of bullshit is the last thing that should be trusted.

Worst of all, it's borderline cheating and against the spirit of the game. I wont overstep gamerunner boundaries and scold people directly, but I'll complain about it here.

I'm just an observer but I notice that tactic was used by Palmer in SW and nobody raises any complain there.
In fact, I think it's an ingenious maneuver, it made raindoc trusts him and lead them to victory.

Man, placing 'codes' in your posts is possibly even worse than post-counting.

I agree. Like, what's the point? The odds are basically just as even town will find it as they are mafia will. In fact, if *only* mafia find it and don't tell anyone, it is even worse than if you hadn't said anything at all. I don't think it is cheating or anything, I just think it sucks as a strategy.

I agree that codes are stupid, but you're talking about an active game in the recruitment thread, I don't think you should be making comments like the bolded.

It applies to almost every game of Mafia we've had on GAF, and it's not necessarily characteristic of any alignment.

The general problem I see is that there are players who seem wired to look for ways to 'break' the rules, find loopholes, be sneaky, etc. As a game runner, I'm wary of people who break the game, or play it in a way that is against what I think the spirit of the game is. Not that I'm trying to condemn or shame anyone - I believe there might be a natural difference between people who see rules as "these are the only things you are allowed to do" VS those who see rules as "you can do anything except for these things". The latter is probably going to try to get away with a lot of things that the gamerunners perhaps didn't think of covering the bases for.

I do believe that it's important to let players be creative in how they problem-solve, and make the rules flexible enough to support that. I think every game runner has given that opportunity, but maybe in varying amounts. However, I think stuff like breadcrumbing and encrypted messages is against the basic tenet of Mafia/Werewolf - all the daytime, "Main Thread" talk should be public and able to be weighed. Encoding messages is a deliberate attempt to subvert that.
