First 40 minutes of Assassin's Creed: Syndicate

Sad that the hidden blade is not selectable again, if only because it had some of the best counter-kills in previous games. I know a lot of folks hated the insta-kill stuff, but I found it pretty satisfying.

An Ubi community manager clarified the patch size in an AC subreddit post - 534MB on PS4, 520MB on XB1.

Man, people starting to get desperate drumming shit up about this game.

The posting-to-shitposting ratio in this thread has far surpassed what would be graveyard-worthy in threads about other games. What gives?

So much confirmation bias everywhere:

PS4 and much smoother then Unity. Choppy at moments but I've yet to hit a slideshow area like Unity either.
That doesn't sound very promising.

People are ready to exaggerate the tiniest issue into a full-blown Unity-level catastrophe, if this thread is any indication. For instance, I could easily say:

PS4 and much smoother then Unity. Choppy at moments but I've yet to hit a slideshow area like Unity either.
That sounds promising.

We literally have no evidence either way except for the two users ITT who say it's way better than Unity.

After Unity, I don't think they'd risk guffing that up again.

Same. It was the only weapon I ended up using ACIII up to Unity.

Slasher not sure if you can say, does the entire game map take place in London? Unity was all in Paris (except for the prologue) and got old for me pretty fast. I guess the change of scenery in AC3 Boston/NY/ Wilderness and Black Flag spoiled me.

This is a great discussion – but in my opinon Arno is the best protagonist in the whole series.

People can rag on Unity all they want, but Arno is well written and gets more meaningful development than any other AC character (although Ezio's early cockiness through to bitter middle age was great).

He goes from cocky rich-man's son, to confused and try-hard novice assassin, to older bitter assassin near the end. He gets all of Ezio's development, told far more efficiently and in one game. So good. Quite a few funny and meaningful lines. Elise is great, too.

Desmond was generic crap. Ezio was ridiculous and empty, but not bad. The same goes for most of them - they are superficial characters for the most part, even if they have good traits. I felt Connor Kenway and Arno were the only ones with some soul - though Connor was turgid af.
Joke post? Everything about Unity's story was clumsily written cliche trash.

I'm still playing but my guess would be yes aside from the intro moments. Will have to play more. I'm juggling games at the moment. Just got done with Fatal Frame, now working AC and Halo 5.

Give me any open world game that doesn't have those moments on consoles. I'll be waiting for that huge list. ;)

On PS4 we have Arkham Knight, MGSV, Mad Max, Mordor, Watch Dogs, Far Cry 4 or Black Flag.

All those games have really solid framerates.

If Syndicate runs like any of them, I'll be more than happy.

Slasher is the map flooded with chests to collect? If so, are they the only collectibles?

Yes there are many chests. In one region I thought I had got all of them, then in the progression settings I saw that I was nowhere close lol so I bought a map with the in-game currency and it showed another 30 more in that region. Most of them give you currency and resources needed for crafting. The gold ones gives you random things such as rare materials, weapons, upgrade schematics and even costumes.

Cheers. Same crap as Unity then.

Kinda hoping my map wouldn't be cluttered like Unity this time, but oh well. :\

Except I remember some chests could only be unlocked thought that annoying app. None of that in here. Also each sequence has a recommended level you should be at before attempting do it, which I like as it stops you from rushing though the story and actually concentrating on side missions to level up faster.
I was level 4 and attempted a level 6 mission and did it no problem, but when attempting a level 9 mission that is when it got tricky, the enemies are much stronger and you can get rekt in 2 hits, they also have massive health which a level 4 player will struggle to kill.

Oh thank sweet Jesus.

Level recommendations can be okay if the side content is at all worth it. Is the side stuff any good?

GTA V
Mad Max
Watch Dogs

There are possibly more than I listed of course :)

The frame rate in mad max was pretty bad in places, particularly when driving in the top half of the map (ps4 version)

Also gta5 was a last gen up-port. The ps3 version had a horrendous frame rate

Infamous Second Son is also really smooth even with the framerate unlocked option enabled

It's been a long time since I played an AC, plan to get Blackflag soon and maybe this one next year, don't know if the stories of latest games are standalone pieces.

This game basically seems like what Unity should have been.

I wonder how much Assassin's Creed still has in it. Even if this makes the right steps forward, I wonder how long the franchise will still last.

I watched some of PS4trophies stream this morning. He said it has improved in almost every aspect over Unity. He did not like Unity, but said he is loving this game so far. One of the big things that I found interesting was that the stupid lock picking mini game is gone. You just hold a button now and it unlocks. He said most of the repetition from unity is gone

Eurogamer's Ian Higton summed up his two hour stream by saying if you think it's going to be as bad as Unity, you are wrong.

Yeah I enjoyed Unity but it had so many issues at launch, I'm excited to discuss the new game.

My first experience with Unity - I had just seen the Ubisoft "Next Generation Starts Here" advert so decided to get it.

Booted game. It hung at main menu, as it couldn't contact Uplay (which crashed at launch... and for a while after). Tried power cycling. Stuck at main menu. And again. Eventually realised to unplug Ethernet cable from Xbox.

Started game. Fell through world. Got to a chest. Couldn't unlock it as it needed the mobile companion App, which didn't work (and never did - they eventually removed it from the game).

Such a strange experience. Good intentions - bringing series back to assassin roots - poorly executed.
