Still super early in Chapter 2 but I'm really enjoying it so far. Just like FC I still feel like there needs to be some Idiot's Guide to Orbments so I know what to equip on all my characters. Like, I know how it works and all that jazz but I still find it overwhelming and I'm stupid.

Thanks Kuwabara. Here it pays off that I've got a couple hundred save files. :lol

Well, don't forget that your bracer notebook has an extensive list of all magic spells and the combinations you need for them. That's quite handy. Apart of that, though, just don't think too much about it. You can't do anything wrong and even "bad" orbments will get you through the game just fine. So, just go for whatever feels useful at the time. Sooner or later you'll get a feeling for what spells are useful to you and what aren't.

Just a quick question, do you get anything extra for getting full BP at the end of the game? Like extra scenes or armor/weapons.
Double post, but having early game and late game stuff in one post is kinda unfortunate even with spoiler tags.

Don't think there are any extra scenes. There is one scene that slightly changes depending on your rank, but that's not really a case of better or worse. In order to get access to the ultimate weapons, you'll need to find all volumes of the Gambler Jack book series (which, honestly, is a lot harder than getting all BP).

As with FC -> SC, you'll get some special rewards in The 3rd for getting Max BP in SC (well, actually you are allowed to miss up to two BP in order to get the best possible reward, I think), but who knows if we'll ever get that one anyway.

Just starting chapter 8. Am wondering exactly how much more epic the story can get!
After two games and a total of 120+ hours, I feel like I know Liberl like the back of my hand. Am now just enjoying doing the sidequests and roaming around as a Bracer, righting wrongs and fixing
telephones
.

Am always surprised at the depth of the characters, even when they are superficially simplistic. Am dying to know what
Olivier and Mueller
are up to, but right now it feels like a cool mirroring of the start of FC, with Joshua, Estelle, Agate and co wandering the roads the long way around the country!

Good to hear as well, if there were extra scenes for getting all BP I might of jumped out the window cause I'm 56 hours in lol.

If there's one thing I learned from completing SC... it's that the real threat to Liberl is not any evil organization, but

1) Karate sheep
2) Cactuses that can walk
3) Giant worms that haven't had their 8AM coffee

You forgot one:

The two Trails in the Sky suffer from Chrono Cross music syndrome where the soundtrack is excellent in general, but the battle theme is ehhh.

I fucking love FC's regular battle theme. It's good! SC's... not so much. It's just there, but at least it doesn't annoy me like it seems to some of y'all.

As was said, don't worry TOO MUCH about it. As long as you have some stronger healing spells (single & AOE) as well as maybe couple of characters with good offensive spells with different elements (single & AOE), you should be fine. Buffs & debuffs can be a valuable help in making fights easier, but most of them should be doable without assuming you're not severely underleveled somehow. If you get stuck in some battle, maybe take a look at the enemies' weaknesses (what elements they are weak to, can you use any debuffs) and think about their strengths (is the enemy fast? do they have a single super attack that can (almost) wipe out your entire party?) and see if you can do something to improve your odds by switching around your Quartz to learn different spells. That way you should be able to get around their strengths (sspeed yourself up, increase your defense or hope you get a well-timed use of that damage-nullifying Earth spell) & take advantage of their weaknesses (from what I recall, bosses are usually immune to a lot of the more special debuffs, but strength & defense debuffs often still work). 200CPs at the start of battles always helps to get off to an efficient enemy-slaughtering start, of course. :p

As far as character specific Orbments go, most characters have element specific Quartz slots, so use that a bit of a help for the direction to take them in. If someone you want to cast spells has, like, 3 mandatory water slots, then you might want to look up what other elements best supplement the water-element to suit your needs (from the Quartz you have or can buy). With more melee focused (tank) characters, it can be better to just focus on what the Quartz does to their melee attack potential (how strong their attacks are, how often they attack, health increase for tanks etc.) and there's less need to focus on what kind of spells you learn. If they gain a few useful spells that can help you out at times, that's all the much better, but usually you can just focus on attacking with those characters. And of course some characters have somewhat limiting Orbment structures, so they aren't even able to learn some of the best spells.

Arts are most useful for enemies with weaknesses to elements and constant AOE bombardment when there are a group of enemies close enough to each other, but don't forget that Crafts can quite often be more useful than Arts if you just have the CP, especially ones that have additional effects that delay enemy turns or stop their spell-casting (if the enemy isn't immune).

FC's basic battle theme is definitely better than SC's, but the rest of SC's soundtrack cleans house.

One theme in particular that stands out is SC's road theme. I really didn't like FC's road theme, it grated on my ears after a while (especially bad when looking for something on the road). But SC's is so good, it has that "open-air" feel to the song which makes running around like a doofus more enjoyable.

I'm not kidding when I say that at the end of FC I started to avoid most battles because I was so sick of the battle theme. When I replayed FC on PC last year, I replaced the original track with the Zanmai version of Sophisticated Fight and it became just so much more enjoyable to me. I love that version.

I liked SC's battle theme well enough in comparison.

this game has more pacing issues than FC ever had. it took until chapter 5-6 until i was somewhat satisfied with how things were flowing. needed more adventure, less dialog.

Done with chapter 3 here.

Let's begin chapter 4 ----

Oh.

FUCK YES!

Also, level 72?! Holy guacamole. This is giving me Breath of Fire IV flashbacks.

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!
Just downloaded and put about an hour into FC. Feels like a Gamearts RPG ripped out of the 90's with some slight quality of life features patched in.

Granted that entire hour was mostly reading with a scant couple tutorial dungeons, but it does seem promising. Might feel a bit old at this point to get into a narrative driven anime RPG, though I am enjoying the characters nicely enough so far(at least Estelle's enthusiasm and perkiness is charming). I would have swooned over this game in my teens and twenties. May stick with it longer, though not fully motivated quite yet.

stick with it. you will enjoy the writing.

Y'all suck, Strepitoso Fight is good stuff. I associate the opening stinger bars with "Buzz, look, an alien!" to make it funnier. Sophisticated Fight is certainly superior, but the mini-boss/early boss theme from FC is disappointing compared to both (while Obstructive Existence in SC is awesome).

But keep in mind, regaining all your old powers this quickly is bound to have a catch, and I don't mean just everything revealed in FC's ending
.

I haven't played in a few days, I'm a tad lost

How to access the Factria District? I used the Gospel ID, but Joshua says we also need a password and he may know who has it.

Damn, today's gonna turn me into a shill. In other news, I replayed Chapter 1 from FC and caught Anelance in two locations I didn't find her last time (
The Kingfisher Inn before talking with Maybelle at her manor + Verte checkpoint after visiting Haken Gate
).

My favorite post is you randomly using Aidios in the Disaster Report 4 thread. I think I'll start using Aidios as a replacement for God now as well. :p
Hopefully I can replace God with Aidios for all my expressions, but many work because "God" is one syllable, not three, so it's a pain to find substitutes and use them from habit.

I just finished Chapter 3 and need to go clean up the various monster-hunt sidequests.
I knew something was fishy as hell with Renne from the get-go. I figured she was taking the opportunity to spy on the Bracer Guild's inner workings, and her questions about Joshua were just too on-point for somebody who'd never met Estelle and co. before. Didn't peg her as a Gundam pilot, though.

I'm also pleasantly surprised to find that this game runs smooth as butter on my cheapo netbook. I know it's an old game, but I was still expecting to encounter hiccups trying to run it on a generic Intel GPU.

The post-chapter stuff of Ch4 was hilarious:

Anton is quickly becoming my favourite NPC. Such a tragic hero. Other JRPGs would love to have a chracter as deep as him for a protagonist! And Aina might just be more mysteriously powerful than all of the super villains you encountered up until now.

Just started Chapter 5 for real and I'm lost who to take me with me.
I always stuck to Kloe/Oliver until now since those are my favourite characters. But Schera grew on me quite a bit and I like Tita for her dynamic with Agathe and the obvious sad moments that lie ahead in terms of Mischa. I also really like Zane and feel like I have to give him more attention. Why can't I have everyone in my party at all times for maximum story exposition? :(

The best part about her in that chapter is that
if you heal her when you escort her to town you can see straight up that she has 10k HP.
