Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
So I feel like this is the time I usually take before each sale to apologize in advance and let everyone know that Enhanced Steam's servers will likely be overloaded for a while, especially so when the sale first starts. It will be interesting to see the server load at 10am every day during the sale, considering that's when it typically spikes up to insane levels in other sales due to new daily deals being rolled out. Without these deals changing every day, I'm curious to see if there will be the same traffic spikes.

When allocating servers for the sales I always try to get enough horsepower to where I can sit back and say "Okay, there's no way this is going to get overloaded" (within budgetary restraints, of course) but every sale the level of traffic always surprises me and always exceeds not only my expectations, but also my expectations of what's even possible.

It's been nearly 3 years since I first released Enhanced Steam, and every major summer/autumn/winter sale has been the same cycle as described above. Now that it's been downloaded nearly 2,500,000 times (hint: it's likely that today will be the day it reaches 2.5m) it's hard to imagine that it started out on a shared VPS hosting plan and has grown now into 9 API servers behind a pair of redundant load balancers (11 dedicated servers total).

With any luck, there will be enough server power during the sale so that everyone who wants to can enjoy Enhanced Steam's features to the fullest. But please know that if things do go south, as tends to happen, that I'll be working on bringing additional resources online as quickly as possible.

Thanks again for everyone's support now and in the past, and I hope everyone has a great Steam sale!

gave away the keys to the kingdom.
Just Cause 3's pre-load has been fixed. 51.4GB install/38.5GB download. It seems the subs were correctly set up after all but the two other depots weren't pre-loadable.

Edit: You'll need to reinitialise the pre-load (delete and reinstall). I thought Steam would be smart enough to automatically start downloading the other depots as they were made available, but apparently not.

If this thread gets closed very few of the regulars will post in the sale thread and few of those new to Steam will post in here afterwards for possibly a couple of reasons. If this thread stays open few of the regulars will post in the sales thread but post in here about how awful the sales thread is and how the same questions are being asked that are answered in the OP scaring off anyone new wanting to join in here. Face it we're a bunch of miserable bastards that don't like company or change!
tldr: No matter how you look at it anime gifs win.

Bundle Stars has a Quake Bundle for $10.19

4 games + 5 expansions...no idea if that's a good price or not

they also have the 3D Realms Anthology for $11.99

Oh for crying out loud ;(!

I was gonna have funds to buy it on Steam since I recently got a $50 steam wallet card.

I had money to buy this outside of steam wallet but used it up for the bundles from bundle star and humble yesterday XD!

I got a coupon but in the end its $9.18 - I'm 12 cents short!!!!!! DAMNATIONS :O!

Edit: This is better than the steam bundle since it has Quake IV! WOOOOOW !

hey! talk for yourself, I like new people and I try to answer all questions I can!

I still can't stand sales threads

even if we complain about not reading problem here, at least some people do read, while in sales threads.... yeah

and we need a new ambassador for the winter sales thread, as Experte failed us miserably the last time.

that's so sweet, but really you shouldn't apologize, even valve's servers can't cope with sales, we all here understand how it is. Thanks for your hard work as always.

y'all should be ashamed
Well, for this Steam sale I decided to average out my standard discounts and super high promo discounts, and have the same price for both Autumn and Winter.

Really looking forward to this. I wonder how it'll all go.

This thread will stay open since everyone is scared to lock it and interact with some new blood. Even if they ask some basic questions repeatedly.

pls understand.

The sales thread will be an overcrowded thread. Fresh Steam converts asking random questions, closet-peasants asking for deals on AAA games, people screaming "where are the dailies!", ...
Even lots of happy people buying games when they are only -10% off. Madness.

Meanwhile, this thread, SteamGAF... It's the dirty back alley. Fresh Steam converts are scared to venture in it.
It's gonna be even worse here. Complaining left and right. "Shit sale!", "I'm keeping my money", "Winter sale, it is", ...
When you visit the back alley, take yer boots, because the salt will pile up... FAST.

Rumours say that sometimes... sometimes those from the SteamGAF back alley will try to trick innocent people from the Sales thread into joining them back at their place. Those trickers will persuade them by telling the benefits, not the side effects. One major side effect being that the back alley is filled with Anime left and right. Every wall plastered with anime. Waifu dolls in every corner.
Eventually those new members will realize, "SteamGAF" is but a utopia. They are now in AnimeGAF. And they can not escape.

every minute spent perusing the sale is a minute less spent cooking up the next batch of crack cook, serve, delicious to sell to us.

Maybe just shut them down for the first hour or so? Save yourself the bandwidth from the initial rush where the steam store will probably be broken anyway.

What has Switzerland ever done to anyone to get a region lock foisted upon them? Is that some funky language filtering gone haywire?

you are permitted to take a short 2 hour dinner break on thanksgiving, provided that it's a working dinner.

Wouldn't every meal be considered research? Well maybe if you prepared your meals with a keyboard.

Dusk alluded to the lack of featured deals not being the full story, so I assume there'll be something in their stead. Someone theorised that you may now get random coupons for unowned games based on your playing habits, which could be an improvement versus hoping something shows up as a featured deal.

I dont really trust that system, especially if you have a big pile of Bundlegarbage in your Account.

They should do that with your wishlist instead.

So it's confirmed the Winter sale won't have dailies either? Balls.
