Firewatch launching on February 9, 2016 [PS4 | PC]

Short bus special
Is it true this game is only
5 days long and each day is 30 min, meaning 2.5 hrs of gameplay?

Unconfirmed.

Slight trophies spoilers.
There are only 5 trophies though. Each for all days. But.... the first two are for Day 1 and 2. The others.... further apart. I say no more.

So... nobody can say yet.

Doing an OST on PS4 is a little bit weird (they dont have a music store anymore on that system I believe?) so we opted to do a Game + PS4 Theme bundle instead. The theme is really nice! (We'll have more on the theme later this week, I think.)

Any chance of a digital art book being released as DLC for the Steam version somewhere down the line?

Can't wait, been following this game for a while now and so excited for it.

Was bummed I missed out on some of those early Firewatch posters they had up for sale and made them limited :(.

stealth brag.

Haha -- totally not intended as such. Just so many great indie titles with awesome unique formulas coming out right now. I've only solved ~100 panels in The Witness, and spent an inordinate amount of time on the Divison beta. This year is shaping up to be as great for games as was imagined.

Unlikely. The behind-the-scenes art for this game was communicative and functional. It's not book-worthy. However there will probably be more arty merch down the line!

Firewatch: Ambience

Such a pretty game.

Some more info posted today on their blog, not sure if everyone already knows all this anyway.

You may already know that Firewatch is releasing for Windows, Mac, Linux, and PlayStation 4 on February 9, 2016—that’s one week from today!

What you may not know is everything else about the launch. Here we go…

Firewatch is priced at US$19.99 on Steam and the PlayStation Store.

On Steam, you can preorder the game now at a 10% discount - and it can be bought bundled with the original soundtrack, which is also 10% off!

On PlayStation Network, you can buy the game on release day, and PlayStation Plus members will get 10% off! We’ve developed a super-snazzy PS4 theme, and that will be available separately or in a discounted bundle with the game.

If you want more details, we’ve also relaunched the official Firewatch site, which includes a lengthy FAQ as well as a page packed full of screenshots and trailers.

We’re really excited that Firewatch is finally approaching its release, and we can’t wait to hear what you all think. Thanks for being patient while we put all the finishing touches on this thing and got our launch plans worked out!

I wonder on UK PS4 price then... certainly won't be £20.

Doesn't matter as i'm getting it day one either way. Been waiting what seems like years for this game.

Seriously, looks fucking perfect. I can't wait. Day one for the PS4 version/animated theme.

Damn. That's 7 days.

Bloodborne's digital OST was basically a PS4 app. Not sure if that was because it was a Sony game, or if it's open to other devs. Was pretty weird, though.

Everyone talking about how beautiful Firewatch is should try some (real life) hiking on the some of the great American trails. This game reminds me exactly of those beautiful outdoor vistas. Part of why I am super psyched for it :)

Ah, fair enough.
Because the team was so small most of the art direction in Firewatch took place in-engine! It's one of the reasons Unity is so great. I'm a 3D baby and I could go in and tweak the colour and lighting of the actual game until they were more or less exactly how I wanted them.

There are more of those mini-trailers scattered around the new site.

Hey Jake, Matt from the Twin Peaks Podcast here. Feedbacked your Twin Peaks Rewatch podcast a few times. I have to ask, are there any Twin Peaks easter eggs in the game? (Spoiler tag your answer if necessary)

I PM'd this font to the |OT| creator. Thought it was perfect.

That's pretty good! Gotta love those old national park/forest style typefaces!

For the record, our we use the Verlag font family from Hoefler & Co, though for the logo and posters Olly usually re-draws it himself for a handmade look.

Hopefully the PS4 users get the soundtrack edition as well.

No soundtrack on PS4 (it's very weird to do soundtracks on PS4, as that system hasn't got a music store!) but we will be doing a theme & game bundle. The theme's pretty rad.

What's the final word on this? Console exclusive or debut?

Making its console debut on PS4. (Day and date with Windows, Mac, Linux.)

I'm really looking forward to this, but I don't like digital only games, so I'm going to hold off and cross my fingers that they do a physical release down the line. And, if they don't, maybe it will be on sale at that time.

Does this game have combat? Is it just exploring and interacting with objects? This looks good but I'll wait for the walkthroughs.

I'm kinda pumped as this means I can buy this and Infamous 2 for $40. Shout out to all my fellow gamers on that used AAA plan.

Bummer. :( There was a separate soundtrack of Everybody's Gone to the Rapture and Resogun in the PSN store though, the latter being free, but they're disappointingly rare.

EDIT: And several retail special editions have included a PSN store download code for a soundtrack.

Will it be sold separately somewhere?

Nobody finishes The Witness... ;)

So probably 30 CAD,nice, getting this for sure on PS4.

Exactly lol. I aint expecting to finish that up by the time this comes out. It will be a good contrast to The Witness since this is more "sit back and enjoy the narrative" rather than "get sent through mental boot camp where hell week will kill your brain cells and rebuild them up as quantum processors".

Jake, do you have a confirmation on timing of release for the UK PSN store? I'm hoping it's 00:01 so I can get stuck right into it!

whoa, you guys used Unity? Super impressed by how far it's come and what devs are able to do with it lately. I really gotta give it a go sometime.
