Dragon Ball Xenoverse ships 3.13 million units worldwide, regional breakdown given

Japan: 230,000
Asia: 60,000
North America: 1,780,000
Europe: 1,050,000

Includes digital sales.

I know the total provided is 100k more than that region breakdown, but maybe it includes South America or they rounded some numbers down.

Gotta go back to the PS2 to find a Dragon Ball game with these type of numbers.

Wow that's crazy numbers. What was the consensus on the game, good?

really good game, best dbz in years. its not a fighter tho, its more like a rpg fighter if you will. biggest issue i had with it were that some of the story fights are pretty fucking cheap, especially the one against fat buu and RNG on top of RNG

What are the complaints about mechanics? I just bought it during the PSN sale and find it pretty great mechanically and I don't care at all about the Dragon Ball IP.

Excellent news. It more than deserves a sequel.

It's a lot of fun, but the RNG on top of RNG grinds down some people.

I found the controls to be really, really clunky.

I think the combat is a lot of fun, but grinding for items, moves, and gear is badly implemented. Also some of the online features are clunky. But I still love it.

The game is extremely unbalanced with saiyans making the game stupid simple. Turn super and spam energy beams until the bad guy dies. Alternatively, you can go for a melee fighter which ends up being a lot more fun until you fight two or more saiyans at the same time at which point you end up getting spammed to hell with little hope of winning.

That said, the fan service is really fucking good. I highly recommend it to anyone who is a fan of the show. The game is flawed as hell and the RNG is the fucking worst but I still loved it and dumped a huge amount of time into it.

Looks likely that we'll get a sequel then! Which is good news. The game had the right idea, but it has a lot of room to improve. Among other things, I'd like to see a better local multiplayer, personally. Some previous games like the Budokai Tenkaichi series had great features like picking a 5 character team to battle a friend with, but the local multiplayer here lacks pretty much anything but a basic 1-on-1. Unless I've missed something...

It's a lot of fun, but the RNG on top of RNG grinds down some people.

What do you mean by this? Can you elaborate?

If I'm not going into imbalances in skills, z-souls and movesets (fucking *try* to get good with Guldo's melee), the game relies heavily on RNG to keep you playing those Parallel Quests over and over until you get the loot you want, the computer AI is often pretty poor with exception of a few bizarre cases like the Android 17 & 18 tagteam which can be genuinely impressive at times in terms of teamwork, stats are tied to armor appearance so if you go for style, your character's going to be bit underpowered, restoration items make PvP really irritating because sore losers can just pop an instant big heal and the timers are not long enough to account for that, and the absolute overreliance on giving bosses super armor and AI Super Saiyans infinite Ki to make them harder.

This too, projectile spam breaks the PvE content because the AI just walks into it

Getting specific items and skills, unless you get them in a store, is a literal roll of the dice. IIRC some of the missions have semi-random conditions on top of this, which further complicates things.

It can be very frustrating if you're trying to get very specific stuff. Say a full set of an outfit, where each piece is randomly given out every time.

That is nothing short of amazing, especially those NA numbers.

There's still no localization announcement for Super...

Still grinding for chichi's outfit from like PQ...2 ;_;

Ah okay. I'm really not so far into the game but some of the imbalances are kind of visible already. I suppose it will get old eventually but for now it's fun enough.

Mechanically, melee launchers into ki beams feel great, at least.

To get some items, not only do you have the standard RNG drop after mission, but to get >0% chance at the item, you must complete secret requirements during the mission to unlock a secret ending fight of sorts.

Even when you fill the requirements, the secret ending fight coming is still RNG based.

So, RNG for the secret fight happening * regular loot RNG = bad time

It was a perfect storm of it coming out when Dragon Ball is heating back up due to nostalgia and the new movies, people wanting games for their new systems, and it actually being the best DBZ game since the Tenkaichi games nearly 10 years ago.

Plus, who didn't want to create their own Dragon Ball character and fight with and against all of the characters? I was willing to overlook a lot of its flaws based on fan service like that alone. I'm definitely looking forward to Xenoverse 2.

I just wish they would go back to the Budokai formula Or I could dream we could get a Super Dragon Ball Sequel.

Despite all my issues with Xenoverse 1, I'll still probably get the sequel day 1 if I see any significant improvements

Speaking of which, did you know that doing the starter ki blast volley ultimate, when used right after a melee attack, like as a follow-up to knock back, makes that ultimate move track?

It's not great damage, but it's wonderfully consistent damage.

I'm happy to see Dragon Ball succeed, but this game was super disappointing. Mechanically they were on the right track with Raging Blast 2. They just needed to build off that. I understand this is Dimps and not Spike, but even Dimps has made much better games.

I expect the next game to sell even better with the Dragon Ball Super hype going on.

This reminds me that I need to grab the season pass while it's on discount.

Also, this -

No! But I stopped using that volley ultimate pretty soon after getting others.

Not home now so I can't check the move name, but the AI is quite stupid when it comes to those close range, high damage but slow casting AOE ultimates. Have been cheesing with one of those.

I agree from a fighting perspective, the controls are clunky as hell and fighting is ok. Everything else about the game I think was great. If the fighting used Raging Blast 2's system but improved and included the hub world that Xenoverse but expanded with more things and the ability to run, fly, and actually group parties in-game and interact with other players online it would be the perfect Dragon Ball game imo.

In many ways this game is very, very broken and unbalanced.

But none of that stopped me from leveling my guy up to the max and sinking many hours into this game.

I love this game.

Story = great
Fan-service = amazing.

Also I will agree with the grinding. I wouldn't mind it if they made it a bit more simplistic but the odd's of getting certain things in the game are outrageous.

Basically with some Parallel Quest you have to get a secret ending which is RNG even if you complete the requirements and if you do get that secret ending there is still RNG to even get said item if you complete the secret ending correctly. It really bogged down on me and made me quit after I leveled my two characters up to max.

For the most part though I still really enjoyed the game despite it's flaws and hope the next game has an increased budget to allow more for the game and hopefully they fix the RNG aspect or completely remove it tbh.

I'm willing to take a half-baked combat system for one game. The first Tenkaichi and Budokai games were also horribly janky

Yup. It's a 30 hit combo too

Made a funny stamina-drain build with it once thanks to a Z-soul that has % chance to drain 2 bars of stamina on any hit

and these dipshits still don't have a dub in the works, look at those NA sales
I'm still waiting for the rest of Kai tbh. What a fucking mess. Do we even know what's been happening with Buu's saga for Kai and Super's dub? Has literally no one talked about it publicly?

:(

hot damn,

how does this rank with the other dbz games sale wise?
Pretty fucking well. Tenkaichi series numbers, if not a new record

Some Dragon Ball shipments:

[Japan - Europe] Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi (PS2) - 1,367,000
[Japan - Europe] Super Dragon Ball Z (PS2) - 466,000
[Japan - Europe] Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2 (PS2, Wii) - 1,825,000
[Japan - Europe] Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3 (PS2, Wii) - 1,460,000
[Japan - Europe] Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit (PS3, 360) - 730,000
[Worldwide] Dragon Ball: Raging Blast (PS3, 360) - 700,000
[Worldwide] Dragon Ball: Raging Blast 2 (PS3, 360) - 580,000
[Worldwide] Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Tenkaichi (PS3, 360) - 700,000
[Worldwide] Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z (PS3, 360, PSV) - 620,000

Please note that these aren't lifetime totals, just the last known available data.

We're missing US sales for those titles that were published by Atari. I've been doing a bit of research and the only thing I have found is that Dragon Ball: Burst Limit sold around 930,000 units, isn't that too high for just one region?

I heard they're sitting on the Buu saga Kai dub. No idea when it'll come out. Seems like they haven't even started Super.

Absolutely stellar, I'll repost what I said in another thread

Congrats.

They should really do a Naruto game in lieu of Xenoverse wherein you insert your own custom-made character into the storyline.

20 million lifetime sales, at least.

Personally, I could never finish Xenoverse due to the awful grinding but I'm always happy to see the IP and Bamco doing well.

Good start from the series. The game is pretty good but has a lot to improve, which I'm fine with. Still found it one of the more enjoyable DBZ games in years.

I hope this series goes the same quality curve as Budokai 1-3. So much potential in this series, could be the best DBZ game ever if they continually improve it like Budokai.

Playing the game is very fun. Grinding it is less so with some areas particularly more frustrating than others.

The fact that the item you want might be a chance drop from an enemy that has a chance to appear if you meet the obscure conditions is kind of bullshit in design. Acceptable for one or two secret things as easter eggs but just for shit in general? Come on... The amount of times you meet the conditions only for asshole character to stay dead and not revive or NPC not come flying in for the event trigger and the mission ends is frustrating.

Also. Fantastic numbers and well deserved despite the grind. I look forward to a second one, hopefully with improvements across the board.
