Most games are universal, working on both iPad and iPhone. The iPad only games are usually ports or strategy games that really need the larger screens. And even then many iPad-only games go universal after launch. I don't think you'll be missing out on much

Always helpful More_Badass ;) thank you.

Got a chance to play Imbroglio, and yeah, it's going to be another Brough hit. Card game/roguelike isn't actually accurate. It's more like 868-Hack and Power Grounds had a baby. And there is deck building, but you dont draw "cards" from a deck. Instead the cards form the ground tiles of level, and you use the effect of whatever tile you're standing on. So basically, you have a lot of control over strategy and synergies. There are different characters, each with a special skill and certain restrictions that change what cards they can use. And of course there are other intricacies as well

Lucky. I love Brough games. Is there a beta that is public, or did you get some sort of pre release access? Probably my favorite developer on iOS

With my aging Ipad 4 I was wondering if installing the latest iOS would be worth it or rather a source of even more slowdowns ? I stopped updating at 9.0.2...

Excited for this, May 19 is some time away. Have to say that I'm not a fan of the aesthetic. Much prefer 868 and Helix's glitch-chic. Maybe it'll grow on me.

It's been (many) years since I was so addicted to a non async multiplayer game, courtesy of Clash Royale.

What a great game, probably the only free to play game I ever played so intensely.

Besides being a super fun and very deep game, what really set it apart for me is the great matchmaking so no matter how well you are positioned in the charts (big whales included) you are always against someone that you can beat.
And if you don't, the next game or so is easier.

Fallen London has just been added to the AppStore. I can't seem to figure out how to post a link from my iPad though :/
I've been looking forward to this for a while.

Having trouble with the link but Pang Adventures is out.

Been interested in this for a while. Anyone know of any differences between the console (also out this week) and mobile versions of the game?

I really hoped it would be premium. The monetization looks aggressive from the photos.
Failbetter talks about their thoughts and approach to F2P here

More at the link
Failbetter nearly went out of business a couple of years ago. StoryNexus didn’t work out for us, we weren’t getting any more client projects (the Last Court was the last) and I had to lay off half the team, all of them personal friends. Sunless Sea has done pretty well, and we’re growing, and we’re in a good place. But that near-extinction left me determined that Failbetter’s priorities would be safety, fun and profit, in that order.

Priority one: we want to be sure we can stay afloat. Priority two: we want to keep doing projects that we genuinely enjoy – which is the whole reason we’re in this business. And thirdly, money’s always nice, but that comes last.

Games are a hit-driven business. We don’t know how well our next game after Sunless Sea will do – the games industry changes wildly every year, and we are competing with entertainment leviathans and passionate, ambitious indies. So we’re spreading our bets. The great thing about Fallen London is that although it never covers all our costs, it gives us a steady and reliable income every month as long as we keep feeding it content. This gives us space for experimentation and polish elsewhere . If our next game flops – which could happen for reasons completely outside our control – we have a bit of breathing space. If we mess with Fallen London, we risk losing that breathing space, and alienating a long-term, loyal fan-base who’ve grown fond of this approach – a game you can play in five minutes in a browser tab at work.

Fallen London is staying F2P because we’re not after a quick buck – we’re in this for the long haul. This is, of course, the same reason that our monetization strategies are about the most gentle and polite in the whole industry, which is why we’ll never be rich. Industry consultants point and laugh at our bizarre strategy of earning money by making new content.

You guys really should look at Pang Adventures. I had never played a game in the series but it's kind of like a mix of bubble buster, brick breaker and Space invaders with a wide variety level design.

While it's published by Dot Emu, it's a Pasta Games game (Pix N Love, Rayman Jungle Run, Pix the Cat among others).

Bargain at $2.99 for over 100 levels as I'm sure the PC and console versions will be more expensive.

I used to play Pang on the Amiga 500 many years ago. I forgot it even existed until this post :) It was one of those games I used to play as a kid because I didn't have anything else, But it was still a lot of fun. I will definitely pick this up.

Speaking of Supergiant, I spent most of last night playing Transistor.

I think it controls a lot better with a touch screen. The Apple TV plays okay with a controller (I'd play it on my PS4 if not for iCloud) but I really like the touch interface of battles. Maybe I'm missing a lock-on button or something. But on the iPad Air, performance is a little poor.

It's really a great game though, and I really do think the game benefits from touch.

For me that's part of the charm of Transistor. It's not a very difficult game but it starts both thematically and gameplay-wise without much ramp-up.

I do really think the game is more confusing with a controller though.
Plays best with a mouse/keyboard IMO. Sometimes the touch controls can get in the way of precisely aiming your dashes or movement IMO

Are we still expecting something big App Store-related this week?
Doubt it, probably just a continuation of the WWF partnership with maybe a few more apps adding IAPs for the cause.

Anything left to look forward to for the rest of the month? Not up to date on what's releasing over the next week or so.

I thought it was last week that Apple was suggesting to devs to hold off on releases? And the "big" thing ended up being the Earth Day stuff?

I mean it truly did screw with exposure of new releases like Warbits.

Anyone else check out Tormentum?

On my wish list for now.

Anyone else playing Pang Adventures? First Pang game and hopelessly addicted. Some of those levels are tough. Really need to think out your strategy and use of power ups or risk being overwhelmed with bubbles and an untimely demise. Great stuff.

Fans of challenging TDs should grab Onion Force, which is currently free. It has amazing animations (designed by an ex-Disney cartoonist), but don't take its casual look to heart. This is a tough game.

It has the "hero" approach from games like Kingdom Rush, but your use of said hero is much more integral to success in this game.

Great game.

Spellscribe is a really fun, simple game that ramps up quickly in difficulty. You are given two rows of seven tiles, and need to spell words with a minimum of 3 letters to defeat enemies. You want to defeat the enemy before their attack counter reaches zero and they attack you. The catch? The tiles are static, and you can only use a word once. When you have 7+ enemies to get through, the game becomes pretty strategic as you need to save your longer words for tougher enemies. You gain coins for defeating enemies and a chest of coins at the end, which you use to upgrade your weapons and armor. Pretty straightforward, but it's a simple game with a very, very, very fair F2P formula, at least early on in the game.

My one complaint is there is no button to rotate the tiles. I am slightly dyslexic, so my eyes go cross when I'm trying to find a new word before the attack timer runs out. A rotate button would be invaluable.
