Gears of War 4's PC-exclusive features detailed

No surprise here, people in The Coalition worked directly on development of Unreal Engine 4. This was one of the big reasons I was hyped for Gears 4 before I even saw any gameplay footage.

A shame Play Anywhere isn't available for retail version, I would've liked to test those settings out a bit, it's seems pretty awesome and extensive.

I don't know how the game will present any challenge at all with mouse support. I love CSGO and Overwatch on PC, but the slower nature of rolling and shotgun gameplay shines on controllers and actually presents a consistent challenge.

Anyone with experience with the GOW1 port on PC wanna chime in?

The real thing holding me back from Windows 10 marketplace isn't the market itself, it's that most games formally categorised at Xbox One exclusives have run like shit. If this ends up beinga good port I may bite.

Glad I bought UE for PC. It'll be my first gears game to get me ready for this. A shame 2 and 3 won't be on PC to give me some backstory.

They should do a "controller only" queue so that I can play multiplayer with my Xbox friends. Just cut mouse and keyboard support in the game and if it detects a Xbox controller then I can jump in.
That would be cool, but with PC being a PC I could see people modding their way around restrictions like that.

This shit is what I like to hear.

I want this for future Play Anywhere games. Not like I'll take advantage of it, but my friends sure will when they're around.

Problem is, something like that might be exploitable. What happens when someone figures out how to trigger aim assist while using kb/m?

It will be still Xbox One port though :( Can't wait for Scorpio ports.

Also in multiplayer?
This is what the gears website says:
Crossplay opens up a wider community to play with than ever before across our co-op modes. Here’s what to expect in Gears of War 4:

Campaign: Play co-op campaign across Xbox and PC. Your saves and collectibles transfer to both platforms, allowing you to pick up the action regardless of which platform you play on.

Horde: Fight the Swarm alongside your friends and find new allies in matchmaking from either Xbox or PC.

Versus: Train up your skills in Co-Op Versus with friends from either platform. To preserve the competitive nature of Gears and individual balance for each platform, Crossplay is not enabled in standard Versus multiplayer.

Well, on one hand that would be a pain in the ass for online play like is sometimes the case on certain titles, on the other hand, it would mean someone was able to do non-file related modding on a UWP, which would make some pc folks happy.

every time i read "unlocked fps" or "not capped at 30" as a bullet point feature for a pc game i die a little inside.

The dynamic resolution is the interesting bit for me. I was wondering if that would ever come given that some people on budget systems could make use of it. Or rather people that can run the game 90% well enough but there's always a portion that runs bad on their hardware.

I see it as a good thing. Make it known that games which are locked or capped is a negative.

I have the game on PC and I play it with mouse and keyboard controls remapped to a Steam controller. Let's just say that the Steam controller is amazing verses an Xbox One controller, especially because of the mouse aiming. Headshots are a fucking breeze. I say all of this as someone who used to put a ton of hours into Gears 2 and 3 (the things I could have done with a Steam controller back then lol).

Thank you. This is good "news" as I plan to play multiplayer on Xbox and it would suck to play against M&K.
Great to have cross play coop though.
I wonder if games like Forza will have cross play multi, it would make sense.

Forza Horizon 3 definitely will. It was shown at E3.

Gears of War: Ultimate Edition says hello, i won't be so optimistic.
Different engine though, and the one which is actually designed to work on modern hardware.

What are the chances of a 680 running at least multiplayer

On lower settings? I don't see what might prevent it. I do wonder though if they'll keep UE4's D3D11 renderer in (apparent) addition of a D3D12 one - 680 have a lot of chances to perform better in D3D11.

All MS has to do is put out solid ports on the Windows 10 Store and they'll get buyers. If the Anniversary Update truly makes the store more usable, that is.

I believe any game made before 1997 is "essentially cave man art."
That would be cool, but with PC being a PC I could see people modding their way around restrictions like that.
Modding in UWP?

Sounds like one of the best PC ports in history.
Considering that Gears Ultimate Edition was one of the worst PC ports in recent years, this is something I would be very hesitant to claim, ignoring the fact that we're judging this on a bunch of claims from an unproven developer.

DX12 allows you to run AMD and NVIDIA cards together if implemented, I want to see that in Gears 4, don't think a high profile game has implemented that yet.
