I like this for numerous reasons.

1) Eliminates software drought. Nintendo can't support two libraries.

I only does this in the sense that all handheld games can be now played as console games as well. This doesn't increase their output at all.

Easy ports on much weaker hardware? What? You will get no ports.

Did you even read the chip article? How about OsirisBlack's comment about it being able to handle Ps4/XB1 ports with. "Little to no problem?"

If the chip is the X2--and I'm willing to bet it is, based on active cooling and fan in devkits and the delay--this could easily handle ports.

What? It effectively eliminates software droughts. No months-long Wii U droughts while 3DS gets games. No more 3DS droughts so Wii U gets games. Steady stream of releases for one system means no droughts.

The nonbelievers who kept saying "IT'S NOT GONNA BE A HYBRID!" .. Where are you now?

I'll wait till I see an official release from Nintendo before making a judgement. I've seen leaks proven to be false before.

Nintendo's focus on local multi now expands to...portable local multi. A really easy console to bring around places because it's also a handheld.

I love Nintendo. I hope this works out for them. I like the idea of a "reverse Wii U" and even if power is compromised, I know that they'll get as much out of the hardware as possible.

And going by 3DS third party support, I think this will work out better than trying to get devs to develop specifically for handheld and an underperforming console.

Good stuff. I need to read more. But this is clearly Nintendo being Nintendo. Trying something different. And I'm down for that. I'm also happy that they're trying to offer a simple marketing message.

Interesting, but I suppose this is Nintendo's best past forward. They were never going to go toe-to-toe with Sony and MS.

The thing is that this means all Nintendo teams will work on the same system so as a Nintendo gamer that is like the best thing to ever happen.

On the other hand, I'm not really a handheld gamer. The games I do play on my 3DS I play at home. So a sacrifice in power would kind of suck.

Could the docking station beef it up, allowing for higher-res output at home? It's the main thing the leak tells us little about.

Ahh at last. Been hearing rumbles a leak was imminent.

What an interesting concept. The rumor from a few years back were bang on it seems regarding a hybrid.

It's potentially a very clever move on Ninty's part. Differentiates strongly against the main consoles becoming a very viable second or accompanying console as well as unifies their first party teams on one piece of hardware instead of two. Pokemon may finally be coming to a "console"!

The only rubs are power (altho I wouldn't be surprised if ninty was also moving to an iterative console) as well as resolution.

I really hope it's 1080p on TV!

Please dont be region locked and Im in day one.

Edit: oh no backward compatibility? Time to plan on a Wii U then. If this gets confirmed, Ill order one. Already own 3 Wii U games without the console.

Micro SD cards are super cheap right now. I don't blame Nintendo for going the cartridge route.

The 3ds has cartridges, this isn't the 80's physical memory is super cheap now and can be be tiny in comparison to what they used to be.

I'll still wait for the official reveal.

But no backwards compatibility? Well if that's true I guess that's a good reason for all those rumoured WiiU ports to get released (meaning a 1:1 Smash port without extras is much more likely IMO)

Well since Nintendo doesn't have to develop and publish for two different platforms at once yes, it will increase their output. You also won't get times where the handheld gets a few good games a month whilst the console gets nothing.

this doesn't sound good. my excitement for the NX has gone down considerably. maybe it will make more sense when nintendo officially show it off.

so this is how we'll get a console pokemon adventure

vita proved to me that I still do enjoy mobile gaming, so this baby should pair nicely with my ps4

i need details!

250 for the handheld unit? 400 for the tv dock and controller addons?

The power level thing is bad enough, but if this is actually gonna be a console/handheld hybrid, then that means Nintendo will be designing all their games with handheld sensibilities in mind. Which is terrible for people like me who don't do handheld gaming. :/

Based on the description this device is capable of being played by two players on the same mobile screen. That makes it a mobile console of sorts in that mode of play.

Just gonna share what I put on Twitter:

@Ubermatik: I'm worried about the durability and build quality of NX... And that's a first for me regarding Nintendo hardware.
@Ubermatik: I'm also skeptical on this hybrid design. I feel like few will hook the system up to their TV/home base without significant incentive.
@Ubermatik: Right now I feel like Nintendo should have just planned a portable system instead of aiming for hybrid. But we'll see.

The idea of playing BotW on the go or in my bed is opening my wallet already. Now just don't be too expensive. For $199 it would be a no-brainer but I guess it's around $249

This sounds very much like what I wanted. A console I can take with me on trips without lugging around a monitor, and all Nintendo games will be developed for it instead of for two different platforms. Might be my first new Nintendo console since the SNES.

How little they know? I didn't say one way or the other, but Nintendo straight up said (hell I think it was Iwata who said this) that NX wasn't a hybrid. If it is in fact a hybrid you cannot blame the people who simply took Nintendo at their word.

The patents regardless along with the chip set basically setup it to be a portable console. Just because Nintendo said one thing didn't negate people from describing it to be something else.

And all those ndf followers called people like myself stupid for using common sense with the rumors, info, and patents.

So yea they were totally wrong.

Wow so this basically covers the handheld segment in Asia , the home console in the west in just one product? Smart I say!

Edit: I just thought how this forces the Pokemon game to be updated to the modern times! Yesssssss! Now a real 3D adventure
