Touchscreen?
If so, how would you access those functions when docked?
Not pleased about this at all. I do not care to play any serious immersive game like a Metroid Prime on a handheld.
A multiplatform OS is a good idea..a hybrid device is not.
You combine the costs of a handheld and console... making a more expensive device that doesn't satisfy the needs of either individual market.
Again, the mistake you seem to be making seeing what the NX might be, what Pokemon Go is, what their mobile stuff is, what the NES Classic is, what their recent theme park and movie deals are and not seeing "refocus". If you can't see some pretty big changes to the way Nintendo is going about business compared to, say, 4-5 years ago, I don't know what to tell you. This is why I keep talking about people having narrow views of this stuff. Just because they aren't doing it exactly like Sony, or exactly like a "traditional console company" should or has done for the last 20 years, you can't understand why it could be successful. There's more than one blueprint to success.
The real question is why Nintendo thought that anybody would want to copy this.
This isnt only a handheld...Well there you have it....I'll wait for it to release to get a cheaper WiiU for Zelda....I haven't enjoyed handheld gaming since gen 2 of Pokemon I'm officially out.
Even if it's not b/c, I guess it could use the pro controller, yeah?
LOL why the fuck would Nintendo partner with Nvidia AND Amd?
10k is losing it.... what about Super Metal Dave? Our original leaker?
It's got a goofy wow factor though I think. More than "you can use a touchscreen to play!"The detachable controller thing alone will confuse the shit out of people
Well, if Nvidia gave them the better deal on a mobile chip, and AMD gave them the better deal on a home console chip, and there was a low-level hardware-agnostic graphics API around they could use for both, then maybe they would.
Not that I think they are, but who the hell knows with Nintendo.
No one wants to game on a handheld thats not a phone Nintendo...
Ill get it because, I get every console, but still. Not too excited about this.

Oh god SuperMetalDave going 10k in this bitch

Is it really plausible that they have a Nvidia Tegra Handheld and an x86 Console SKU?
WTF thats quite the stretch
If that were the case 3DS wouldn't be the thing propping up their business. There'll still be a reliable market among gamers too young for phones and people here in Asia's train commute-heavy culture.
Digital games with this console is going to be so nice. Truly getting the benefits of handheld and consoles together. No need carrying around multiple cartridges for games yet still portable AND still playable on the big screen???!! This console has the potential to be amazing....
I dunno, but I reckon a ton of people said the same thing before Wii launched.
Sony doesn't have to do anything they lead the console market currently. And seeing how well they are doing, I dont see them making a console hybrid, maybe a companion device though.
Even if it's not b/c, I guess it could use the pro controller, yeah?
It's just weird, it's like they are looking at anything that will bring them profit instead of anything that would help them climb back up to relevancy with core gamers.
The real question is why Nintendo thought that anybody would want to copy this.
I am not saying their changes can't or wont be successful, it's just I don't see the future of Nintendo AAA games being on a tablet/mobile type device especially when console gaming is still very huge.
It's just weird, it's like they are looking at anything that will bring them profit instead of anything that would help them climb back up to relevancy with core gamers to help build upon.
I think just the aesthetic of it will scare consumersIt's got a goofy wow factor though I think. More than "you can use a touchscreen to play!"
The power level thing is bad enough, but if this is actually gonna be a console/handheld hybrid, then that means Nintendo will be designing all their games with handheld sensibilities in mind. Which is terrible for people like me who don't do handheld gaming. :/
It could also have simply been an imprecise translation. If we're talking about the "brothers" comment, I almost feel like that was just a hypothetical comment and wasn't necessarily an indication of what NX would be. Hell, I could even say he said it to throw people off about what it is. It's not like he was going to say what their new system was right then and there.
It has been yes, but not as much as of late
I just cant see a cozy, convenient handheld that can run these games. Just doesn't seem possible.
Really?
But MonHun's always sell 4 Million...
...and Pokemon...
...and Yokai Watch...
Oh, let's look at the latest Japan Sales...
They want to if it's good.
And how long did the Wii actually last though? Till what 2010 in terms of relevancy?
I know power isn't the main thing, but to be honest, this thing needs 3 things.
*An external GPU in the TV dock: It needs to be on par with at least the PS4Neo IMO
*An actual controller. - I'm really worried that the controls are gonna be like wii motes where you have to hold each control stick to play
*It needs to be easy to develop for. - Simple, easy. Does anyone know or have an idea on how easy this might be?
I'm also interested in the name, wonder what that'll be.
inb4 Portable Entertainment System. PNES

In the same answer where Iwata said it's not a hybrid, he did say multiple form factors were an option. So NX = Nintendo Cross?
Given Nintendo's comments in the past (adamant that NX is a home console), I kind of wonder if there will be multiple NX systems, with different form-factors and power, and the games just scale performance to the hardware (N3DS could be considered a lite test run of the concept for their teams). This would be the handheld NX, which can turn into a sort of ad hoc home console, and there might be a less portable more home-oriented device later on.
