No, can't find any factories anywhere. Tempted to go to the third solar system. Not sure what to do. Kinda bummer.

Try this:

Get to the nearest space station and buy electron vapour from one of the npc's in the ship runway area. When you leave the spaceship you should then get a waypoint pop up telling you which planet it is that has the manufacturing plant with the recipie in it.

Only after I bought that item did it trigger the mission to get the recipie for me.

Ah that gives me some hope.

Just out of curiosity have you tried using the scanner while in your ship off-planet? That's how I got the signal to pick up both the hyperdrive and antimatter recipes after switching from pre-order ship to a better ship that didn't have the hyperdrive in the first system.

Is there a quest log, If not this game needs one.

Some of the progression is gated by moving to new systems. So people who stay on the sam planet and system forever may have some issues.

So I had a distress beacon marker in space and when I flew up to it (I can't seem to stop and stay in place) there was nothing.

Has anyone encountered anything like this and what did you do?

Sad only made it 20 hours. But raised over a grand for Cancer Research and for the first time in years had a good number of gamers start to really be interesting in game design.

Congrats!

I got a distress signal or whatever and it was to protect some ships. I had to make sure I wiped all the sentinels attacking the ships.

interesting, that's one of the items you need for the recipe, though you can craft it as well. I don't think suspension fluid can be crafted unless there's a recipe out there somewhere.

I arrived at my first beacon but didn't visit a space station first. The game tells me to hold square but nothing happens... Has anyone run into this issue?

Yeh it tells you it's one of the items needed in the item description. I came across it by chance when trading with one of the npc's and though "that must be it, let's buy it and see what happens" and voila, it triggered the waypoint. Before that I was searching every damn planet and couldn't find anything.

Turns out it was on one of the planets I had already been on but it was on the other side of the planet to where are the other waypoints were. Like a good 8 minute flight round the other side.

Great planet though mind you, the first planet I've found with water on it and it was 25/26 degrees. However, Despite the earth like conditions there was zero life on it.

what active quests do you have again?

Go to galactic map and warp lol.

Will try - thanks!

I use a scanner with my ship, but nothing ever shows. Do you need a ship specific scanner? I don't have that yet, if so.

I went into this thinking it was going to be a "total sum of its parts" type of game but I gotta say I am not enjoying a single thing about it. It literally puts me to sleep when playing and that FOV is just tiring, yikes. I would like to think it might change with more time with it but I really cannot stand the visual style including the frankenstein fauna and it just seems like what "gameplay" there is on each planet is basically going to be rinse and repeat. I somewhat knew what I was getting myself into but I would not purchase it again after the experience I've had to this point. Loved the concept. Oh well.

Please don't lynch me for this but I have been on media blackout for this game but I just wanted to know if there was a storyline/campaign to this game.

In the sense that it has a start and finish along with the Minecraft-esque mechanics. Or if it's just a ridiculously immense sandbox to play around in.

so far, pretty sandboxy. I will say, there was trailer that used the phrase "every trade tells a story." Which is kind of bullshit, but makes it seem more likely that story is minimal, unless you make up your own narration.

Whatever you do, don't go into the thread regarding the multiplayer "issue". It's the carnival of stupid over there and is frankly embarrassing.

I just came back on here after a 2 hour stint with the game and went to post how much of a good time I was having and how I found my first planet with water on it then realised I was in that shithole of a thread.

It's best all that rubbish stays in that thread to be honest. I'm glad it exists.

I don't think so, I have not done any upgrade to the ship scanner. Not sure if it is range related, I was scanning from near a space station to where the scan seemed like it could hit ~3-4 planets.

Lmao you have a point there.

I had a straight 4 hour session earlier. And same again for yesterday too. Haven't had a game that keeps me stuck to my TV like that since probably Deus Ex: Human revolution.

I don't think I've ever seen people actively frothing at the mouth at the idea that there may be a flaw they can pick apart the game over before.

So uh, I landed at a trading post, went off to explore, came back, and now my ship is hovering several meters in the air and is too high up to reach, even when I max the distance I can go with my jetpack.

Advice, anyone? I was enjoying myself until my ship told me to fuck myself and stranded me here.

Find a beacon that can summon your ship to your location.

Good luck!

The first time I booted up the game, it froze on the title screen. I believe that's a record for me.

I had it crash once too just after the title faded and it was just showing the stars. I think it is related to it trying to connect to the server on startup, as when I rebooted and tried again it failed to connect to the online service the second time.

Find one of those landing pads at a trading post and use a bypass chip to call your ship back to you.

My ship doesn't even have a scanner as a module lol.

oh... crazy, do that I guess by buying the antimatter if you have to, and you'll probably get the quest since you will then be out of antimatter?

Guess I have no choice...

OK so I have a question that contains early game spoilers,

So at the beggining when you pick to be guided or to freely explore, it seems to restrict where you can warp to. Does this keep throughout or will I eventually be free to go where I please?

Man tell me about it. The entitled gamer syndrome is in full effect over in that diseased thread.

Had a quick look just and they are now looking at how many people are playing NMS on steam to determine who is in the hello games office. Ready to hate because someone said they are probably in bed. But no they are working on the pc version at 1am it seems. I feel sorry the chaps!

I thought it was restricted but if you press R1 or L1 it goes into "free move mode" and you can warp as much as your hyper drive lets you.

Exactly.

Many of those people have no interest in the game anyway, they just like the "drama". As soon as something else crops up they'll move on.

Unfortunately with everything being so online focused, and the importance of social media, everything seems to be analysed, and everyone becomes an armchair expert.

I think it's a pretty minor thing to be fair, the multiplayer aspect was never close to being a core experience of the game, but there are people out there that look for anything to jump on someone for.

I played for over six hours last night after my son went to bed. He's 10 months old. I don't play games for six hours. That's not supposed to happen. And don't even get me started on the fact that it's rare for a game to hold my attention for more than a two hour session.

This game is absolutely astonishing. I woke up and it's all I can think about.

Hmm did not know that!
I wondered why some star systems nearby I couldn't warp too!

I have no idea why a unique indie game with huge potential is attracting so much hate. You'd think this was a cookie-cutter Ubisoft launch with two years of fake footage leading up to it.
