Considering PS3, PSV, 3DS, Wii U, PS4 launches in Japan I think that scenario of companies moving all their projects exclusively to NX is rather unlikely.

Especially when they have code and assets to reuse but maybe they will make PSV/NX/PS4 release (at least I'd do it to slowly start building userbase there).

Hmm plus no matter how much we like our Vitas we will sooner or later (2-3 years) have to make a decision too since Sony is not going to release Vita2.

Either we will migrate to NX or go ios/android

At least all rumors point into direction of solid 720p screen and above Wii U performance in portable form so in spirit it should be closer to PSP/PSV than to Nintendo gimmick instead of solid hardware philosophy.

Actually there's another choice that i hope will be well made and successful

I just searched Google for any God Eater 3 NX rumors and nothing... Where was this rumor from? And what about it hinted at God Eater 3 being a NX game?

From the usual place, reddit. It was one of those stupid rumors anyway, similar to those MH5 is in development for NX, but it kinda made sense to me. It was about Namco going all in on NX and had several games in development including Tales, Naruto and God Eater franchises.

We'll see how true those rumors were in few days.

Was it not this?

God Eater was never specifically mentioned, just that Bamco were developing several titles.

I honestly don't know what I'm going to do when Vita kicks the bucket. It honestly takes up like 95% of my gaming time these past few years, with like 2% for PS4 and 3% for PS3.

I suppose I'll just migrate to PS4 if that's where the nichey Japanese stuff is going, but I'll have to see what NX has to offer.

Remote play everything. Then despair when PS5 comes out.

That's my plan anyway :p.

I just plan on playing through my Vita backlog, even when the Vita finally gets discontinued I'll still have so many games left to play that it'll probably take me another decade to clear!
Case in point, today I ended up with a Breakout clone called "Hello Kitty Block Buster". Its actually really addictive, trying to get S/A ranks is going to hoover up my time.

Digimon World Next Order is PS4 only in west. Damn I'm so pissed off right now. I'm seriously considering quitting my job if my contract allows me so.

I guess we can rule out Ys 8 and Toukiden 2 Vita versions now.

Wait, why no Ys 8?

Just kidding. But seriously I don't understand why Namco bring it only for PS4. Who in the world have 80+ hours free at home to play this? Plus being PS4 only in west kinda makes its online mode region locked. Makes no sense at all.

yeah i'm afraid xseed will skip vita version of ys 8 too, localization is only gonna start after the release of the ps4 port and that might be too late

we're still gonna get tokyo xanadu and caligula so i'm not so upset

but it really is weird, we just got 2 god eater games both on vita and ps4

Wait wait wait......Digimon World Order is seriously PS4 only o_O?

It DID come out in Japan on Vita and that version ran well (meaning we won't get a Nights of Azure situation)....so why not localize it :l. I feel we are missing something and it will be a later announcement or that Bamco Europe forgot to mention the Vita platform.

Very strange turn of events......

Their excuse is that the PS4 version is "greatly enhanced":

While the original Japanese version of the game for the PlayStation Vita had 50 sub-quests, Bandai Namco Entertainment and developer B.B. Studio are including about 120 sub-quests after feedback from players.
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/new...eads-overseas-on-ps4-with-english-dub/.106455

I have a feeling the Japanese Vita version won't be patched with this new content. I wonder how those players are going to feel when Bandai Namco asks them to buy the PS4 port for the new material. This game got a lot less post-launch support than CS did.

Welp, guess I will add that to the list of 'PS4 games I will never get/get far later' alongside Gravity Rush 2 & Nights of Azure.

Shame to hear that but oh well. Thank you for explaining the situation Takao.

I really don't think they'd leave Vita version unsupported after this. There is an online mode, and if game is coming to PS4 in Japan too, they'd update it to cross platform play, just like they did with Cyber Sleuth. If the changes are that "greatly", then they would need to update the Vita version.

We'll see about Vita's status in west after platforms for Toukiden 2 and Atelier Firis are announced.

Who even knows if the PS4 version winds up in Japan. Bandai Namco's western PS4 ports have a spotty release history over there. J-Stars didn't see a release over there. Godzilla did. Digimon Story: CS didn't see a release over there. Tales of Zestiria did.

Actually, I guess they could now pull a SAO: Director's Cut and release CS/N0 PS4 as a bundle in Japan.

If PS4 version won't get a Japanese release, then online could be region locked in west. Games that don't allow play with Japanese players are the worst.

I really hope they change their minds in the future. Operation Decode is a pretty effective organization, they can reach out to Namco about this. Till then, I'll show my support by buying every Vita release they bring to west (SAO Hollow Realization is their only upcoming game I believe).

Huh...first time i've heard of this. I doubt it'll see widespread adoption in Japan, let alone in North America, but if it works fine as a 720 portable Steam substitute, I might pick one up.

Isn't that scam kickstarter ?

Plus with the way pc games are coded there's no way to run them properly on atom at 720p

What Kickstarter are you referring to? I found an Indiegogo for it, but the link seems to be dead since nothing pops up when I click on it.

EDIT: Works now. Doesn't seem sketchy considering the company behind it appears to have a bit of a track record with developing for this niche, though I did find a Kickstarter for another dubious project: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1606226331/portable-console-for-pc-games-pgs/

I'm disappointed about Digimon. I guess CS must have sold like crap in Vita if they're dropping the Vita version for the next game.

Wow. You have got to be kidding me about Digimon.

It finally felt like we were getting a bit of a stream of good Vita news, yes it was all Japanese and from TGS but at least it was something.

And now Bamco, who imo have been one of the best Vita supporters in the west in recent years, decide to stick the knife in? Can't believe it.

Except I can, because it's a pretty normal situation to find myself in as a Vita fan these days.

Oh well. Have Bamco SEA said anything yet? That may be our only hope.

edit: Nvm, Bamco SEA only doing PS4 version

Platform with a significantly smaller userbase still gets you half the sales of the bigger one.

Am I missing something?

I couldn't really tell if that was a good result or not. I certainly have no interest in the LE but will be buying SE for Vita.

I can speak for me and some of my friends which are all big Vita fans. But they can't afford it due the high shipping costs and customs. I guess most of the buyers are in the US because of that. Not sure how well the Vita is doing there. From my experiences many die hard Vita fans are in Europe and of course in Asia.

The Digimon announcement deserves it's own thread or am I missing it?

As a LRG fan, you know that the Vita release usually sells out faster for Limited Run Games releases.

You're really trying to spin this as a bad thing huh

Anyone who expected to Vita LE to sell better than the PS4 LE is mad. This is a great result for Gaijinworks and the Vita LE

By your logic every Vita game (or even Vita LE) that doesn't sell better than the PS4 one is a major surprise and a failure.

LRG is LRG, which is also very friendly to international users. Different situation.

Anecdotally, I bought directly from Gaijin once and never will do so again.

I'm sure you can also understand the difference between $25 LRG releases and $100+ LEs and why it's harder for people to jump on the higher priced release. The 2 are not comparable at all and you know it. Really not sure why you're trying to spin this as a bad thing when there wasn't even going to be a Vita LE in the first place. It selling even half as well as the PS4 version is great.

I dunno if true, but gematsu comments say that digimon isn't good, it has way less digimons than cyber sleuth, the story can be finished in 8 hours and it's a technical mess...
Even if true it still remains a bad news though.

I've heard less than stellar things too. Vita performance is supposed to be arse, on top of poor graphics (check out not bullshot screens of the handheld version) and on top of that, the game itself isn't supposed to be too great.

With that said, I really don't give a damn and want this game. Import impressions of Lost Dimension seemed mixed yet I loved that game. Impressions of Exist Archive are average and yet I'm insanely excited for that. And the thought of having a new Digimon World game on a handheld is just incredible, I really want it.

Lookit:

I even arranged my background to include Next Order. I've done this for most franchises I like that have 2+ entries on Vita and thought to myself "there's no way Next Order isn't coming over after how well Cyber Sleuth did!"

I cursed it didn't I? Might just import to fill out the bubble haha.

Please let's stop once and for all this fiction that they are $25 releases. They aren't. Some of them cost me over $60 (having bought all of them directly from LRG). And none of them are Collector's Editions in the sense that they are pretty much barebone releases. So comparing their price points directly is just unfair.

This GaijinWorks LE is a one-time-thing, whereas LRG releases are more like "part of a set". So, people approach it with a different mindset.

To Vita fans and collectors the SN6 WE is part of the Vita library and something they will judge on its own merits, rather than comparing it to the "value-for-money" of a potentially $60 copy of Thomas Was Alone.

Yet I do think you can compare them since they are both limited Vita releases and there is also a PS4 release of the same game. And with LRG Vita fans have shown a willingness to prefer the Vita release over the PS4 one.

I think that gajinworks is a little pissed because the vita LE edition wasn't originally planned but they did it because of the high demand.

Anyway it's written nowhere that the vita version has to ALWAYS sell better than the ps4 version, especially in the west and considering that the LE costs 115 dollars(unlike LRG games that cost 30 dollars)

Why would they be pissed? It's very little effort to throw in a Vita copy instead of a PS4 copy into the LE and by simply offering it they increased sales by 50%. Some people would have chosen PS4 LE instead of course, but not all. It's "free money" for them.

This is in no way a bad thing and and I don't think that tweet is suggesting that.

If you went by install base of the consoles in NA, Vita should sell 15% of what PS4 does (numbers pulled from my butt), all things else being equal. But that's not the case, so how is this not a good thing?

Probably. It's probably not worth it to them. The different European rating systems all cost money, and eat away a substantial part already of potential profits.

Yeah, that seems to be the case indeed.

It isn't. But it seems that Vita fans have to be addressed a certain way before they break the bank. LRG's model of slightly-cheaper-than-retail releases that are available almost immediately after ordering does seem to do the trick. Having to pre-order a lush Collector's Edition about half a year before it releases, doesn't seem to work as well.

I don't think that another version of a LE simply means putting a version instead of another, i guess there's some bureaucracy, some reorganization, some costs and other things, obviously i'm not saying they are losing money, but maybe the result is a little underwhelming for them.

I think for starters they have to put every single SKU through an approval process at Sony. So it's probably not just a matter of "swapping the game box".

They weren't planning on doing a Vita LE at all, so expectations couldn't have been that high.

Whatever the case don't make it bigger than what it really is, a version selling worse than another and/or lower than expected happens all the time. nothing is guaranteed.

I know I've been a downer on Vita in the past and undoubtedly will be again in the future, but it really has been a shitty year for Vita announcements huh?

- Chronos Materia cancelled
- Crows Burning Edge cancelled
- No Digimon for Vita in the west
- Energy Hook cancelled (bullet dodged on that one by the sounds of it though)
- Four Sided Fantasy cancelled
- Hyper Light Drifter cancelled
- No I am Setsuna for Vita in the west
- Moon Hunters cancelled
- No Nights of Azure for Vita in the west
- No Nobunaga's Ambition for Vita in the west
- Never Alone cancelled
- Not a Hero cancelled
- Space Dave cancelled

Of all of the announcements I think Digimon hurts the most, it was the one I was most looking forward to. Hyper Light Drifter and Nights of Azure really suck too.

Just need Koei-Tecmo to pick the scab off by announcing Toukiden etc. aren't coming and Atelier Shallie won't get picked up lol.

(Don't get me wrong, there's still been plenty of awesome announcements too - wasn't expecting Caligula; Gio picking up SNK games is ace; Sekai Project finally getting on board is great etc., it's just been a bummer of a year).
