Price Rumors

Android Police

Pricing for the smaller Google Pixel phone could start at $649, but financing will be available

We are giving this rumor a confidence rating of 6 out of 10. It loses a few points because, while we know and trust this source, no one else is able to corroborate the pricing at this time. Also, pricing can change at any point before release. Additionally, the source cannot provide us with any primary material to back up the claims.

Previous rumors pegged the larger Pixel XL with a starting price of $649, but our source says that's not the case. It's the smaller, cheaper 5-inch Pixel that will start at this price. This will most likely be for the base storage model, presumably 32GB but we can't say for sure. Google's Daydream View headset will be available for these phones, but the pricing on this is less solid. The last our source heard, it was priced at $80, but it's possible that will change before launch.

Our source says that there will be Pixel financing options available from Google, which is a good thing if the Pixel XL is even more expensive than the Pixel. This is Galaxy S7/Note7 pricing territory. The financing won't require Fi, but we don't know in which markets it will be offered. There will also be accidental damage coverage plus another year of warranty available for both phones—$99 for Pixel and $119 for Pixel XL. Google will sell a variety of clear and colored Google-branded cases for each phone as well, more than we've seen for Nexus devices.

The phones will be sold on the Google Store, we've been told, so there's no worry of Verizon exclusivity. Verizion is apparently Google's exclusive retail partner that will sell Pixels in-store. We're still hearing three colors for the Pixels—blue, aluminum, and black. The blue will allegedly be really, really bright too.

Supposed Specs

Pixel - 5" 1080p AMOLED, 821 Snapdragon, 4 gig LPDDR4, 12MP Camera, 32 gig base

Pixel XL - 5.5" QHD AMOLED, 821 Snapdragon, 4 gig LPDDR4, 12MP Camera, 32 gig base

Like I said in the last thread, I really hope these phones are the best phones of this year if they're going to cost that much. The amount of features you get with a phone like the Samsung Galaxy justifies the high price tag, if these phones just have stock Android they aren't worth the price.

Also I hope they look better in person. That white color in the leaks look atrocious. If these things are glossy instead of matte I will be pissed.

so it has a physical home button on the front, but a fingerprint sensor on the rear?

what the fuck?

There is no physical home button, the bezel is just big. Hope they have a good reason for that considering it looks like nothing is there.

I'll keep this OT updated as info trickles out, and hopefully the mods can lock the old thread with the old leaked pricing.

Looks like a cheap knock-off of the iPhone 5 design and will cost almost as much as iPhone 7. Congrats Google.

Well, just another Nexus/Google Phone that won't be sold officially in Brazil. I don't even know why I get excited.

Thought Emoji Movie was good. Take that as you will.
650? Good luck with that Google... even exploding Note's won't make this super successful at that price point.

Official invites went out and the time is 9 AM Pacific in San Fran.

I added the time to the OP along with a countdown timer.

I'm gonna be real pissed if my phone choices this year are between the most lackluster iPhone in 9 years, A super expensive Nexus and a phone that explodes. Might just buy that Amazon Moto G with ads and punt another year.

Wait Verizon has retailer exclusivity?? I thought I read somewhere a couple weeks ago that T-Mobile and AT&T would be carrying this phone.

If I have to pay Google $650 upfront to get this phone, I'm out.

Will have to see how hardware is if the price points are real. I feel like my 6P is still pretty much perfect and was almost a bit of a steal. I would go smaller, that I will say. This is just a tiny bit much.

There's no way they can reasonably launch at $649; they're not Apple or Samsung! They lack the brand cache for such a ballsy move, especially considering that their last few phones have been in the $300-$400 range.

Samsung actually invest in the Galaxy brand. Google keep change their phone brands like they change the message app. Nothing will stick.

That's because Google's marketing strategy is ass. If they actually tried than they could get it to stick. Constantly changing shit won't fix anything.

I'm confused by this. Google's phones have been branded as Nexus for seven years? This would be the first time it's not a Nexus since the G1, I believe.

That's correct. Google's biggest problem is it sucks ass at marketing anything, not their branding.

If you don't have stereo speakers then please get rid of the huge bezels that make it look ugly/bulky. I don't *think* I see a speaker grill on the bottom so it's a bit perplexing to leave them so large.

Still looking forward to the official reveal. There might be something interesting in there.

Gonna keep my 6P though especially if the starting price for this thing is on luxury level lol.
