ReCore |OT| Rock Your Core for a Prime Bot

When Destructoid asked Microsoft where Tanky went, they responded with this:

So likely coming as DLC. I'd guess probably free DLC, given that the Tank appears on the box art and everything.

I'm seeing somewhere in the region of 8 hours for story only, and you could easily double that for explorers. I spent a lot of time exploring and doing side dungeons and I'm at around 20 hours.

Exploring is the fun of this game. (There are many others too.) It's like people ignored the message after they beat Pylon 512. It specifically says to explore Far Eden. Maybe they should remove the constant main objective on screen so people take their own path and play it the way intended by the developers. I don't know. But I do know that this is the most fun I've had playing and exploring in a game in a llooonnnggg time.

So having now done the dungeon in the quicksand-protected section of the Crucible (thanks for bringing it up Dreamcast210!) I've learned that the Tank frame's gimmick is actually
speed
. Going by the way that dungeon works, it seems like you might even be able to
fire your rifle while riding the tank along platforms and over ramps.

Fun!

Exploring was definitely a big highlight for me. I think Lonely Basin might've been my favourite area, and arriving at that section with all the different areas stretching out around me was an exciting moment.

Just picked this up tonight, about to start it. Any tips for a newby?

Sure!

1) Joule's movement abilities are your greatest ally. Try to master her jumping and dashing abilities (including the ground dash + jump + second jump + second dash) chain as soon as possible, as it'll let you access all sorts of goodies more easily.

2) Explore! The story content is great fun, but there's loads of good times to be had in optional dungeons and various interesting areas around the world. Finding these places will also reward you with materials and prizes to upgrade your bots and make the journey less taxing.

3) Mix things up in combat. Just holding down the trigger can be dull, and it isn't the best use of your tools. Burst fire, use your charge shot, have your corebots use their lethal abilities and switch corebots regularly. And don't forget that while attempting to extract an enemy core won't work if they have lots of health, it will interrupt their more powerful attacks.

Have fun!

I'm not sure if it's a sign of rushed development or insufficient testing but sometimes it's just downright amusing:

Yikes, looks like she fell into some hellish alternate dimension. I was kinda surprised that I never encountered any kind of "falling through the world" bug, especially after I'd heard so many stories about other players hitting them all the time.

Speaking of going places you're not supposed to, it turns out that by way of some careful dashing, jumping and gliding you can get across the quicksand area shown in the red block here:

7Xbc.jpg

There's not much to see on the other side other than the previously unusable door to the next area, and even that remains locked once you arrive on the other side. So really there's no good reason to go there besides idle curiosity.

Damn, I was hoping it was the signs of whole area that got cut last minute and would make it in an upcoming patch.

This looks pretty neat. As someone who enjoyed games like Mad Max, Far Cry 3/4 etc.. Is this worth the buy?

Doesn't seem that way unfortunately. I'm not sure if there's any other areas locked-off by quicksand besides the rocket and this one.

I wouldn't buy it purely on the basis of liking those particular titles; it's probably more similar to PS2-era action platformers like Ratchet and Clank than it is modern open world games.

I'd suggest checking out plenty of gameplay footage on Youtube before pulling the trigger. Wouldn't hurt to read a few reviews too, to make sure the areas it stumbles aren't too important to you.

I say all this as someone who loved the game enough to put nearly 20 hours into it.

Completed the game a few days ago. Overall, I really liked the combat and movement. Everything else needs work. It was a fun game but I don't see myself returning to it for a replay.

Thankfully I got it for a great price so I think it was still worth it.

Yeah I've been there too, maybe there is stuff meant to be there but was cut out. You can climb on the right hand side, facing the door and get on top of the roof, can't go too far though

Guys I'm fighting
Victor Reborn

It looks like he has NO health left, but my damage keeps showing up as resisted? I feel like he's not prompting me take his core.

He just keeps summoning blue fire and 3 minions, I kill them, he floats in the air for awhile, and then chases me around.

What gives?

I had the same thing happen to me multiple times. I think it's a glitch and I'm waiting for the Oct 5th patch to see if it clears up.

I just let him kill me and tried again.

Looks like there is on screen instructions to make your corebots do lethal attacks while you are trying to pull his core out.

Wait, did that work for you? You beat him?

I swear I tried doing a lethal attack.

First time was definitely glitches as it just showed resist

Second time I kept trying to pull his core low on health and it would punt me. Then I tried and did lethal attacks and he went down like a sucker

Ugh. Thanks for the tip, I thought I tried that with Duncan several times after his health was at zero and it showed resist, but I guess my timing was off.

I'm going to wait until the patch anyway to see what they fix.

so the patch came out.. apparently has a ton of fixes in it.. but no detailed patch notes anywhere that I can find..

going to dive back in today!

So now that the game's been out for a while and people have played: Is this actually a Metroidvania? If so, how is it? Breadth of power ups, map design, backtracking for unlockables?

Yep, that's the way to do it. It look me a few tries, but once you know what to do it's not *that* hard to pull off.

Ah, excellent - I'll see if I can get hold of it myself this evening, and see about rounding off my 100% attempt.

"you will experience decreased loading times, see audio and visual improvements, and notice improvements to issues you may have experienced with waypoints, achievement tracking, collision locations, checkpoints and respawn points."

This is what I found to be included in the patch notes. They say it is only for the Xbox version and not the pc version.

Source:https://www.trueachievements.com/n25342/next-weeks-recore-update-targets-achievement-issues.htm

PC patch is already out. Check the performance thread. Also they said w10 update. :)

Hello Far Eden Explorers!

We’ve continued to get great feedback as you play ReCore, and we have more good news to share. On October 5th, we’ll be releasing a significant update to ReCore for Xbox One, Xbox One S, and Windows 10.

In this update, you will experience decreased loading times, see audio and visual improvements, and notice improvements to issues you may have experienced with waypoints, achievement tracking, collision locations, checkpoints and respawn points.

Great news, just stopped playing Recore for a while because bugs, and not being able to backtrack to get missing cores annoyed me (And the missing T8NK, but I can wait for that).

Booted the game now though, (Post PC update), Pylon 512 is saying I have 2/5 Prismatic cores...is that even possible? I thought you have to get like 3 cores to even complete the area and I can't see where I'm missing 3 looking at guides... broke again..?

Steam release maybe? If it's specific to people who haven't bought the game yet, I'm not sure what else it could be. Price drop? PS4 release? Both of those seem a lot less likely.

So now that the game's been out for a while and people have played: Is this actually a Metroidvania? If so, how is it? Breadth of power ups, map design, backtracking for unlockables?

While there's some minor elements of Metroidvania in there (areas gated by abilities/tools you gain in the story) I wouldn't call the game a Metroidvania in general. The story doesn't see you doing any significant backtracking, and dungeons are more often locked off based on how many cores you have (or your level) rather than what tools/abilities you have.

The Xbox One update is out now too - though I'll not get the chance to test out the results until tomorrow evening. Fingers crossed that it's a good one!

It honestly feels more like a Banjo game with insanely well made platforming and super tight combat to me.

A steam release would be nice. Anything that makes this game sell what it deserves is welcome.

I'd say a Steam Release is extremely likely. The IP is handled similarity to Quantum Break, Microsoft will be wanting to expose it as much as possible to build a healthy franchise.

They should really make a universal key that works on both Steam and Win10. Just play wherever you want.

But I guess that's less money so there is that.

Yeah, Recore is not a metroidvania. They could have made it like so with different level design and piecemeal abilities (like you can dash and doublejump from the get-go...), but they didn't and I'm glad.

In a way they already "lose" money with Play Anywhere, you buy only one game to play on two platforms (when you have to buy non Play Anywhere titles twice to play on Xbox One and PC).

They just want people playing on their ecosystem.

I think Play Anywhere titles might never arrive on Steam as is (partly due to Xbox Live), or at least not before many years.
Or as a separate release like Quantum Break (not a Play Anywhere title but it's as if it was, as it syncs saves and achievements), but the Steam version is on its own, not connected to Xbox Live at all (no save sync, Steam achievements only).

It is a 30minutes demo.

Haven't played since getting the third robot buddy, seemed like the game wanted me to slowly run across a huge desert then had me stuck below climbing points because i'd brought the wrong robot duo with me. Odd design choice not being able to use all the robots at once. I was enjoying it so far but feels like it's missing a vehicle or a continous boost ability to get around the huge areas full of nothing.

There's a checkpoint next to the cliff, you can teleport back to get the right bots and return. Annoying, aye, but there are ways around it.

As for traversal, that's the largest area but it's not empty. Exploring throws up quite a lot, once you dig in to the region. Boosting around is a quicker way to move.

Just played the Xbox update. Loads up quicker for sure. I'm in the shifting sands area just exploring. Seems like there are moments of some frame drops or screen freezes right before an autosave happens.

Did they add a rising beam of light to crates? I don't remember seeing that before.

Also, when I'm in the Crawler crafting and stuff, there's a good close up of Joule. Did they make her hair more red?

Ok, it seems I downloaded a 5gb update that the only thing it does is to put an rainbow on the chests XD

Loading times are still in the region of 40-60 seconds for me, and it didn't solved the game breaking bug I had.

Guess it's time to start over from scratch.

Adding some kind of effect to chests was sorely needed, glad they included that.

So that demo is confirmed for both platforms? I'm writing something about the game now and it'd be nice to include that.

edit: saw the news post, good news

Loading for sure improved on Xbox One. Not sure what the exact time is. But its not hitting that feeling anymore where you say "Come on!" :p

Are achievements still bugged in this or has a patch fixed?
A lot of the "number/count" achievements stopped registering for me and it really bugs me as I think it could have been my first 1000gs game

I logged back in after reading a post on reddit and like 5 achievements that were bugged popped for me once the game loaded.

Hey guys, playing the trial on PC. I can't change the resolution from 1620x720 no matter what.

I am playing on a 3440x1440 monitor, so it looks terrible. Anyone know how to fix it?

I think it's locked in the trial. You can change it in the full game.

Anyone know if the progress from the trial will carry over with a physical copy of the game, or will I have to buy it digitally?
