Steam Reaches 13.1 Million Concurrent users

You may notice it has been a while since one of these threads. From what I could tell, After reaching 12 million, Overwatch happened and numbers dropped by about 2 million. Took around half a year for the numbers to pop back (I assume a combo of growth and returning users).

For contrast:

5.01 Million concurrent users were reached on the 2nd January 2012
6.04 Million concurrent users were reached on the 25th November 2012
7.19 Million concurrent users were reached on the 1st December 2013
7.67 Million concurrent users were reached on the 29th December 2013
8.02 Million concurrent users were reached on the 29th June 2014
8.50 Million concurrent users were reached on the 2nd January 2015
9.06 Million concurrent users were reached on the 15th March 2015
10 Million concurrent users were reached on the 14th June 2015
11.1 Million concurrent users were reached on the 31st October 2015
12.2 Million concurrent users were reached on the 3rd January 2016

Also here's a look some of the peak stats:

But Nzyme, how many are grandmas who have forgotten they're logged into their 15 CS:GO smurf accounts?

Never gets old.

But it starts up with PC's tho?

Nor this. Also on this topic, the drop that occurred when Overwatch launched kind of proves that at least those folks do not choose to set their Steam Client to open on start up and stay logged in (even though it isn't default anyway)

Awesome! I love that PC Gaming has gotten bigger, along with Steam! In 2015 and 2016 we saw major launches of games that peaked over 100K players at times like Grand Theft Auto V at 360K and Fallout 4 at 470K!

Neat, a side note, I didn't expect COD4 Remaster to appear so low?

You have to buy the legacy edition of Infinite Warfare which is £60 to get Modern Warfare Remastered and you can't buy it separately.

So far Infinite Warfare is like the first COD to launch on PC with under 30K players at launch, the five COD games before it launched with 30-60K+ concurrent players.

Cod is dead on PC

COD isn't exactly dead, nor was it in the the past, the concurrent player numbers just happen to fall off by quite a lot after a few months.

People also have mixed feelings for Infinite Warfare which has made it the worse COD PC launch in terms of player numbers in years.

If Modern Warfare Remastered was separately purchasable there would be a ton more players.

Shame that No Man's Sky was the biggest launch of the year thus far. Launch peaks:

No Man's Sky - 212,321
Civ VI - 162,314
Xcom 2 - 132,677
Dark Souls 3 - 129,831

If those concurrent numbers are correct, they really left CS:GO falter. Valve really need to care for their games more.

Or - its that those players are playing other new games that have come out. I would usually play CSGO on a Saturday, instead we were all pissing about with Civ VI.

Nice Skyrim numbers! I finally fired up the remaster and was pretty impressed. Characters still looked like shit, but environments were lush.

Then I went back to my modded version and what a difference. I forgot just how nice it looked all modded up.

I'm a little surprised Dragon's Dogma didn't make the list. Maybe it'll show up being in the Humble Monthly Bundle.

It's holding pretty well considering the onslaught of major fps games that released this year. I'm sure it'll recover in time.

Counterstrike is supposed to be an evergreen lifestyle game. Valve has slept on CS before, in inexplicable ways (especially during the eSports boon). I'm not trying to spread FUD, but Valve should really put much more energy on this game.

Honestly, this comment doesn't make a lot of sense if you've been paying attention to CS:GO 's development/support at all.

Hah, that new COD got rekt.

lol, I like that it's getting beaten by 2 of the 4 (!) Football Manager games in the top 100.

Netcode and feature wise, the original cod 4 is superior on that front. Graphics and new price point isnt worth the lost of community dedicated servers, browser, and quality of life features that disappeared when console focus took over.
Well they're hardly asleep - http://blog.counter-strike.net/index.php/category/updates/

Whether or not you like the extra content, updates, Inferno's return etc, is up to you
One intern isnt enough. They need to up it to dota 2 support levels.

It's not dead, but the game doesn't appeal to the demographic so modern versions haven't found as much success relative to the console versions.

That's ironic considering Valve supports their games for a decade.

Well considering the bitchfest that occurred over the Blizzcon opener...

That's fine. But for a hot flash CS:GO was neck and neck with Dota 2. And comparing between their involvement in both titles in terms of outreach, it becomes disheartening for CS. Believe me, I've played CS since whatever indiscernible betas I prowled in PC cafes, to the 1.5-1.6-Source addict i would become, playing the game in exclusion of everything else. I don't doubt the game won't last, I just feel Valve don't do it justice.

Holy shit, that growth is consistent... Consistent with the number of uncles doing prank installs of Steam and grannies using Steam to steam out their viruses.
