Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Trailer

This trailer is like the first trailer for the first movie with the prison, it showed nothing of the plot but mostly stuff from the same scene with the giant alien monster, the swarm and some small tidbits here and there.

I'm really amazed that they've dropped two trailers and have yet to really show any of the plot of the movie so far.

The first one wasn't a trailer, it was a short sneak peek (which most of it's content is seen in this trailer).

Please do not make Mantis the obvious secret villain who bites it in the end Marvel. You need some universe apart from the main characters by now -.-

I was pretty cold on the whole trailer, but then that last gag completely caught me out. Good stuff.

Eh, I don't know. Lot of the jokes fell flat. Also not a fan of the scene with the team seeming to fighting the big CGI squid monster from Force Awakens in the fake-looking CGI environment. One of the things I really liked about Guardians of the Galaxy was it's relative commitment to practical effects and set design. I hope the sequel doesn't toss that out of the window as a means of delivering a more "epic" story.

Also, I find Mantis's physical appearance a little unnerving. Freaks me out!

This was wonderful, though.

Bautista was such a bland wrestler. I'd love to see him back one day, but with a Drax gimmick. Then again, maybe not. He'd have to job to Reigns

Appropriate in regards to studio politics

I find it interesting that Suicide Squad used Ballroom Blitz by Sweet and now Guardians is using Fox on the Run by Sweet.

Probably coincidental but funny considering how people compared the reliance on music in Suicide Squad as a (failed) attempt to ape Guardians of the Galaxy and it's use of music.

Ehhh...not really seeing how it is interesting that they used a song from the same band.

Interesting coincidence is all.

Two movies about a band of motley folks with heavy use of music, except one did it well and the other did not (in the film that is), end up using the same band for different songs in marketing. Especially a band that didn't have a bevy of US hits like Sweet.

Well it doesn't do much to the film if the music is just thrown in to the movie with the next song coming after every 2 mins (mostly at the beginning when they are still in prison), unlike in GotG where Gunn used a lot of time searching and putting the right music in the movie and during the shooting as well.

One of the reasons the music fits so well into the story is because Gunn included the songs in the script. So how did he go about deciding which ones would work best? The first thing he was looking for was accessibility. Essentially, he wanted the tracks to be semi-familiar — ones you recognize but might not be able to name off the top of your head (the only two songs that didn’t end up applying to were those by David Bowie and Jackson Five).

...

“I started the process by reading the Billboard charts for all of the top hits of the '70s,” explains Gunn. “I downloaded a few hundred songs, and from that made an iTunes playlist of about 120 songs, which fit the movie tonally. I would listen to the playlist on my speakers around the house — sometimes I would be inspired to create a scene around a song, and other times I had a scene that needed music and I would listen through the playlist, visualizing various songs, figuring out which would work the best.”

...

“When you see the characters strutting down the hallway to ‘Cherry Bomb,’ they were actually strutting down the hallway to ‘Cherry Bomb,’” says Gunn. “‘Ooh-Ooh-Child,’ ‘Hooked on a Feeling,’ ‘Come and Get Your Love,’ and more were all played on set by our marvelous sound team. I find it helps the actors and the camera operators to find the perfect groove for the shot.”

And this is why it isn't an interesting coincidence...it is just Gunn digging music of the era.

Don't know how, but Gunn pulled it off. Looks even more boring than the first one, which is quite an achievement. It all looks so lame and the humour feels so forced (and just isn't funny).

Dr. Strange will remain the best Marvel movie.

Based on your aweful opinion of GotG I'm glad I've chosen to wait to see DR Strange until it's available to rent

I am really liking that marvel has finally decided to put some focus on visuals. Really loving how this and doctor strange look.

I've never understood the complaints that the movies look like TV films or something, but I would definitely agree that visually they've been stepping it up.

Hope Thor: Ragnarok is a visual treat too.

I just realized they probably showed Ego in the trailer.

The alien thing is actually his brain. One of the stories featuring him was the FF disabling him by taking a nuke into his center

I was thinking something similar.

Also..
The scene where Starlord is shouting at Rocket about the tape.. that looks kind of like an eye lid. Obviously that'd be too small for what we normally envision Ego as, but that is an interesting shape to note.
