We know for a fact that the Phantom Dust shown during reveal didn't exist - that trailer was made by an external team without the devs' knowledge.
Microsoft was way too trigger-happy with their announcements.

This is a huge win for me TBH
(Since I've never bought a MS console, never will)
Platimun will probably never, ever make any exclusives with M.S ever again.
So any if not all Platinum games will go to Sony.
It's a great win for me and Sony.

MS could afford one or two loss making projects, and a few cult successes would be good for their brand right now.

Genuine question. As for the missing dead lines thing. Isn´t that like every game ever that got delayed at some point? Or is that something different?
Btw, the senior staff taking off a month due to work load. They were probably working 70+ hour work weeks for some time if they had to take time off. I mean, from everything i heard from platinum is that they stay at budget and are fast, so it would surprise me that they just decided to take time off just cause. The development must have been a mess. Now only the reason for it is missing. Really curious what has been going on there. Keighley! You know what to do.

Indeed I'm sure both are a bit to blame. MS likely wanted a very large Marque exclusive from a developer well liked in the core community. They likely pushed Scalebound to be a bigger project than what Kamiya originally envisioned.
It also looks like that Platinum management did a poor job of handling the project and that they themselves hit huge engine issues. Both parties likely share the blame
Dependant on what the contract terms are, epic Nier sales may not mean more money for them. They get paid whether a game bombs or not in general (I believe)

At the very least hopefully a lot of their mistakes and issues learned during it's development will help make future releases and attempts at something this ambitious much smoother.

There's certainly some truth here. It's much harder to imagine the likes of Quantic Dream or The Last Guardian being as successful with the Xbox consumer base.

It's a shame that several of these big showcase projects seems to be in development hell this generation, with Deep Down, Phantom Dust, and now Scalebound.

This game was the only reason why I was planning on getting a scorpio. Might not get it after all. What's with microsoft lately? they want to step out of the gaming race or something? They only have like three first party teams and nothing promising in the nearby future.

Even if someone could get the IP, why the fuck would anyone want to revive a game in development hell? Money is well spent elsewhere.

They did what Nintendo did right after their new console was poorly received: announce a ton of exciting projects that are super early. Except Nintendo's "vaporware" games actually came out. And most of them are pretty good.
