It can in part still resurface in some form as something else.

MS cancelled their Obsidian game meant for Xbox One, "Stormlands" - a "AAA RPG". That cancellation nearly sunk Obsidian entirely if it wasn't for Pillars of Eternity keeping it up. However, Obsidian got to keep the rights and eventually from that games demise came Tyranny.

Now of course, no idea of this particular situation, but it is possible the rights bounce back to Platinum or at least some of the property. I don't know.

I guess it depends on the contracts. MS could own everything, or maybe just the name, and Platinum swings back with practically the same game but it's third party, a different name, and different character models with voice actors.

I'm sure we won't know for awhile because Platinum probably wouldn't rereveal it until it is ready.
Would be smart and great if Nintendo could just pick up the tab.

Dependant on what the contract terms are, epic Nier sales may not mean more money for them. They get paid whether a game bombs or not in general (I believe)

I can't imagine Scorpio will turn anything around. It'll be super expensive, appeal only to people who already have an Xbone, and have no exclusive or marquee titles to really make it especially appealing. Basically, it'll have every problem the current Xbone does along with the issues of the PS4 Pro and a bunch of novel ones.

Microsoft is a business, they were paying platinum for a good game and after 4 years platinum had nothing to show for it. All of the previews and impressions were either negative or mediocre as well and it's not like Platinum Games sell bucket loads either. Yeah some of the blame can be directed at Microsoft for contracting platinum considering their games don't really sell but lol at trying to pin this all on Spencer.

Stop. This cancellation wouldn't be hurting nearly as much if Microsoft had a good lineup of games in the pipeline. They don't, and that's why it stings, and that's completely on Microsoft and the person who runs its gaming division.

I don't understand how can there still be Spencer apologists after two terrible E3s and a bunch of studio shut downs and project cancellations under his belt. It's truly unbeliavable.

I guess I just don't sympathize with the feeling of loss or the calls for another publisher to save the game here. I don't really love Platinum games (Automata might be the first one I've touched that I genuinely love), and in particular I thought Scalebound always looked off and never showed particularly well. I'd really rather not see Sony or Nintendo or anyone else spend on Scalebound.

The biggest budget one is Days Gone, and that demo didn't look super far along so here's hoping things go smoothly. Starkiller is in that game.
