Windows Central on US December NPD: PS4 sold 1,568,000 (238K Pro), XB1 sold 1,511,000

Just like an iPhone 6 is cheaper and does roughly the same things as an iPhone 7, what's everyone's attention fixated upon right now?

If you market something as the hot new thing well enough, none of that stuff matters

Microsoft would kill for just a little bit of that iPhone hype. That's comparing apples to rotten fish from last year.

People expecting Scorpio to sell anywhere near an Xbox One S bundle that will be as low as $199.99 are kidding themselves. I don't think the ratio will be too far off from the Pro's tbh. And you could even argue that MS has made it less attractive to enthusiasts with capable PCs with the complete lack of exclusives.

The fact that people are believing numbers given by the same guy who does podcast with Crapgamer and tim dog is hilarious. Im sure the mustered something up to say since Gamespot reported that the xbox one has only sold 26 million units.
Again these number are false. You guys really think a guy with his name out there is giving NPD numbers that are paid for? LOL

Good point, i'll wait for confirmation.

Again:
Windows 7 was literally just polished rebranded Vista

Scorpio will be the XB1 equivalent

Why are you comparing Windows to a console? You know MS has a monopoly for OS's right?

Yeah, too bad it's not that easy.
Marketing if done right can help. MS has done a good job at marketing its products and services lately and it has paid off well for them.

They need a good plan to make Scorpio the hot new item next holiday like going to a new phone. It's different but can work.

Newsflash, people don't really care about graphics as much as some people on this site would have you believe.

I hope the whole "mid-gen upgrade" thing is a bust.

newsflash, people used the graphic comparison videos to justify their console purchase as much as some people on this site would have you believe.

Rule number one to any consoles sales discussion should be never compare them to phones.

Effective marketing+word of mouth+sensible pricing are the most vital pieces of success

A $400 console is not going to sell gangbusters next to a $200 one that plays the exact same games. Especially if no more than 20% of households have a 4k TV by the end of the year, and that's being extremely generous and only US-focused.

If Apple brought out a new phone and said that you could only charge it by running 5 miles every day, it wouldn't just automatically turn all of their fanbase into marathon runners. Apple also doesn't really do price drops on their legacy products, they just phase them out. If a brand new iPhone 6s cost $200 it would be crushing it in sales, but Apple doesn't have any interest in selling low-margin hardware.

This post isn't by me, it's by a guy with the same username as me.

But phones and consoles are complete different beasts.

Those that buy a console at launch are the minority, where with phones there's always a rush to upgrade.

Phones are a everyday gadget (and even necessity), game consoles still are something superfluous.

And very important, at least in the USA, phones are mostly sold in a subsidized contract where people pay monthly fees.

It's almost like he has a source giving to them and he's not the one with access to them himself

Still it won't sell any where near a XB1S or PS4 Slim that going to cost $200 with a game.
Do people really think it going to do new gen sales numbers ?

some where on Reddit now saying that crap was telling people that gamestop reporting that the xbox one only sold 26 million is BS. They are saying that he and the window central guy have made up numbers to try and backhand the gamespot article. LOL WOW!

Getting a lot of replies, if I'm wrong so be it, but that's what I really think.

I also believe the way technology is consumed and marketed (laptops, tablets and yes, phones) easily translate into things like consoles. But I get your arguments against me.

All we can do is wait for the future

This fall will be interesting. It's basically Scorpio vs Pro Limited Edition RDR2, Call of Duty bundle, Star Wars bundle (possible Limited Edition like last time), and Destiny 2 bundle. I don't see the Switch making a slash this holiday, but I hope I'm wrong. If I can't get a Switch day 1, I will probably have to wait until the summer because there is too many games from February, March, April, and May that I wan't to play and won't be on the Switch.

Why?

Games are still gonna get made for PS4 so they will be capable of running on xbox one aswell. There's no point making scorpio a next gen console, it's not like the PS4 will get abandoned.

To escape the failure of the Xbox One.

Also it doesn't make sense to hold back games on a more powerful platform just to keep the "no Scorpio exclusives" promise. Let games fully utilize that 6 TB of power rather than holding it back so it can still run on an Xbox One.

Dude unless you have the real numbers and are willing to take a mod check you should probably calm the hell down.

No it won't. But I bet it will do better than the pro, have a more robust supporting library and a better unveil than sonys reveal.

I am not expecting a snoozer of a press conference when this is unveiled fully.

I do find it odd since we stopped getting numbers crapgamer and windows central released them.

LOL

This isn't the 90's. Windows is no where near a Monopoly. It's not even the biggest OS.

For desktops they don't have a monopoly? What

Total BS, they have a monopoly on the PC OS market.

By setting the Scorpio up for failure? lol

Who says they will hold games back? They can pump up the graphics to 6TF for Scorpio just like PC has done for high end rigs, and since all MS exclusives are going to be on PC anyways...

Base XB1 mode
1080p with high end PC graphics
4K with XB1 graphics

Sony isn't just gonna sit on their ass and not market the Pro when Scorpio marketing starts up.

No doubt in my mind they'll start advertising it as a 4K console, with more than "x" number of titles already pro enhanced, and an undoubtedly lower pricepoint than the Scopio, maybe even a bundle. They're going to make things hard for the Scorpio.

Microsoft did a great job with the S release. It's made the Xbox far more competitive in the US than it was previously.

I think that is a decent amount for the PS4 Pro... you have to consider that people are shopping for absolute bargains and must haves during holiday and $230 PS4's are insanely enticing for a quick impulse buy holiday gift in comparison.

The 1,568,000 is PS4, PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro combined, right?

Or be snide and contextually misguiding its up to you

Comparing them is apples/oranges, you cannot equate phones which are basically mass market necessities today, and windows, which is a monopoly for PC's, to a luxury item like consoles, which are niche in comparison to those. That is misguided.
It was pretty obvious that he was talking about desktop OSes and not OSes in general.

Didn't think I had to spell that out

Since when has Jez Corden done a podcast with either of them two...?

LOL indeed...

I think Sony's strategy will be to offer a $349.99 Pro Bundle for the Holidays with either Horizon or GOW(maybe Spidey) and dare Microsoft to show off something that looks better on Scorpio out of the gate.

Thanks, people underestimate the power of marketing and brand image as well. It can make and break you.

You can have a fucking fantastic product that'll never go well, you can have a godawful piece of crap that'll sell tons. The only big differentiating factors is how it was marketed and its price.

Those Pro numbers are...whoa.

So people werent waiting for the Pro. Xbox One was winning those months legit.

But those low Pro numbers don't bode well for Scorpio.
