Windows Central on US December NPD: PS4 sold 1,568,000 (238K Pro), XB1 sold 1,511,000

This post isn't by me, it's by a guy with the same username as me.
Why would i have real numbers? I never claimed that. Im just letting people know that the numbers are fake.

To be so adamant that the numbers are fake you must have some kind of proof that's better than: "lol guys, it's crapgamer. He's a complete jackass".

As I said, the last time this guys reported some numbers they turned out to be true. So, at least until someone with access to the NPD report say that they are really fake we can't 100% say that they are fudging the numbers.

To escape the failure of the Xbox One.

Also it doesn't make sense to hold back games on a more powerful platform just to keep the "no Scorpio exclusives" promise. Let games fully utilize that 6 TB of power rather than holding it back so it can still run on an Xbox One.

That's what the next Xbox after Scorpio is for. MS will likely move to sliding BC and game compatibility for their consoles. So forced Xbox One compatibility will be phased out with Scorpio 2 in 2020/2021 (giving One owners a full 7 years with games, similar to 360), and the 6 TF Scorpio will be the new baseline at that time.

No one is going to build a Scorpio exclusive that will cost 2x as much as a PS4 game and leave out the PS4 fan-base (and literally half of the PC fanbase), it's insanely impractical.

It will run existing One games at 4k (+ improved framerates/AA where available), that's what it's there for, and that's pretty much all MS has marketed it for since its reveal. Oh, and VR, but that's not really a selling point except to enthusiasts.

People are way overestimating it more like it.

Umm yes it is, purely from the PC OS, it is a monopoly and is legally considered one.

The definition of a PC, an OS, and a monopoly with regards to the 90s rulings against MS are almost meaningless. I mean, iPad sales in 2014 were nearly as much as all Desktop sales and Laptop sales combined: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technolo...l-third-successive-year-pc-market-stabilises/

Thanks, people underestimate the power of marketing and brand image as well. It can make and break you.

You can have a fucking fantastic product that'll never go well, you can have a godawful piece of crap that'll sell tons. The only big differentiating factors is how it was marketed and its price.

No better example then the Xbox One S.

I'm with you. People are way underestimating Scorpio.

If people were so interested in upgraded graphics on the same games, they would just buy a PC and play all the games MS has been giving them with Play Anywhere on there.

I think the PS4 pro adoption is to low to be honest.

Does it mean that people are not interested in generation refresh? Or maybe if it had UHD Player it would sold better?

LOL not this again, it would sell the same, it's a high priced console competing with a 249€ SKU with a game in a holiday period, nothing to see here.

this is weird. Are people really expecting 4k systems to sell to the masses? to the hardcore yes. but to the masses? LOL wow.

I cant believe people actually think these 4k system are going to outsell the cheaper base models. LMAOO! WOW!

Let's not get into the PC vs. Console comparison.

The New 3DS mostly supplemented the old 3DS even though it had a pretty high price point ($200). More expensive models tended to be more popular last gen. Are home console owners not interested in iterative consoles, or is the Pro just not seen as being worth the investment? I would've expected core gamers who care about graphics to carry it a bit more than this in its first two months at least.

The Pro and Scorpio are meant to supplement sales and cater to the enthusiast market. Neither is intended for mass market the way the Slim PS4/Xbox One are. I'd be very surprised if Microsoft took a loss on units sold for the Scorpio. Its clear like Sony they intend most of their sales to come from the slim models, targeted at people who are price/budget conscious.

cute that folks are trying hard to lump scorpio with pro. scorpio is fall 2017 guys. enough time for folks to get 4k ready for real unlike pro's half-assed checkerboard attempt.

So phones and OS's are ok?

Most people won't even see the difference or care, it's cute you think they will. Price > Resolution. Scorpio is a pro, period.

Oh ok i see. so we believe numbers from anyone as long as they are given? Got it. Disregard my post then.

If these numbers are accurate then PS4 Pro being one-fifth of the total PS4 sales seems pretty good. Will be interesting to see if it can maintain such a ratio going forward.

edit my math sucks

1/7th is OK.

Getting a lot of replies, if I'm wrong so be it, but that's what I really think.

I also believe the way technology is consumed and marketed (laptops, tablets and yes, phones) easily translate into things like consoles. But I get your arguments against me.

All we can do is wait for the future

Except those devices you mentioned are viewed as being far more integral than consoles. In fact, the primary consumption method for 'games' is these devices, cell phones in particular. Consoles are a far more niche product with a much more specific value proposition for the larger market.

MS' original pitch for the X1 was equivalent in trying to make it seem as integral to consumers as some of those other devices, and it was handily rejected. The tech 'leap-frog' consumption method has very little overlap with why consoles are even purchased. The PS4 Pro sales are very indicative of this.

Am I the only one that thinks the Pro sales are ok? Not mind blowing but considering its price and this is during the months where people look for a bargain it seems ok to me.

We're people expecting it to do new gen console type numbers or something? Its only a refresh of the current hardware.

Not "these 4k system", just the Xbox One Scorpio.

Because it's special.

Comparing them is apples/oranges, you cannot equate phones which are basically mass market necessities today, and windows, which is a monopoly for PC's, to a luxury item like consoles, which are niche in comparison to those. That is misguided.

Nope, that Vista argument is entirely valid.

It's absolutely correct that Windows had a monopoly, but the vital detail you're conveniently missing is that 'Windows XP' was the primary used platform, not Vista. When Vista was released, people didn't want to touch it. Rebrand Vista into 7? Suddenly its great, everyone wants it. 7 takes the mantle of the most used OS in the world.

Consoles are not necessity of course, but they're barely the niche forbidden jewels you make them out to be. They're just as sought and known as many other pieces of mass market technology in the same price range, all of them susceptible to the powers of marketing and pricing.

Anyone with any business sense would say these numbers are pretty good.

The vista comparison is not valid at all. PC OS's are essential, thus Windows is, consoles are not, and MS has tough competition in the console business, not so with their PC desktop monopoly.

I'm saying MS will get off to a better start and have more momentum for Scorpio than Sony did for the pro.
Why would they get a better start when they have to deal with a console on the market that is similar in power (as similar as Xbox One is to PS4) that has many more titles enhanced for it already available at a lower price and possibly bundled in with a game?

For what the product it is and the position its in, I think the Pro has sold well

Yeah Scorpio is a totally different mid-generation hardware boost. It's nothing at all like that half-assed mid-generation hardware boost attempt that the other guys crapped out.

15% in a super price-conscious month seems perfectly reasonable. What kind of split did folks expect? We may see a slight uptick in future months, but nothing big.

specs is total new gen compared to base x1. call it mid or what. it's a much better refresh than the pro.

Would be interesting to see the differences with Europe.
There are parts where it's constantly sold out, once a new shipment is there.

Despite the lackluster offerings on streaming services, prices on 4k TVs when you compare them to the US.

Scorpio already has games enhanced for it too right now, do you think support for Scorpio ends now and no game releasing from now till Scorpio will take advantage of it? Every game using dynamic res will take advantage of Scorpio automatically (Witcher 3, Battlefield 1, Halo 5, Gears 4 and others). I wouldn't be surprised if the vast majority of upcoming games run dynamic res just to take advantage of Scorpio without any additional work.

Also MS already said they aren't locking down older titles, so it's possible that most titles on the system run a little better like what happens with the S But they haven't guaranteed any improvements on that front.
