5 Calls: Representatives, issues, and scripts in one place

I posted this in the thread concerning this immigration ban/detention going on right now, but oftentimes folks wonder what they could do to make sure their voices are heard if they can't protest but feel simply re-tweeting and posting on Facebook isn't enough.

https://5calls.org -- Upon entering your (US) zip code, will locate your local representatives (I got my US Senators but perhaps Congressional reps too), their phone numbers, and scripts to help you voice the issue you're calling about (you're likely going to end up leaving a voicemail and sometimes their voicemail box is simply full).

Also included here is an explanation to why calling is effective https://5calls.org/#about

They have a Twitter page also 5 Calls

I'll bump because this is a great idea. I live in NYC so I'm kinda preaching to the choir in regards to my representatives.

Also

Although you may find it easiest to always call the Capitol switchboard at 202-224-3121 to reach your senators or representative, you can also find the direct number to any member's office by consulting the Senate phone list or House phone list

Its important to call your representatives and make your opinions known. EVEN if you have a Senator that agrees with you on everything, call them up and let them know to be more vocal and that they have your support.

I typically hate calling/talking on the phone for anything (don't feel comfortable doing it) but I'm gunna bite the bullet because of this thread. Even though I live in California.

Sounds like calling is much more effective than sending in an email.

I can't watch this shit happen any longer.

Thank you OP.

I called both my Senators. Im in Arizona was able to leave a message for McCain but Jeff Flakes box was full. Ill keep trying.

edit: Also if you are new to this you can leave your name and address and they should send you a written response. Its usually just garbage about how they hear you blah blah blah but make them send it anyway.

I weirdly freeze up on the phone so I know how you feel. It's cool of this page to kinda help compile stuff for people in this way. People should feel represented and know they do have a voice.

Definitely not a lost cause. Our Senators still need to understand what's important to us even though we agree. And it helps them when they make their case:

"I've received 5000 calls from my constituents in the last 3 days denouncing this immigration ban."

Helps them when they argue.

For sure. Good on you. :) I'm just about to call.

Fantastic point.

I tried leaving voicemails for both of my representatives, but one's box was full and couldn't leave one for the other. I'm gunna try calling again during a weekday.

I wrote emails to both about this issue and included my personal feelings about it (maybe this will help others who are calling/writing):

Congressman (removed),

My name is (removed) and I'm writing you today as a concerned resident of (removed). I tried leaving a voicemail, but your inbox is full.

I’m very disturbed by Trump’s executive orders which are intended to round up and deport unauthorized immigrants and ban refugees. Our national immigrant policy goals should focus on compassionate immigration reform, a path to citizenship, and effective refugee programs.

When I tuned in to the news and social media today, I was thoroughly appalled to see U.S. residents, with legitimate green cards, denied entry into the United States due to baseless assumptions about who they are and where they came from. As many as 134 million residents may be impacted by this new executive order. In addition, other countries around the world view this action as hostile and are already responding with negative countermeasures.

I am writing you to send this message:

We ALL need to publicly stand with our immigrants and refugees, and protect them from these severe and short sighted measures AND prevent further erosion of U.S. relations with other countries around the world.

Thank you for your time.

Unfortunately, I only have 3 people I can call here in PA... & Senator Toomey never answers his phone or cleans his voicemail (I had to restort to contacting him via Facebook post). That said, I'll keep at this daily!

This thread should have WAY more activity.

You aren't wrong. Many of the people "enraged" by this stuff probably didn't vote, either.

That said, I'm making all of my calls. I've already called in and sent emails in the past week, but I'm all over this, too.

This website is definitely helpful. I'm in NY and the lines were jammed for both Schumer and Gillibrand's D.C. offices. I found their local office numbers but both of their voicemail inboxes were full.

I didn't get any information on the site about my Congressional representative but found their office numbers. D.C. office had a full voicemail inbox too, but I was able to leave a message at the local office.

What happens if you live in Texas or something and your reps probably support slot of this shit....

I live in Texas too. Still do it. Even if they know you'll never vote for them, they'll have toconsider that so many people who probably weren't voting at all before seem eager to now.

Be sure to remind them about Trumps 20% tariff idea. That will effect us bigly.

Good luck though. Cruz and Cronyn aren't great about clearing their messages. Last few times I've called it's been full.

Thanks for this, I called my senators, though one had a full mailbox so I'll have to try him again.

Being from Kansas I don't have much hope that they would actually have the integrity to stand up to Trump even if they were pressured by their constituents, but it's worth a shot.

Sorry if bumping is frowned upon. Just seems with this flurry of news and stuff dropping today, people who feel concerned and frightened should have a place to voice those concerns and let the right people know.

Full boxes for both Michigan numbers. At least both of them have been vocally critical of Trump's policies. Will still try again.
