Horizon Zero Dawn Spoiler-free Impressions (for real this time)

It did until reviews came out. it was hyped all the way from reveal until reviews.

No, dude. Most comments I remember were things like, "Yup, that looks like a 3rd person shooter!" There wasn't a lot of excitement for it once it looked like it was going to simply be a cover shooter.

I still found it fun, but it didn't set the world on fire.

You can be merciless in your critique if the gameplay goes below engaging for stretches. :)

Not sure why it's okay to form an opinion on a game from vertical slices from the publisher/developer but an actual consumer streaming the game is an illegitimate option of forming an opinion. People endlessely fawning over this game and ignoring its flaws are probably turning more people off to it. Still am eager to see how the final copy reviews and how its received once people get their hands on it.

Not sure what you mean. I directly addressed the concerns from the stream. I didn't dismiss them.

"ignoring flaws"

Try again. It has already been acknowledged that human AI is serviceable at best. There are also other minor issues in the impressions in the OP.

This was cute though.

Edit - first post.....

I literally just looked at the old threads today and 90% of it was how amazing everything was.

Looks like people looking forward to this one will have a fun time.
Sounds like Horizon really is everything to everyone.:p

Review thread for this will be special.

A stream is a fine way to inform one's opinion.

Getting the impressions of someone whose seen the same footage as you have is a redundant step that really doesn't serve much value here.

And 4chan too, so even less of a reason to care.

So what does this have to do with Horizon? If you're agreeing that people were overly hyped for the Order and then when they actually played it the negativity started, it's been all positive for Horizon so far.

The Order preview Hype + The Order hands on negative impressions do not = Horizon preview hype + Horizon hands on positive impressions

How much of an RPG is this game really? I've heard that it's more RPG than Fallout 4. Is it obvious that the New Vegas devs helped with the game?

How "twitchy" is the gameplay too?

From what I've read, Fallout 4 is still more RPG. More loot, more branching paths, etc.

Edit: but it seems that Horizon has much better side quests, both in structures and writings.

People trying to compare the positive early remarks of Horizon to those same early remarks from the Order, need to get off that horse. It's going to be dead, beaten, and served with crow. The Order was a beautiful game itself with some fun moments and typical third person shooter mechanics, that said Horizon is much more of a deeper experience and deeper game mechanics for that matter. The two shouldn't be compared aside from being Sony exclusives and both look fantastic.

Just to be sure, if you post a 90+ MC prediction you are as vulnerable as someone posting a sub 80 prediction. Keep that in mind.

Yup, some people are getting a bit carried away with those predictions. As long as the general consensus from reviewers is really positive, who cares about this getting sub 90 meta anyway. Some of the greatest games in history have been in the mid 80 meta score range and that's where I think Horizon critical reception will end up.

It was kind of jarring reading this at first but then I remembered how bad most of the quests in Fallout 4 were. I just didn't really expect anything from the Horizon story so this might end up being a nice surprise.

LMAO....god forbid people be excited for what looks like a great game. Glad you are here to try and set us straight dog. The bolded is dripping with salt. You know that 4chan shit was trolling right? Come on dude.

Horizon has writers and developers who worked on New Vegas and Witcher 3

Fallout 4 didn't

Cool Facts: Game of War has been a hit since July 2013
On a scale with Half Life 3 being the worst and No Man's Sky being the best, what would you rate it?

All my years of being on gaf i have never seen another game do what HZD has done .
It has been compare to more games than i can count , it's not a rpg , the marketing is a certain way , fog and you could go on and on .

Back in February, it hired CD Projekt RED's Lead Cinematic Artist Pawel Swierczynski and Quest Designer Dennis Zoetebier, and today we discover that they just hired Senior Technical Designer Shadi Dadenji this month.

Technical design is a key role in the development of open world games, that are made of many more moving parts than your usual linear game. Dadenji worked extensively on the systems that allowed The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt to work.

But his expertise in open world games doesn't stop there, as he covered the same role at United Front Games, working in the same role on the lovely Sleeping Dogs.

Yeah I read that but wasn't really expecting it to pay off in a meaningful way because I thought that the game had a different focus.

I wasn't expecting it to pay off either, so the reception to the story and writing so far alongside what I saw in the intro was a really pleasant surprise.
