If Nintendo treated the next Metroid Game like BotW...

I am stunned with Breath of the Wild. It delivers on the promise of creating the feeling of the first time you played the original. They treated this game with such respect for the series and the player.

Imagine if the next Metroid game was treated with the same care and reverance. If it created that mysterious dreadul feeling of playing the first one. I think they achieved that with the first Metroid Prime, but in light of Breath of the Wild, my imagination is RUNNING wild!

Third person Metroid in the style of Souls. Book it.

You mentioned your imagination is running wild but didn't describe what you think that step would be? How would you want Metroid taking the same step that BOTW did for Zelda? (sorry if this comes off as condescending, I'm not, I'm more asking because I'm curious)

It's either that or a side scroller Metroid using the Tropical Freeze engine. No inbetween!

is this really how the new zelda is? doesnt sound very 10/10

It's not a simplification at all. Those are literally the only features in the game. It's basically a game for toddlers too.

Honestly if they used BotW as a template, I think they could make something amazing. Just have the game be more "vertical" with Metroid-style upgrades and backtracking. Use the Z-targeting system with little need for manual aiming with a second stick. I can imagine the world of Super Metroid fitting loosely into a game like that.

I would love to play a Metroid game with no music and beams that break after a few uses, sounds like fun!

Should probably not trust the 7-11 security cameras quite so much
Metroid already got that treatment, Metroid Prime came out 15 years ago.

It would be nice if it got that treatment again though.

I'm desperate for anything (quality) Metroid, so yeah, sure.

As long as the game:

1.) Stars Samus.
2.) In some way preserves the sense of progression that suit upgrades provide.
3.) Is executed well in whatever genre / game style it ends up as.
4.) Provides a sense of isolation and focuses on non-verbal storytelling.

What does style of Souls even mean anymore?

Isn't Metroid one of the forebearers (Actually it's Castlevania) of Souls style game design in the first place minus the whole needing upgrades to progress. What Nintendo should do is look at the first Metroid like they did Zelda BOTW to the first Nes version and basically remake it in the modern age.

Why you do this OP? This is just leading to tears and disappointment.

I dont even wanna think about it.

Yeah, I've only played a couple hours of BOTW. A Metroid game like this would have me drooling.

The concepts in my head... combining this with a bit of Mario Galaxy planets that are just bigger forms. Imagine No Man's Sky but in one solar system, playing as Samus. Traveling to other planets, moons, getting too close to the sun.

When I read the thread title I immediately imagined a Metroid Prime game that took on BOTW's systemic survival elements.

Zelda and Metroid have always been fundamentally similar -- they're both about exploring non-linear environments. The difference is Metroid is usually on a smaller, more intimate scale. Metroid could probably work with a wold of a scale similar to BOTW or one of these other open-world games though. In my mind it would feel like something in-between Far Cry 2 in space and the surface gameplay of No Man's Sky, but probably better executed. It could really nail that feeling of surviving on an alien world.

The trick for a potential 3rd person Metroid is how to get the environments and camera to work appropriately with the kind of movement and action is known for. I think it's really hard given how much Metroid depends on vertical platforming and exploration.

My personal thoughts on this would be something like:

-FPS with DOOM like speed, but with abilities/exploration we expect. Think Prime but with faster movement, more agile.
-An overworld/hub akin to the city we saw in the canceled Prey 2 where Samus can pick up sidequests/bounties, etc.
-A typical Metroid labryinth underneath and/or surrounding the hub where the main game takes place.

Well yeah if they take almost 6 years to develop a game and even switch generations before it comes out Metroid could be just as good. Remember they announced Zelda Wii U HD back in like 2011 as a tech demo and then officially did Breath of thr Wild back in 2013. This was a Wii U title.

The fact Zelda has had these kinds of development and release issues means you'll not really see Metroid for a while. Nintendo still has struggled in the post HD era with big name games.

This is a good post.

They will use the Switch motion capability for next Metroid. Make it a first person rollerball game similar to Super Monkey Ball.

BOOK IT.

They would never invest the time and especially the money of a Breath in the Wild into a Metroid game. They wouldn't see a return.

Also Nintendo is a relatively small company that doesn't hire the usual temp workers for crunch. They shift people around. They wouldn't devote that much personal on a Metroid game.

They should make a new Dark Souls in the style of Breath Of The Wild. Breathborne. Also in space.

The Dark Souls team is pretty good at what it does but I don't think they would be able to create a compelling open world experience. They are more the kind of devs that are great at streamlining the experience and not leaving anything to chance. I also don't think the whole game formula would work well in a completely open world environment like with breath of the wild.

-I won't talk about the space part xD

As for Metroid in Breath of the Wild style: This would work pretty well, the 2D Metroids were all about exploring too. However, they all had items as a limiter to where you could go, like later zeldas or the Pokemon games. They need to rethink a lot if they are going to create a Metroid in the Style of breath of the wild but I am sure they could do that :)
