Media Create Sales: Week 11, 2017 (Mar 13 - Mar 19)

In all likelihood a console version of MH would sell a fraction of a handheld release.

I'm very sure Capcom knows this.

As the only dedicated handheld that's still viable Capcom needs the Switch in order to continue the large sales of Monster Hunter.

I'm pretty sure Capcom just doesn't care about a home console version of the franchise.

I mean, there is little reason to speculate about that when Tri sold right around a million, while MH3P sold right around 5 million, with no built in online mode and notably worse graphics. Convenience is king for this series in Japan.

So when Capcom have their next financial/earnings meeting, are they going to blame those Switch owners who have moved on or who are "waiting for a port" for MHXX failing to sell how many they wanted, or are they going to blame their own decision to make it a 3DS exclusive rather than cross platform?

Capcom's explanations will be pretty interesting indeed. I'm expecting the usual corporate spin.

Looking at Famitsu...

01./00. [3DS] Monster Hunter Double Cross <ACT> (Capcom) {2017.03.18} (¥5.800) - 1.014.584 / NEW <60-80%>

Well, at least retailers made the right call regarding the amount of units to order.

Thats why i dont see the arguement for making XX for Switch too. It would also split the fan base.

Wii Sports had a 100% attach rate where it was bundled, where did Zelda have a higher attach rate than this?

EDIT: Unless you mean outselling when it comes to number of copies.

Number of copies.

Surprised that Horizon outsold Nioh.

Horizon outselling Nioh LTD within a few weeks is crazy to think. Dinosaurs are also popular in Japan, it seems. Wonder how Ark: Survival Evolved would do in Japan.

I am unsure why this is a surprising end result, we've known the trends of western OW games for a while now and his is quite par. Nioh is an off-shoot of a more novel 'genre' with divergences that could/would alienate fans of the Souls series.

Because Souls series has established a level of success while Horizon was expected to sell around the same as Xenoblade X/Witcher 3. Atleast that was my expectation and it has surpassed both easily.

Nioh is a mixture of Souls based exploration with Ninja Gaiden type combat which makes for an interesting combination. Both of these games are quite popular in Japan so I think the sales are a little lower than what I hoped for it. The game is also choke full of Japanese mythology so there's that =/

Modern Ninja Gaiden has never been popular in Japan though. Nioh has sold about twice the best selling Ninja Gaiden game. Sure it didn't hit Dark Souls heights, but it's still a lot better than most non-Warriors Koei-Tecmo games.

Where is TW3 at?
Also Nioh hasn't outsold Witcher 3 thus far. Witcher 3 has had great legs.

Mario Kart 7 was at 2.8m shipped on last update, wonder if it'll get to 3m

Retail + digital on Famitsu it'll be hitting just 2.7m soon, ouselling Monster Hunter 4G and Yokai Watch 2G.

If MK8DX continues 3DS fate and outsells MK8 it will take some time for Nintendo to release MK9.

MK was one of Nintendo multimillion franchises that showed good hold from DS to 3DS.

Famitsu said Switch is still in short supply in its comment to this week's numbers, can anyone confirm it?

(Don't think it has been mentioned yet).

Totally impossible to find...

I've seen restocks at online stores this week and there are indications for a bigger shipment at weekend.

Yeah, I know, but re-stocks were very limited. They go as they arrive. I guess you're right and we will have a bigger shipment this weekend.

Mid week restocks for Switch, even limited, aren't common. Monday was holiday and Splatoon 2 testfire is at weekend

If Nintendo managed to ship 50k last week maybe we could see a 50% rise for this. It's the biggest "release" for the system until MK8DX in a month.

Super not surprised at how Accel World/SAO sold. This particular branch of SAO games has been pretty awful, and I think fans of both franchises are much happier with the proper MMO-style Hollow games.

500k shipped for the month would be a nice round number for the system, but a nice round number is rarely the case. I bet next week sees an increase to 65-70k units for Switch.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Little Amazon.co.jp watch: Ultra Street Fighter II preorders started a few hours ago...not that thrilling though. Currently 130th and 189th (two SKUs, damn you Amazon and your exclusive SKUs), but it happened with no notice of any kind (like the announcement itself or a brand new trailer), neither the box art is present on both Amazon listings. I suppose it'll go higher, but it certainly seems (so far) that the game's performing far better on US Amazon, and that the Mana Collection is winning the competition between overpriced games (still 3rd as we're speaking).

This MH is simply laughable lol. I can't see how it will reach that 2 million number in 2 weeks. I can't even imagine how any investors still had any confident towards Capcom here when all their Big IP is struggling.

It is going to be interesting to see how Capcom react to Switch and crazy rise of mobile there.

I think world Wide, this last week of March is suppose to push 500k switch units, how many of those coming to Japan? My guess is 100k+ would be really great if they could hit 550k before April, where doubling production will possibly give 100k a week to Japan, their next step is bundles and how fast they can get splatoon 2 out the door.

Another interesting thing about Switch is that the architecture and api is found on mobile, so Switch can be sort of a gateway for next generation mobile products, allowing developers to start thinking about bringing their games to mobile.

Switch does have an opportunity to become a catch all for development, indies should find all the performance they need out of the switch, mobile developers will find their tools and knowledge travel well on switch, console game developers can target switch as a low spec if it sells well, and PC developers can use all their knowledge to develop products for the switch. Nintendo is obviously going to need to be there, Japan doesn't have a huge choice here as vita slows to a stop over the next two years, meanwhile ps4 might sell in line with the ps3 in Japan but leaves plenty of room for Switch to dominate as 3ds dies off.

DS didn't directly compete with the ps2/ps3 or wii, and I don't think Switch will directly compete with the PS4 in the end either, I think it is quite possible for both platforms to sell over 100 million, though that isn't a prediction about sales, but rather a guess about the size of the gaming market.

Nintendo partnering with Nvidia was clearly the best move they could have made, especially with this form factor, the ease of development and Nvidia's involvement with Epic and UE4 really bodes well for the support of the platform going forward.

DS competed with everything in Japan, like Switch will do if it becomes market leader.

West is a different story.

I would expect a good deal more than that. It seems likely (though is unconfirmed) that Nintendo will increase shipments for next week due to the Splatoon testfire.

Splatoon2 Test Fire is going to be easy on the Servers if we are way below 2 million hardware sold so far

I think the Wii U had a lot more hardware worldwide when they tested the first game
still gonna play the hell out of it for those 3 days

They'll probably have another testfire after mk8d hit and raise the number of hardware.
