Wish Nintendo create the Electrodrome battle stage like the race track.

Maybe for DLC or the next game.

The music is so good too.

okay but people can already do the smartphone thing with Discord, so Nintendo's still not really supplying anything new or helpful with the app.

Well, let's wait to see the details here. It's not just being a phone thing that makes it interesting, but direct integration with the Switch, and what's happening in-game, which is a level beyond what Discord can offer fundamentally.

Hopefully we'll hear something Wednesday, though I'm not really holding my breath.

I've always thought Nintendo would be shooting themselves in the foot not to offer an extremely limited slice of all their multiplayer games for free.

1 cup + 1st row of characters for Mario Kart
4-5 characters + Battlefield for Smash
Testfire maps + weapons for Splatoon 2 (offline only)

But then I saw how people reacted to Mario Run and now I'm not so sure.

Ahah I hear you, I meant more in a sense of being able to play with someone who has the full game with a free downloaded version. That's how I've played Mario Party: Star Rush with my brother, where has the full game and I just have the 'party guest' app you downloaded off the eshop.

I could see them doing what you suggested as pre-release demos though, they did it a few times on 3DS. Here's hoping :D

Does anyone know if all the content is unlocked from the beginning? or will you have to unlock it like the Wii U version. I know it's a new game but it's being labeled as the "deluxe" version, I thought everything might be unlocked from the start.

Characters are, vehicles and parts aren't - you have to earn coins and complete stuff for them ;)

I wouldn't want it to be delivered as a "party guest app." I'd want it to literally just be a limited free download, such that it's not a discrete app but just "the game" stripped of most of its content, available basically to fill both needs - the need for demos, and the need for a replacement for download play.

Of course, the problem with this is that people would just expect it to work like F2P does on mobile. "Why do I have to pay to get all the characters? etc."

I'm getting this day 1 because I want to play MK8 on a plane.

This being full SRP is a little bit of a slap in the face given that I've already bought this game.

But, what are you gonna do? I'm part of the problem :p

You could always do what I did and
get it for $14 with all the Best Buy rewards credit I earned from buying my Switch + games + accessories there
.

Honestly, I super recommend this for anyone who wants a Switch and would enjoy Mario Kart but doesn't want to pay for it again.

First tragedy, then farce.

I'm all digital because i don't want to be bothered with remembering to bring shit on a plane.

I was pretty hyped to play smash bros, but on the fence about replay value. When that demo dropped I had so much fun with just the 5 characters there I HAD to buy it

I would be hesitant to rebuy this if MK8 wasn't the hands down best entry in the series by far. This is like, "don't even make a 9, just make DLC forever" good.

Still holding out hope that Nintendo are going to offer some sort of digital discount to people who bought the digital version of MK8 and the DLC on Wii U.

I've already pre-ordered the physical version of the game but I'd much rather have digital.

I always wanted 3 stages of boost after I played Sonic All Stars Racing. Holding out for that extra second is so gratifying. Can't wait.

Personally I think this will be the Mario Kart for Switch. I think it's smarter for Nintendo to save the "fresh" Mario Kart for Switch 2.
Lolno. There will definitely be a completely new Mario Kart for Switch, assuming Switch does not have as short a life cycle as Wii U. MK8 Deluxe obviously only exists to fill up Switch's early months so that there'd be something for early adopters to buy. Much like games like Last of Us Remastered were released for PS4 early on and now we are getting the sequel.

Will still be called Mario Kart.

No doubt, it's one of the biggest names in gaming.
But Mario Kart in name only, the actal game should be Nintendo Kart, with all big Nintendo characters featured, and locations from much more games. And not per say in Mario Kart style either.

Even C Tier Mario characters have more recognizability than other Nintendo characters tbh. I see no point in turning it into full on Nintendo Kart, but 6 or so guest characters is fine with me.

I mean, I'd like to assume this is true, but we have no clue what Nintendo is up to.

Question. Why isn't Zelda an optional character?

If we are going to get Boy and Girl Squids, we should get Zelda to compliment Link (who is already in the game)

I'd be much happier if Nintendo made a different game rather than Mario Kart 9. DLC for this one would be fine though.

The vanilla release was imo already off the chart in terms of fun factor, content and quality. The proposition of a better-performing version with new features and a battle mode for my awesome new portable is an absolute no-brainer purchase.

I didn't like MK8 on Wii U. I'm only getting it because there's nothing else to play. :/

I'm sort of in the same boat here. I bought MK8 when it first came out, but I didn't like the physics, the coin mechanic, and the roster. But I'm going to buy it again on the Switch because I didn't buy any of the Wii U DLC and the possibility of playing split-screen Mario Kart in a restaurant while you're waiting for your food to arrive is pretty amazing.

May be worth it's own thread: there's indeed no download play for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Makes it the first handheld MK which requires every player to have his/her own game copy as the GBA, DS, and 3DS versions all had single-card multiplayer.

I don't understand why some are so quick to "lol" at the thought of this being the only Mario Kart for the Switch. Aren't mario kart titles typically evergreen titles for their respective systems? Makes more since that DLC would be an on-going thing that a MK9 sometime later. But I guess we'll see, right? Either way, I'm so pumped. Last Mario Kart game I played was Wii and the last one I loved was DS. So ready for this one.

I don't know if download play for HD games will be a thing, atleast for awhile.

It was easy on the DS or 3DS sending a handful of megabytes, but a download play option for MK8 would require GBs.

Not sure why anyone ever expected this.

They are, but Nintendo never released deluxe versions of Kart or Smash before, so we are in new territory. Who knows what's going to happen really.

I think it's gonna depend on whether they have new gameplay ideas and how big of a change they are. Every MK has added something to the formula(gliding, underwater, anti-gravity, etc).

So I hate to be annoying but I still haven't seen it mentioned if we can play battle mode in elimination instead of timed. Anyone know if we can? I'm pretty sure the Wii U version let you but it just wasn't fun on the racetrack maps.

So what is HD rumble?

An advanced form of the rumble we've always had in controllers. If you're using a stationary controller as you do in most conventional video games you'll barely feel any difference. The unique aspects can only come into play for motion controlled games.

I don't agree with this at all. It could go either way especially if this version sells well. I much rather them release this game and put full resources into another game instead. I can see them adding more DLC to make MK8 more attractive, but I don't see 9 as a surefire thing on NSW. I feel like they'll push another racing IP like DKR midway through the generation instead

Looks like you can't play with 4 players / 2 Switches via local connection. It isn't possible either in Fast RMX. A shame!

Sending several GBs over ac-Wi-Fi shouldn't take too long though. I can already download entire 20 GB titles in 10 minutes, and that's probably more limited by my internet connection. Games like MK8 are only a fraction of that size. And for MKDS it also took a minute or so to download the data, so it's not as if it ever was instantaneous or so.

Load up Blaster Master Zero and feel the difference as Sophia 3rd launches out of the bay at the start. The HD rumble here gives a sensation better than standard rumble, and this is not for a motion control game. And though I haven't played them, people say the use is excellent in FAST RMX and Puyo Puyo Tetris too, both stationary controller games.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe could easily use it to bring a different feeling to each level of boost, road surfaces, bumps from other characters, and so on.

Sending even just 1GB is enough to defeat the purpose of download play. You'd have to set it up, wait for the transfer (could take longer than 10min wirelessly) and then the 2nd player has to install or whatever. And it'd probably be a severely limited course selection to be just 1GB.

It's doable it's just not nearly as fast or simple as people would expect so it's probably not worth it. Especially when you can pick up and play the entire game co-operatively when portable.

Nah, it's just a downside to having console experiences on the go. Switch is a home console first and foremost. No need for a new topic.
