Kamiko (Switch) available on the Japanese eShop for 500 yen - In English

I bought it; why not. Wanted to see what the process was like on Switch. Was easy enough to get points from Amazon JP (just make sure you have a Japanese address on file and switch to it during the purchase process). Will I ever play it? Who knows. Regardless, thanks for the tip. I've made it to the "all titles" menu on my system!

This is basically what I did too. Probably won't play it much but now I understand how to purchase Japanese games and everything is set up in case something really interesting releases in the future. Glad I did it!

Holy crap is this game super short and very easy.

But you know what? It doesn't matter. It's fun as hell, very cute, a joy to play, and dirt cheap.

There does seem to be more to do, too; the file select shows I need to beat the game with all three characters, there are secrets listed of which I got none, and the title screen still has a ???? selection.

Assuming a properly converted $5 price in NA, I will buy. Too cheap to pass.

I might even make the OT for it if no one else does.

If this game has an English Option, shouldn't it release on the US Store in a few days?

That depends on the US publisher, I'd suppose.

Disgaea 5 was available at launch in Japan.. but it isn't coming out here until late May. It has full english, including voices.

I just bought and loaded this up. The intro is INCREDIBLE.

I thought holy shit this music. Its so 8 bit I love it!

Then I started reading the text...holy FUCK this translation is straight out of the 8 bit era! God its incredible.

Now time to play the actual game.

Beaten three times but still no secrets found and the ???? option on the title screen remains locked. I wonder if trophies are always silver, or if there's a gold one if I get under 30 mins and that might be one secret. Who knows! I like this little mystery.

The archer, Uzume, is the hardest. Her weapon is not amazing with large groups, where the other two have stuff that rips through those.

Edit: My new time got me a Gold, so I would say it's safe to assume that <30m is the target for that.

And with that I throw down the gauntlet! I messed up in a few spots, and I am sure some routes can be optimised. Will be interesting to see how low we can get it.

So how do I buy this exactly? I kinda really want to play it.

I need to buy yen eShop card and change my account to Japan/create a second account?

The easiest way is to get a 500 yen eShop card, change your account to Japan, use the code to buy this, then change your account back to your region. Then it's on your main account, no extra accounts needed.

But to switch accounts like that, you need to make sure you have no money in them. That's why you need a 500 yen card, so that the game empties your wallet completely.

I feel a strange itch for this game too, but I'm OCD and insist on buying everything through the NA account, so I'll just hope that the local release is coming soon.

I'm waiting too.

I really hope Circle is as enthusiastic about Switch as they were 3DS. I'd pay $5-$10 for collections of their best 3DS games ported to Switch.

Speedrunning is fun in this game. That's probably because of how short the levels are.

Not crazy about the 3rd charactee. Her attack just annoyed me lol.

I'll dive into the other 2 characters in a bit.

Good to know about having to get under a certain time for gold. Gives the game some replay value.

It drew quite a bit of attention off Weibo last night after the Direct as Circle is one of the Chinese indie developers. I actually saw their promo Weibo post to remind myself to get the game.

Game is fun as hell. It has the authentic 8bit feeling. One of the first game to have Chinese localization support on Switch too. For only 500 yen ($5), this is a must-get!

Got gold with all 3, but I didn't unlock the ???? on the main menu.

Havent found any of the secrets either.

I'm very intrigued with how you unlock these things.

I don't know if this means anything but there are times during boss fights I would see a small, white star on the floor:

It's not always there and I don't know what causes it. You can't interact with it either. So yea, it's either nothing or has something to do with the 4 secret items you can unlock.

The second video linked in the OP makes this look kind of like a discount Hyper Light Drifter. (am I wrong?) Speaking of, that's a game that should be on the Switch.

I wonder if there's anything better than a Gold trophy. Maybe under 20 minutes is Platinum. Should be able to get that with Yamato fairly easily to see.

Does it have local multiplayer?

No multiplayer.

Yea, that was my next thought.

When I get to a shrine and save, I'll see how long it'll take to get to the next one and if I feel I'm taking too long, I'll exit and load the game again. It'll put me back at the previous shrine with whatever time I had when I activated it. Just a quick tip for anyone trying to speedrun.

I thought because there are 4 secret items that there should be one in each level but I guess not? The mystery is intriguing. Because it's a puzzle game, maybe we have to do something out of the ordinary? Or maybe I'm just thinking too hard and it's something so simple lol

I just finished designing an OT for this game, and it's pretty fucking sweet if I may say so myself, which makes me doubly disappointed that we don't have an NA release date yet.

I want to post this thing c'mon.

Since we can all just buy it anyway, can't you post it as "Import OT"? :p
