New Dunkirk trailer

So this isn't based on reality? If I remember my history correctly, Hitler basically allowed them to get away, because he didn't want to risk his tanks and because he still thought he might be able to make peace with Great Britain (which was idiotic, of course).

It looks like the usual dunkirk glorification you get in english/american media about WW2.

No, Hitler did not deliberately let the British and French escape at Dunkirk. The Germans paused for all of two days, largely because the Blitzkrieg had advanced faster than expected and they needed time to rest and resupply, but also because they had faith in the Luftwaffe. The order to halt didn't come from Hitler either, though he approved it.

Can't wait to see the glare Nolan gives to the first journalist that pushes some propaganda/authenticity agenda on him.

Honestly I'm tired of shitting on Nolan but that just looked to clean and pretty to be interesting to me. Zero Interest.

I'll like the the storyline of the father and sons coming to assist though. I like that aspect of it.

This looks really good. I get a different vibe from this than your typical WW2 film.

Also, Rylance dialect is music to my ears.

Day Fucking One. I NEED to see those dogfights in IMax holy shiiiiit.

World War 2 is one of the most fascinating things ever to me, and I'm a fan of Nolan, so I am 100 percent on board with this movie. Most anticipated of the year for sure, maybe even more than Star Wars.
In our current political climate, I feel like this film's naked Toryism is really just distasteful, sorry.

Seriously? May have just lost a few brain cells.

Looks intense as fuck. As it should be considering what happened there.

Looking forward to it. I'm ready for another WWII movie.

This trailer got me back on board + Nolan saying it's not really a war film but a survival thriller. Now I know what to expect from it.

It was sorry

It's not really to me to sell the movie to people, but this is pretty much the anti-Interstellar. Grounded, based in history. More than likely to be Nolan's shortest film in years, as well as the lightest on exposition and dialogue. Not to mention there shouldn't be any surprise third act twist given that the outcome of the evacuation is a matter of fact.

I'd keep an open mind.

I will since he does have an amazing track record otherwise

Was into this as soon as I saw the title of his movie. For the trailer, there are a few set pieces that feels very fake. As in too easy to spot sources of water splashes and explosions. Hope it is just badly picked scenes.
I have no idea what this movie is about.
Maybe look into it. Pretty big historic event in WWII.

Doesn't look interesting at all. I love Nolan but The Dark Knight Rises and Interstellar were all misses. I hope this one is good bc I love WW2 stuff.

That nautical + pilot + timepiece mix, sublime, they definitely know what they're doing with the presentation of this movie; slick and professional classic

This is gonna be good

The trailer hardly makes it look like some heroic British war movie, it looks like it's about a bunch of people (400.000 I guess) who are stuck on a beach, being shot at, and trying to get on a fleet of civilian ships, because there are no warships to come and help.

Are you sure it isn't the ocean?

Honestly, these trailers have not really made me get what the conflict is in this movie.

They all seem to be stuck in this city for some reason and are getting attacked by, like, 2 planes now and then? I'm sure there's real conflict there, since it's based on a real event, but the trailers have done a bad job at telling us what it is.

You've got a plucky British gent saying, "We've got a job to do," and going to Dunkirk despite the danger. Add Churchill's speech, and that's exactly what the romantic version of Dunkirk would look like. A more accurate take would show the fighting on the defensive perimeter because that's where the arguably more crucial events were happening.

The last trailer included a handy diagram of the predicament:

This one was content to literally spell it out on screen in big, block letters (400 thousand stranded soldiers, one beach, civilians to the rescue). I guess I'm just underestimating the importance of prior knowledge, but it seems like they're going out of their way to communicate the context.

Can't go wrong with Nolan+Zimmer+Hoytema+IMAX+WWII+Dogfights
Whether the movie ends up good or bad, That's a hell of a combo right there.
Hopefully I still have a True IMAX left near, because good old Cinemark has been buying a lot of my IMAX theaters and turning them into Cinermark XD screens -_-

The British are the heroes damn it! The French are just surrender monkeys waving their white flags!
