Any of you people drink salted water after cardio workouts?

I heard it through the grapevine when working out in heat. Anyway, I've started dropping a few salt granules in to water after my workout (none in water during workout) and my recovery has become much faster.

Lol. I really do love your food posts. It's like all of my day's calories on one plate and then some.

Just had my usual Sunday, post-long-run, Arby's lunch. Max sandwich, classic sandwich, plus fries. Gotta love being able to have a 1,000+ calorie meal and still netting 0 calories for the day so far!

Does anyone have a website or app suggestion that does meal planning for you? Bonus points for something that allows me to put in my desired macros and shapes around that.

It's funny, I just cycled for twelve hours and I'm reasonably certain I haven't eaten that much today.

How in God's name do you cycle for that long? I did 1.5 hours on my trainer last week and my body had enough of it. You're fucking crazy and your saddle must be really damn comfy.

Next weekend it'll be something like 14/14/18. It doesn't happen overnight. lol

(It's also very different doing it in the real world vs on a trainer)

I'm lactose intolerant so I can't take whey. I have some vegan protein powder but it's expensive and only gives 20g of protein a serving; I'd need to eat almost the whole container each day.
How much protein are you trying to get? You can get lactose free whey protein (hell they are already doing the hard work for purification anyway).

I know they say that dietary cholesterol is only a small component of circulating cholesterol, but I'm pretty sure they are basing that off eating an egg or maybe 2 a day at most. Hitting a dozen or more a day might be a bit risky.

After three weeks of rest I still have pains in my left iliopsoas, or around that region. I feel it when I squat bodyweight to parallell, but not really before. When I use weight I feel it earlier.

I'm not even sure the iliopsoas is the problem -- doing this stretch below doesn't activate the pain:

It seems to me that if I stretch the muscle that gives me pain, it would at least give me a little pain during the stretch. So maybe it's something else? I don't know actually... Never had this pain before I started squating in a gym with heavy weights.

Any ideas? What do I do? I'm resorting to leg extension machine and deadlifts for leg workouts atm

I used to have this problem too. Never figured it out before I quit the gym. I'd definitely like to know what you end up finding out.

I'm thinking of getting a simple home gym set-up. Get a modest set of dumbbells, yoga mat, and perhaps a barbell + rack.

At the gym I went to, I was able to perform lat pulldowns. With the equipment mentioned above, I don't see a way to replicate/replace that particular exercise.

Any downsides to a home gym?

Get a pull up bar for lats.

Get a loading pin,a handle, and a pulley system.

I know Jujimufu has some set up in home gym that he can set up as a Lat Pulldown or a Cable Row. He uses it in this video

I think I can confirm I've reached bottom of the barrel regarding hobby fatigue.

it's not that I want to quit fitness/work out/lifting.weights,

It's the fact that I've been doing the same stuff for at least 2 years with only very minor changes to my setup and I am bored as hell of that.

I am in desperate need of everything new, I don't know, new exercises, new clothes, new music, new objectives, new everything.

I've made huge progress regarding my eating habits but weight lifting feels so much like a chore right now -_-

how do you guys deal with hobby fatigue? or are you always pumped to hit the gym?

Yeah it really sucks. I've just started going to the gym so I'm getting huge gains in all other big lifts, and my squat is still at 110lbs. I'm gonna be benching more than what my last squat was at this point. I'm 100% sure the issue is not the iliopsoas at this point; it's probably some groin muscle like pectineus or an adductor. Haven't had the time to try more stretches though. What did you end up doing other than quitting?

Related, this was interesting on eating 3 eggs a day: http://suppversity.blogspot.co.uk/2017/01/three-eggs-day-are-doping-for-your-hdl.html

I've never been pumped to hit the gym. It's a means to an end, nothing more.

Try a new workout plan or something. Hell, try some strongman exercises, people seem to say they're fun.

yeah but limitations,

I turn 40 this year and I am as casual/hobby as it gets so strongman stuff is probably not for me.

One limiting factor is the eating thing, I realized in the last 2 or so years that I will never ever go on any kind of "bulk" diet again. Pre-hypertension and pre-diabetes runs in the family very strong and getting that caloric surplus having to be careful with sodium and sugar look like an exercise in futility (I am probably wrong thought, maybe I just lack the nutritional knowledge) the "get huge-muscled" ship sailed long ago, this had to be done being 25.

but ok, It's enough to have fun while staying healthy and keep myself active as long as possible. I can look well too, I guess.

I think I need to look up some youtube exercises to push my body in ways I haven't yet with what I have available: my body and what my gym offers.

It's not impossible, it's just harder. Basically, if you can't cook, then you're limited to eating crap.

This is a limiting factor, but a great opportunity, this hobby taught me to shut up and cook my own healthy food.

I do cook.

After a while I found what works best for me, for example plain veggies or brocolli, brown rice, fish and chicken products, all plain with lemon and/or olive oil to spice them up.

keyword here is "bulking".

Bulking without (for example) super mega protein shakes that include several fruits and nutella (sugar and more sugar) or some crazy post-workout meals (crazy sodium everywhere) looks hard.

bulking on Brocolli and plain chicken and natural? I wanna see the receipts lol

So i'm about a stone down since my cut started around Feb - down from 98kg to ~91kg atm. Started carb cycling now so i'm hitting around 1900cals on low carb days and 2300cals for high carb days.

Strength is more a less the same with only deadlifts being a bit of a struggle when going heavier than 210-220kg.

Goal weight for the cut is around 89kg with 2 months left to hit it so i'm on course.

Feels good being able to fit into my old jeans again - it's like I have two different sets of clothes - one for bulking, one for cutting.

See, no offence, but that's just stupid. There are plenty of calorific options that are "clean" without being broccoli and plain chicken. (Why the fuck anyone would eat that crap is beyond me anyway)

Open a cook book? Seriously, your options are generally limitless.

I sous vide most of my meat in herbs etc or I serve it with a self made sauce (obviously choosing exactly how much salt / sugar etc... generally none). Tons of fruit and vegetables, especially higher calorific ones like avocados, sweet potatoes etc. Olive oil with all your salads and whatnot. Nuts, and plenty of them.

Rice, pasta and legumes can all be cooked without salt (add whatever flavours and spices you like to it), and there's fuck all wrong with eating any of them as part of a balanced diet. (I went sub 10% bodyfat eating either rice or pasta every day)

You're bulking... bulking using bodybuilding cutting food is just insane.

Also, why wouldn't you use those protein shakes? There's really nothing at all harmful about this assuming you're not lactose intolerant...

400ml Milk (use almond milk if you're obsessive),
2 x scoop of protein,
3 x scoop of oats
40g peanut butter
1 x banana
15g coconut oil

Zero added salt, tiny amount of sugar from the banana... which is easily handled by the buffer of all the fibre in there.

Boredom from working out can usually be overcome with something new to freshen things up. You could try a completely different routine for a while , some lifts you've never tried before, lifting in a new gym, or my favorite, signing up for some kind of event or competition.

You don't have to be in it to win it to sign up for something. As a matter of fact most people who enter competitions or races have little to no chance of winning (*raises hand*). Most people are there for the excitement of the competition and to beat their personal records. Having an event in your future keeps you on your toes, helping to keep the motivation and excitement going.

er, no I am not? I was just talking about the possibilites in a unspecified future if I ever tried to bulk again, and basically said the same I bolded, it's insane.

also, yes what you post matches my info, I think I either worded my post wrong or something, we are basically in the same wavelength

Ok, well it's this I disagree with mostly anyway:

"Bulking without (for example) super mega protein shakes that include several fruits and nutella (sugar and more sugar) or some crazy post-workout meals (crazy sodium everywhere) looks hard."

Unless you find you need 6k calories to bulk on (unlikely), there's no reason to use shit food to do it.

Stupid question.
so generally, I get up early in the am m-w-f, workout, take a protein shake, shower, and then a protein bar while driving to work.

I'm getting grossed out by protein bars. Not sure why. Have been using pure protein bars, tried quest bars, they gross me out.

Is it cool just to take two protein shakes and skip the bar?

Yeah? I mean, what made you think you need a protein bar instead of a protein shake?

I'd recommend carbs too but whatever fits your goals.

Today's lesson... don't bother doing weights the day after a ridiculously hard cycling session. Nearly got pancaked on weights I usually warm up with. =/

"My God... it's full of Starch!"
tried yoga today after weightlifting, had to wake up extra early so I can fit the class in before work. I was so tired afterwards I straight up fell asleep for 1 hr at work. Luckily no one noticed.

Personal anecdote: I've been eating 4 eggs most days for years and at my last physical a couple months ago my total cholesterol was 109.

Meant to order sbd knee sleeves but accidentally ordered strong sleeves oh well.
Also saw blue Bell brides cake ice cream and couldn't buy it. RIP. Guess I'll. Wait. Until I finish the other two I have in the freezer lol

EDIT: Woot. the order got canceled since they were having issues with their ordering system. just ordered the SBD Sleeve ones because the stitching last longer than the strong sleeve.

Sup fitgaf. Been awhile! Start PTA school (basically PT-lite) next week so between that and work, personal fitness goals might take a backseat for awhile. Anyone able to maintain strength and mass while only lifting about 3 hours a week? I need some assurance that I don't emerge two years later a scrawny weakling.

I did 3x420lbs deadlift tonight on a 72 hour fast. AMA.

Three hours a week is plenty. Look into 531.

To be honest, the 3 hours a week (if done consistently) will be fine. I'd be more worried about making sure you get your calories and macros with everything going on.

Bench Press is progressing really nicely for me right now.

Why such a long fast?

I had a few persistent injuries from baseball that wouldn't heal.

Skeletal muscle injury is regulated by immune system.
Fasting for 72 hours triggers stem cell regeneration of damaged, old immune system (GAF thread on this.)

During the 72 hours I fasted, my groin/hip abductor injury healed. My bicep and wrist tendinitis got significantly better. I've been carrying these injuries for months.

Brian Burke punched my mom
405 3x8 highbar beltless, PB for sets with that weight and reps. Wanted to do 5x8 but my back was already tweaked before hand 😳

Think my legs have actually grown, around 215lbs dehydrated now. My 38 waist jeans barely fit around my ass and thighs now 😯

Wow thats really interesting. Maybe I should try that when I have 3 days off in a row next week. I got a nagging issue with my left shoulder and right hip.

So did you just drink water during the 72 hours?

is a cardio day here and there bad when im trying to gain weight?

no. work your heart.

There is a difference between cardio/hit training which you wanna do, and running a marathon per week.

diet is more important, make sure you are eating at a surplus. I don't know your stats or anything but that is just some basic tips.

I drank black coffee, homemade ice green tea (unsweetened obviously) plain water and water with electrolytes. The latter is very important because the coffee and green tea, even though they help to suppress hunger, are a diuretic and you are in especially need of water during this sort of fast.

Can I add, the deadlift was my best effort this year.
