The reasoning given for MH5 on PS4 makes little sense. The changes to the franchise also sound bad and not MH.
To be fair, I wouldn't mind "streamlining" if it just removed Hunter Arts and Styles.

But we all know what "streamlining" really means.

If these rumors were true I'd be down for both games, but the changes to the PS4 version sound terrible and I think we'd have a lot of pissed off PS4-owning MH fans when they realized their HD MH was a dumbed down QTE-fest.

As I posted in the other thread, it does not make sense for Capcom to sign an exclusivity deal with Sony, just to get worried about it and not make the IP exclusive anyway. What was the point of the whole exchange then? I feel no one benefit from it:

Sony gets a Monster Hunter game developed from a team that is not from the main MH team.

Capcom put themselves in uneasy standing with both Sony and Nintendo with this contract, as Capcom is still delivering MH to Nintendo, which I believe was the nature of the contract in the first place (if true), to keep the IP from Nintendo.

The development team, the main one that is, gets the shaft. Working on this series for so long, just to get relegated to, to put it bluntly, spin-off status. This other team working on the main series will get advertised more etc, because it is a main series game, not a spin-off (mhportable, whatever).

Sure, Sony fans finally get a MH game, but I feel like this is not what they have been asking for (the product the rumor indicates). Overall, the rumor makes for a huge mess.

I don't care about the exclusivity but Capcom must give MH a chance in the West and PS4 is the best console to do that

Should probably not trust the 7-11 security cameras quite so much
It sounds so stupid that it makes me think it's true. Capcom make terrible decisions so this would make sense.

It's very interesting how salty people get at the thought that there might be a rumored MH for PS4

I would be down for both versions. It's not like we're rolling around in co-op action games tbh.

I guarantee you that's not why people are salty about a PS4 version, Monster Hunter with fucking QTE's?

So, if I read this correctly, once the Switch took off Capcom moved the MH team from MH:5 to the as yet unnamed MH:Switch. So the B-team will make the numbered game for PS4 while the real MH Team works on Switch?

I think this is true and also less "Sony is desperate for Japan" but more "Capcom needs a fucking hit in the west"

Humoring the rumors, something between Monster Hunter and Dragon's Dogma sound pretty great, while class style exists as a portable franchise. Seems win-win.

Every time I read "westernized MH for PS4" I just think Dragon's Dogma. Isn't some version of DD coming to the PS4 soonish? I thought I saw a thread the other day.

Some people would be salty just at the thought of it going multiplatform but a rumour saying MH5 is a straight Switch/PS4 multiplatform game would be a lot more plausible than this.

I don't care about the exclusivity but Capcom have to give MM a chance in the West and PS4 is the best console to do that

Monster Hunter has had chances in the West going back to the PS2. The West doesn't care.

The question here isn't about growing the franchise in the West, it's about whether or not Sony cares enough about the Japanese market to pay for Monster Hunter.

A lot of questionable things here.

Sony going hard for Japan, but westernizing MH in the process, seemingly suggesting Capcom and Sony have completely different goals with this deal. camp on wanting western MH growth and Sony wanting a big push for Japan, this seems very odd to me that two parties make a deal with contradictory goals in mind like this. Then Capcom being okay with no local MP MH and just willingly abandoning everything about their goldmine in a mainline entry.

That being said if the rumour is true, MH5 sounds terrible and Capcom would seemingly be in a really bad situation from completely misreading where the series was going in the west.

I think Capcom thinks the Monster Hunter name has weight? I mean we're getting some weirdo American MH film.

It's crazy to think that sony paid to keep mh5 away from the switch but not keeping it as an exclusive ( I guess they just want it console exclusive). The gameplay changes doesn't make me hopeful about it but I definately want to see how it plays.

It sounds like the leaker was trying to say that Sony Japan is worried about the West and it got weird in translation, not that Sony was worried about Japan.

"streamlined" combat, QTEs, less gathering and prep, and an open world.

If there is even any hint of truth to the PS4 side of the rumors it really doesn't inspire much confidence. Capcom pulled a Capcom like they did with SFV. Internally people are like OMG what did they do. This is fucked hurry up with Switch MH.

Nothing about that says aww yeah MH PS4 to me

Yeah, but removing gathering, preparations, missions/timer, as well as gimping weapons and a focus on older monsters in favor of simplified QTE gameplay does not sound like MH or good even. There's also the internal stuff in the rumor that makes things sound even worse.

The streamlining comment means that they are making the weapons more simple.

I hope it's true, because everyone wins
Nobody wins in this scenario, because if it's true:

They'd be repeating exactly what they attempted with DmC Devil May Cry. Completely alienating the original fanbase (who will play it anyway, as happened with DmC Devil May Cry) and either accept it as something different to the core series but still ultimately hold disdain for it due to the fact it potentially killed off the previous direction because of its success, or it puts the franchise on ice until they reboot it, because it failed to gather the new audience it needed while alienating the old audience. (Which DmC Devil May Cry did for that franchise)

Can't see how Capcom would rush for another big name exclusivity deal after the Capcom 5 fell through and how SFV was a flop. Plus Switch is basically the successor to the 3DS and is bound to outsell the PS4 in Japan. But its Capcom.

This is a tie in for the movie, no? Then why call it MH5? It's not a continuation of the OG franchise. They should just call it Monster Hunter. MH5 should stay as the OG game (for Switch).

Capcom has no reason to "change" MH to suits western needs. The game is starting to be popular here and if they wanted to appeal to the west they could've done it without making it MH5 but another spin off like Generation or whatever it was called. That way everyone would be pleased.

I'm down for both games.

If MH5 does get announced for PS4 only the thread will be even worse than the infamous FFXIII 360 thread.

Most of the time I see people asking for changes to Monster Hunter, and I think "They already made that and it's called Dragon's Dogma."

I love this rumour. It's the perfect marriage of Capcom being stupid and gamers ready to go in full meltdown mode. I hope it's true.

All jokes aside, I do want to see a more approachable MH. And if this really is true, I think that's pretty sweet. Those who want an easier MH with better graphics can buy it on PS4 or PC, those who want the traditional formula can get it on Switch. That's basic franchise expansion.

What makes this absolutely crazy is the deal behind it. If Capcom really made a deal like that with Sony, if THE next MH is PS4 exclusive, that would have great repercussions in the relationship with Nintendo. The stuff about how MH5 development is troubled while the 3DS game makes bank is just gravy.

I think this could be a terrible business decision by Capcom, but I don't work for Capcom so I'm here for the ride.

I cannot see them making MH5 some streamlined experience for the west. That is he 1 way you forever screw over your Japanese fan base and the new fan base that has bought into 4U and Generations.

It doesn't rely matter in the end. Capcom will come out with the numbered MH for the PS4 then tweak it a bit and then release it on the Switch and call it something else.

Switch gets the real traditional/mainline one and the the tweaked/lite MH version. Everyone ones wins.

I believe it.
Capcom misread the market and they're trying to get a MH Portable 5th out soon after the console MH sounds about right.
With XX slated for March (Switch launch date) you'd think they would try and hurry it out for launch on Switch too. Instead they got a small group of guys to port MT Framework and get USFII on it 3 months or so late.
It seems like they had a change of heart pretty late into 2016 so they didn't have time to get much ready.
If they always planned on supporting Switch fully and making it the new home to one of their biggest titles you'd think they would try and help it grow and make a name early on like with 3DS but they didn't.

So I believe it:
XX Switch Version->MH5 PS4->MH Portable 5th

3G was announced over six months into the life of 3DS. XX for Switch was announced less than three months after launch.

It'll probably get a lot of love from the Resident Evil 6/Lost Planet 2 crowd. There's an audience for that sort of action game.

And I'll probably hate it.

All of this sounds like they were just trying monster hunter into dragons dogma... so why didn't they just make another one of those instead? The game sold well in Japan and capcom wouldn't have had to deal with the issue of drastically changing MH.

I think this is a load of garbage but man it'd just be a dumb business decision for both Sony and capcom so I kinda hope it's true (also would Buy said game)

While I like the thought of having 2 separate games, one for my PS4 and another for my Switch, the thing that worries me the most is the QTE part and the simplified combat for PS4 as well as it not being handled by the core team.
I don't really have a lot of faith in that to be honest. :-/

And yeah, the politics behind the scenes at Capcom seems to be really fucked up.
I wouldn't be surprised if all that is spot on seeing as how they have operated for quite a few years now.
What a mess. Hope everything works out for everyone involved. But I'm fearing the worst.

A westernized MH simply isn't MH anymore; it would alienate the traditional fanbase, especially in Japan.

If this retooled Western version exists, then make it a brand new IP.

Eh, we're finally getting a Dragon's Dogma port on PS4 and XB1 so that was a smart move on their behalf.

True, good on them for that.
Broken clocks and all that...

But being serious while I wouldn't rule out the possibility of something like this happening, the nature of this "leak" seems fishy to me.

It just doesn't make any sense to me, particularly the contract that supposedly specifically forbids ONLY the switch from getting MH5

Like are we really supposed to believe Sony is SHOOK by Nintendo releasing a new handheld?

cw_sasuke

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
Its possible...yeah.
Everything else....well lets wait for e3.

Sounds like a possibility, but I hate it. I don't want to play some weird version of MH with dumbed down mechanics and an open world that doesn't need to exist #47. MH3U on the Wii Ewww was great.
