Everyone is hyped about Stars but they'll probably want people to get excited from new 3DS title.
Because having to make high quality assets?? In HD?! HEAVEN FORBID

They are already HQ assets. Just texture needs some work. That's all.

Pokemon assets have been extremely high quality since X and Y. That's kinda why the games run like shit on the 3DS.

I legitimately fear Switch sales and availability this year if Stars is announced for it.

At that point you're looking at a contender for the best first year for a console ever.

Repeat: Why would Eurogamer be right about literally everything, but wrong about this one thing?

This thing they knew about specifically enough to give it an actual name?

Okay, so this close to E3 I have to imagine it's only 1 of these 2 things: Stars or DP remake.

I have a strong suspicion this is going to be DP remakes for the 3DS as Game Freaks swan song on the console, but I'd much rather have a Sun/Moon "upgrade" on Switch for the sole reason that after playing Switch it has been incredibly hard for me to go back to 3DS. Switch just does portable gaming so well!

What exactly is exciting about that? And if it's a third version it's going to be a 3DS game at heart anyway.

Sun&Moon was a Switch game at heart ported to 3DS because the console wasn't released yet. You can see that because the touch screen is almost not used besides combat and all the UI buttons having an icon for which button to press (as in no touch screen).

Come on Pokken! A Switch release with new characters!

From the arcade version:
Empoleon
Croagunk
Scizor
Darkrai

And then throw in:
Greninja
Jigglypuff
Hawlucha
Zoroark

So we're just ignoring the Super Game Boy, Pokemon Stadium, and Game Boy Player?

Not that I really disagree but those were just ways of playing a handheld game on TV, not an experience designed explicitly for the large screen.

But even if it does end up on Switch, I wouldn't expect a Gen VII game to be that far removed from its handheld legacy.

I hope Pokken Switch gets announced too. The Wii U version never recieved updates and didn't even run in HD.

Pokemon's assets are HD ready, just needs a little bit of cleaning up

Pokemon Direct history:

2013 January: Pokemon X & Y announced
2013 September: PokeBank announced, and Pokemon X & Y additional information
2016 February: Pokemon Sun & Moon announced, and additional information on Red/Blue/Yellow VC release on 3DS

So every Pokemon Direct so far has only contained information in regards to main series titles.

Pokemon Eclipse!!

I think it sounds better than Stars, you know, sun and moon together.

New Pokemon for 3DS

If this was just focused on the 3DS wouldn't you think they might put that information in these announcements to ensure people temper their expectations?

Or maybe they'd leave it ambiguous to get more people to watch?

I guess either option makes sense.

Why would they tell GO updates in a direct when in the past they haven't at all?

Can we just be realistic and say that a new mainline game is coming out

Well, I mean, if the GO updates featured some functionality with whatever game they're about to announce, that would make some sense.

But yeah, it would be a side note, not the main point.

I like this new approach by Nintendo. No more bullshit announcements of announcements that are ten months away or games that are ten years away.

Just basically announce stuff a day in advance and for games, 6 months in advanced.

That's exactly my line of thought. They know that the nostalgia is a huge card they have now.

You do realize that there were 3DS VC releases just last year, and it has PokéBank support right? It's not likely they'll remake the games so quickly.

EDIT:
I wonder how PokéBank will work out if Pokémon Stars ends up getting released on the switch. I don't think it's tied to Nintendo Accounts yet, is it?

Seeing as Mochizuki ( a journalist) recently reminded us of The Pokémon Company making games for the Switch, and with the Eurogamer Stars rumour, I'm pretty confident this will be Pokémon Stars for the Switch, although I won't be surprised if they went and put it on 3DS as well.

Plus if it's an HD version of the last game, it's not going to need a massive blow-out to eat up time on full new games next week.

Nintendo's E3 must be packed if they have to announce the first mainline Pokemon game for consoles a week beforehand

With the exception of Zelda and their panic 2013 Direct, I think this has been their modus operandi for some time.

If it's a new entry in the mainline series, I just want good post-game content...

Loved Sun & Moon, but dropped it after finishing the main story.
