Oh man the reactions when this is real and Wave Race x Pilotwings is Retro's new game.

But that TMS FE port would be amazing, bring it.

My niece will be born possibly during the presentation (by inducement) so I'll be watching after the fact. Can't wait to catch up though.

That's it? Yeah, no Metroid and Xenoblade 2 is not coming this year. For a new console that was just released this doesn't bode well.

Just my opinion.

I'll generally be pleased as long as there are a couple good announcements.

My big fear is either they waste time on Rabbids after Ubisoft showing it (which is to say either they use the same trailer or show more, wasting time) but I guess since they're going after Ubisoft, the announcement might just be here, which is just as bad. I don't even dislike that game being a thing, but it'll still be annoying if they spend too much of that time on it when Ubisoft could have handled it.

Possible/rumored:

-Metroid by outside (UK?) developer
-Virtual Console (probably rebranded) including Gamecube games
-CoD WWII port
-Platinum's "interesting" Switch game
-Rockstar's LA Noire remaster

Wait, wait, wait. This has been an actual rumor somewhere? That sounds crazy.

You'll get Arms, Pokemon and Mario Odyssey. Its going to be like last year I think. Most of the time is going to be devoted to Mario like last year was for Zelda.
Arms will only briefly be touched on if at all, 3DS games won't be in the event, and, yeah, Mario will probably be the focus, but it won't take up most of the time. I'm not expecting a vast amount from next week, but let's not be silly.

I don't think that nintendo is going to sell games that can only be played by buing extra hardware (in this case, gamecube remasters/gamecube vc that require you to buy a pair of joycons with actual analog triggers). They have learned from the past that it greatly limits the number of people that get to play it.
They also enjoyed a very good degree of success with stuff like Wii Sports Resort or Wii Play though (the former is especially relevant to this case, as it had the required extra hardware bundled)

I don't know, I guess if they see a viable, more or less sizeable market, they might go that route. We'll see.

I'm thinking I'm being reasonable about no Metroid being shown and Xenoblade 2 not releasing until 2018 sometime.

It's supposedly coming to all platforms this summer/fall, but it being a Rockstar game on a Nintendo console they may want to touch on it during their presentation.

There's no reason to think Xenoblade 2 will be delayed, at least in Japan. There's nothing at all indicating that, and nothing about the series should suggest that. Xenoblade 1 was never delayed, Xenoblade X was, but was announced far earlier than its supposed release anyway.

I think people tend to forget that Nintendo actually spent less than 5 minutes on showing zelda trailer and do the talking. They actually did most of the talking during treehouse.

I'm checking my expectations.

Back at the Switch reveal, Koizumi said Odyssey was pretty much complete. I wouldn't be surprised if that was largely true for many of these other games as well. So I think Nintendo may have a lot of titles lined up, but they're spacing them out, one month at a time, to avoid first-party droughts that crippled the WiiU. And I think they're timing their announcements accordingly, creating shorter reveal-to-release cycles that are more conducive to hype.

It's a strategy that seems to be working for them, or at least I'd think they see it that way, what with the Switch selling so well. With that in mind, they could be sitting on relatively feature-complete games like a new Pikmin, Animal Crossing or Smash, but they might not necessarily reveal them now if they're saving them for a dry spell and want to maintain a shorter reveal-to-release cycle.

Honestly, I'm just stoked to see more on Splatoon 2, Mario Odyssey, Mario + Rabbids, FE Warriors and Xenoblade 2. Also still riding a high of sorts from Pokken DX.

ARMS at the end of the week is icing on the cake.

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage
I understand that Nintendo did a great job showcasing a lot of games in the April Direct.

My one concern is that since the praise for Nintendo's E3 was almost universal from the media last year, they go the same route and only focus on a few games.

Yeah, this is pretty much exactly what I think they're doing.

Yeah I could see this being true for sure. They even have their own mechanism to announce those games several times a year with Directs, so that works very well in their favor.

But E3 will always have more eyes on it, so they should know to reveal a bit more during E3 than in typical Directs. I expect at the very least some teases of what they have sitting on shelves, because that's the best way to induce hype.

If you really think so, can you name a few reasons why they will delay Xenoblade 2? I'm quite involved with that game and lots of evidence points to it being a 2017 title. Not just in Japan, but worldwide. (Of course this it's not 100% sure until Nintendo announces the date.)

Vern is a better source IMO. He's got everything spot on so far.

On that note he mentioned recently that there's another Payday level shooting franchise that might come to Switch.
Sorry, but do you have a link for where he said this?

Payday level... My mind immediately went to Killing Floor for no apparent reason.

Why does anybody want this? Soulsborne games are RPGs with a lot of loose stat-based elements.

Maybe I need to pay attention to Armored Core.

I think it's because Dark Souls 1 sorta perfected the Metroidvania style world map in 3D space, so people think that means they could make a good Metroid world. I have no idea if they could make a good Metroid game though.

Funny, my mind immediately went to Saints Row for some reason.

so this is just me spitballing but opening up nintendo badge arcade today the rabbit was talking about e3 and was going over some kirby and animal crossing badges

all the badges got replaced and the ones currently in are... interesting.
  • Mario and Luigi badges (from their Mario and Luigi: Paper Jam set)
  • Rhythm Heaven
  • Monster Hunter
  • Zelda
  • the Kirby Badges appear to be from the Canvas Curse
  • the Animal Crossing are the usual though

Gonna go out on a limb and say maybe some of these series will be in the E3 Conference; judging from what we know about the Mario and Luigi remake that has yet to be announced, I wouldn't say it's totally unreasonable to say these badges are hinting at something...

My final Spotlight predictions

Super Mario Odyssey (4 min)
Xenoblade 2 (3 min)
Mario+Rabbids (3 min)
Skyrim Switch (2 min)
Monster Hunter XX (2 min)
Nindies (3 min)
Octopath Traveler (3 min)
COD WWII (2 min)
Smash for Switch (3 min)
Retro's New Game (3 min)
Animal Crossing Switch (3 min)

I'll take a guess for final predictions:

Given: Mario Odessy, FE Warriors, Xeno 2, Mario Rabbids, Zelda DLC

Given Third Party: Skyrim, Fifa, NBA, Sonic

Predictions:

- Metroid shown maybe 2d, 3d or Hd remake. But Metroid is teased and released 2018.
- Another Wii U port or HD remake is announced (beside Smash)
- Smash is 2018
- Nintendo has one more unannounced game for bigger release for 2017.

Third party:
- MHXX world wide launch
- Octopath Traveler
- EA has a second game (maybe Madden, NHL, or Battlefront, or PvZ GW).
-Two JRPG ports are announced (Example: DQ Builders Deluxe, Digimon).
- COD, Overwatch, Battlefront or Destiny will come to Switch in November. Nintendo will have a big holiday shooter for Switch, may not be the same version as PS4 and Xbone.
- Rocket League is coming
- Pacman Maker (Starting a Maker series exclusive to Switch)
- Konami has another game for Switch
- Warner Bros has Lego Worlds, and Batman or Mordor port for Switch. The older games.
- third party support is sparse and will not see and uptick until 2018.

- NO virtual console,

- Netflix announced for Switch
- Nintendo must talk about voice chat during the e3 week. But will not do so during the Spotlight.

-Wild theory:

- Nvidia gaming steaming service comes to Switch. Allows Nintendo Switch users to play Witcher III and others.

Craziness will ensue if:

Retro: two projects. Major project is 007.

I honestly wouldn't get your hopes up for any of those. Maybe Overwatch if we're lucky, but Blizzard may not even have dev kits.

EDIT: Okay, maybe CoD has a chance, but that's really it.

I think that the Switch has the best chance of maybe getting a COD but the rest of those are not happening.

Since nobody else mentions it, there is the chance, that Nintendo will finally add the feature to make videos and uploading them on Youtube.

At this point the only holiday 3rd party game it's possible to appear on Switch is CoD. A poor port of course. I mean, even the Wii U got two CoD games so it would be silly to not have it on Switch.

My prediction is that they will only talk about games with a 2017 release date (and release a press release after delaying xenoblade 2 to 2018). They will tease a 2018 game at the end (Metroid or Smashor Animal Crossing) at the end but just a short clip with no information or release date.
