Last year was phenomenal. The Zelda blowout was great, and Treehouse was fantastic as always.

On a side note, am I the only person who could not care less about getting another Pikmin game?
I played the first one on the GC, never really clicked for me, so I'm not excited for a new one. Still, I want it to happen for others who are excited for it.

Huh? How are gameplay demos not conference material? That's basically the vast majority of every single E3 conference ever.

EDIT: Basically my point is they don't have 90 minute conferences BECAUSE they have the Treehouse. If they had a 90 minute conference to fill (which is what you initially suggested they wouldn't be able to do) then they'd clearly put some of those Treehouse demos in that time, which is exactly what every other conference has. Live gameplay demos.
I wasnt trying to make a point I was just making a statement

Guys. I just realized something horrible!

...

This is going to be the first E3 direct presentation without Iwata! We didn't get a direct at E3 last year since it was just Breath of the Wild, but this time around, we got an E3 without listening to Iwata.

It has been almost two years and yet it was still a passing that was too soon. :(
The last time he addressed fans publicly he was apologizing for a lackluster e3 on twitter :(.

Zelda was cool (and I loved it from start to finish) but it's definitely not gonna carry E3 on it's own. Like even 2015 was better because we finally got a look at the new Star Fox, a series that was dead for nearly a decade.

Oh hah fair enough then.

You may not have liked that E3 but a lot of people did. It really shows the power of that game, how much credit Nintendo got when even showing just a single game.

If Mario Odyssey could rival BotW (like Koizumi joked) then we're in for a superb E3, considering we'll have that on top of plenty of other games.

'very slowly raises hand'

Pretty much any other big Nintendo franchise excites me more than Pikmin, tbh.

Really disliked Pikmin 1 on the Gamecube when I was a kid. Pikmin 3 is pretty great, though.

I'm not entirely sure the Pikmin game Miyamoto was referring to isn't the shovelware filler game that's coming to 3DS

I doubt they have much else this year besides maybe showing Splatoon and Mario. If they do announce anything else like Metroid or Smash it's gonna be for 2018 earliest. Like my switch, but I've been avoiding playing too much Zelda because after that there's just nothing. Glad they made the Switch backwards compatible to support Nintendo game droughts.

They have Xenoblade, Rabbids, Splatoon 2, Fire Emblem Warriors, Pokken, and mario within the next 6 months (with ARMS in a week)
If you really want to play your Switch more you'll have to use the eShop since it's updated weekly with new games.

June- ARMS
July- Splatoon 2
September- Pokken DX
Fall- Fire Emblem Warriors, Skyrim, Runner 3
Holiday- Mario Odyssey
Possible 2017- Xenoblade Chronicles 2
After 2017- No More Heroes 3, Fire Emblem for Switch

plenty of games coming down the pipe for the Switch, and those were some of the notable ones and not counting what comes out on the eShop or some that don't have an "official confirmation" like the Rabbids game.

Also it's key to bear in mind, the source that told LKD (and likely Eurogamer) about "Pikmin 4" was the same one that referenced Pokemon Stars.

I have a feeling that source just got some wires crossed regarding Hey Pikmin and Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon. The way LKD described "Pikmin 4" sounds an awful lot like Hey Pikmin too, and neither her nor Eurogamer have mentioned it with the same level of confidence since.

Thanks for the plug! At the end of the day I think the idea of a Pikmin 4 coming to Switch in 2017 is definitely on the optimistic side of things. Stuff is just not adding up regarding its existence.

You are over looking the fact the 2nd EPD 4 team hasn't worked on a game since Pikmin 3 so either they are working on a new ip or Pikmin.

I find this so weird. I mean I get that most of the other games on it are ports for the time being, but you've already played them all? I'm playing I Am Setsuna right now, playing Kamiko from time to time, Fast RMX is still damn fun (especially with a buddy), all the Neo Geo games are great for quick pick up and play sessions, etc.

I have a fuckin' Switch backlog (Shifty, Snake, Wonderboy, Master Blaster) and other people are saying there's nothing to play.

We should at least see a teaser for whatever Smash game is coming for the Switch, even if it's coming out in 2018. Smash 4 was first shown at the first E3 after the Wii U's launch.

Don't get your hopes up. I can see them holding that until the "online service direct" they'll inevitably have either later this year or early next year.

Who knows, because they've had to delay their online service maybe that means Switch Smash won't just be a port.

The next Pikmin game is probably 2018 and beyond. I mean, Pikmin is not a big enough series to launch two games in one year.

I'd rather see any of the following before Pikmin:

Animal Crossing
Metroid
F-Zero
Luigi's Mansion
Star Fox (a good one this time)
Earthbound
Pilotwings
Wave Race
Warioware
Wario's Woods
Donkey Kong Country
Donkey Kong Jungle Beat
Wii Music
Rhythm Heaven
Pokemon
Elite Beat Agents
Wii Sports
Kirby
Yoshi
Kid Icarus
Punch out
Golden Sun
Sin and Punishment

the list goes on and on. Please read it in Plinkett's voice.

But I'm still smiliing at these people who believed like the guy from Gamexplain, that there migt really only be 4 worlds in Mario Odyssey..

It should be noted he said he himself he didn't believe there'd only be 4 worlds, but he was putting the evidence for it out there

Do people really care about Pokken?

I'm sure Arms won't come up, they already did two directs on it, well 1 1/2 technically. There'll be surprises for sure, I'm just hoping the Rabbids thing will be on Ubi entirely and not suck away time from the Nintendo reel.

Almost one million was sold when the wiiu was clearly dead with no support anymore, and there still some tournament in the FGC (even it's small). So yeah I think people care and with the switch there is the chance that the FGC about this game will grow even more.

I skipped Pokken on Wii U but I'm in for Switch. They don't really need to give it any/much attention in the Spotlight though.

This is how it is for a ton of the bigger WiiU games.

Smash had lower adoption than it could have otherwise, TMS, etc. All could be moved over to Switch to give them a second chance.

This is the kind of shit that WOULD be announced too, making 5 fans across the world watching really happy.
Lets see: Nintendo pays Fummy to make a The Witch's House remake for 3DS or Switch.

Yeah, that would be more hype for me than any other announcement they could make. If it only made me happy and everyone else was pissed off at no other new games then I ain't even mad, lol.

Seriously Nintendo, THIS will make ATLEAST five people happy! #YOLO

Now all we need is for Sakurai to throw us a curveball and have is next game be Super Nindie Bash. He abandons Nintendo for the real crossover.

Help! I have no idea what I'm saying anymore! WTF. Ellen & The House for Smash!

Given Nintendo's focus on new IPs as of late I'd bet that's the case. I think there's probably going to be at least one new AAA IP from them a year at this rate, especially so they can ensure their established franchises are spread out.

If there is Pikmin though I don't see it coming till maybe 2019.

hey skittz where did you read about koizumi saying this? Not that i don't think mario odyssey is going to be spectacular of course.

The other thing you Pikmen have to worry about is that if Hey Pikmin sells, it might be just as likely the Switch sees a sequel to that as Pikmin 4.

Man, seeing all these PC/PS4 announcement threads is a bit disheartening. I own a PS4 pro and PC but damn do I want games for the Switch.

Hopefully E3 delivers. I want fresh single player content that isn't just 2D indie games :-/

Edit: I was gonna provide examples but the only one I see on the front page is Buber lol. I swear I've seen more...

The issue with that is what genre that they don't have a foot hold would be next?

It's true. I'm not even trying to port beg or anything, but every time a new game, whether indie, multiplatform, etc. and Switch isn't included, I'm bummed out. I should be used to it at this point, but I'm really hoping it turns around if Switch sells well. Shades of being a Wii U owner.

Should have played the Wii version aka the superior version.
Pretty sure I own both Wii-releases.
Never got around to playing it, tho

The demo was fun and it apparently sold pretty well even on Wii U. Would likely break a million easy.
Cross your fingers for Codename: S.T.E.A.M. 2!
Code Name Steam 1 was actually pretty mediocre and as an IP it's kind of garbage (setting, visuals, characters are all worthless)

On one hand I took a day off Tuesday, on the other hand, I'm not sure I want to see a lot of Mario Odyssey. Life is fool of tough choices.

I hope it is only 2017 games, + maybe Fire Emblem. Nintendo needs to give Mario Odissey the Botw treatment, so I hope it has as much footage as possible.

Personally, I don't like the BotW treatment. I only watched the BotW content I was leery of because I didn't want to spoil the stuff I thought I'd be sold on (the shrines)...so it just sort of reinforced my misgivings about the game.

As much footage as needed. Mario Odyssey doesnt look as big as BOTW so I hope they contain the footage in one area. The city alone should be good mixed with other games showing up. Thats one game that doesnt need to be spoiled in any way shape or form.

I desperately need a new Pikmin - it's a top 3 Nintendo franchise for me. All I need is a new Pikmin game and Animal Crossing and I'll pretty much be set for life with those 2 along BotW.

Zelda was the highlight of last years E3 overall, but how much of the spotlight (or whatever it was called) itself was actually Zelda?

While I agree it deserves great treatment, I say a few minutes trailer in the Spotlight is enough, and the rest of the footage should be available sometime after via Treehouse, journalist direct feed videos or other random tutorial-like videos that will go live throughout E3.
