Oceanhorn announced for Switch - June 22 (1080p60 docked)

Doesn't hold a candle to the actual Zelda series, but it's a fairly enjoyable, if not simple Zelda clone. Probably better suited to the Switch than the PS4 though, and I assume the Vita port is long since dead.

Vita port came out a few weeks ago.

EDIT: Ninja'd with nearly exact same phrasing.

Wait, seriously? Damn, can't believe I skipped over it on the PS Blog. Thanks for the heads up.

Looks like it's not cross buy with the PS4 version, but if it runs well I might grab it again for the Vita. I'll see if there are any gameplay videos out there.

The only problem is that I don't know if I want to play a Zelda clone when I can play BotW in the same console (and I'm still playing it from dayone).

It's nothing like BOTW and has more in common with other action-RPGs from the early-mid 90s than it does with Zelda. Yeah there is some rudimentary sailing but otherwise it's nothing like Wind Waker. I grew up with these kinds of games, there were a ton of them especially on the SNES and Genesis (Landstalker, Lagoon, Soul Blazer, Crusader of Centy, Beyond Oasis, Illusion of Gaia, Equinox, Alundra, etc -- the list goes on and on) and they were all great fun. Nowadays anything NEW in this genre gets dismissed by many here as a "Zelda clone", which is unfortunate.

15 for a 10 hour story? Ehhh...

You're doing wrong.

I calculate it this way:

If I play more than the time it takes me to earn the money to buy the game, it's a winner.

So, if I make 20$/hour I'll need to play this for 45 minutes for it to be worth it.

You'll appreciate more games that way! :p

the first piece of music is waaay too similar to "to Zanarkand"... and then the next piece, too similar to wind waker's theme... game needs more personality.

Probably because they got Kenji Ito and Nobuo Uematsu to compose the soundtrack.

Doesn't read OPs, especially not his own
Yo this WW af, even the music in the trailer intentionally makes you think it was gonna play the ocean theme from ww

Most of the music in the game is pretty anonymous (and written by someone I haven't heard of). The ones that actually stand out are in the trailer, haha (and both by Uematsu).

This was a decent Zelda clone when I played it on my phone in 2013 or whatever but I'm not sure how well its going to hold up on a system where you can actually play Zelda instead,
It's definitely not as good as BOTW but I liked it a lot, it's old school Zelda with nice graphics and a pretty okay story, I'd rate it 8/10 and I'll definitely get this for Switch.

Character with sword and shield goes on an adventure and must complete puzzle filled dungeons while making use of a bow and arrow and throwable bombs. Regular keys that are found will open small doors and master keys will open the door to the boss. Watch out for the skeleton an goblin enemies on the way! A heart meter serves to show the health of the character. Help can also be found in breakable pots.

Comparisons like "This is like the Souls series." and others are annoying but this is a case where the comparison works. It is clearly heavily inspired by the Zelda series.

Havent we already been past this?

Its the same genre as Zelda so the comparisons are valid, but it owes just as much to Final Fantasy and other games in the genre. Oceanhorn even has an Airship moment. That doesnt happen in Zelda.

I played this on PS4 and really liked it- the art style & writing & combat & puzzly environments are great.

I never finished it though because it's old-school difficult, meaning there's no giant markers telling you to "GO HERE" so I got stuck several times on not knowing how to progress, so eventually I gave up because i didn't feel like looking up a wiki.

Oceanhorn releasing today. I see it is $14.99. I will definitely be grabbing it to play between ARMS rounds. Anyone else?

Most games have 2 hour dlc chapters for 15. And resident evil 7 is 7-8 hours and was 60.

15 for 10 hours is pretty good man. Some retail games don't even have that much play time.

Agreed. Seems they put in some effort to the port as well. $15 is like a few beers and more than fair for 10 hours of gameplay.

It's not a bad game, but a disappointing game.

Despite mixed reviews, I picked this up on PS4 purely on the back of the trailer/videos. Of course there is a clear homage to Wind Waker, and combined with the almost isometric/top-down old-school style of gameplay I thought I'd be instantly hooked. But what I got to play felt surprisingly generic and by-the-numbers and it just didn't scratch the itch I expected it to. I think it's because it's trying to be so many other games rather than just being its own, and for that it just ends up lacking that special something to make it all worthwhile.
I gave it a negative review on Steam, just wasn't fun at all and the level design is atrocious.
And this too. I think the level design is a big part of the reason why it struggles to engage. All the elements look to be there in the trailer - exploration, discovery, puzzles, secrets, RPG mechanics etc. But the reality is the game just isn't well designed enough to make any of that stuff interesting compared to the games it's trying to emulate.

Not sure I might pass based on what other users here are saying about it.

If you've got a PS4, I urge you to try the demo first (not sure if there will be a demo version on Switch). That should give you a decent idea of whether you'll like it or not, and I'd recommend doing that rather than just jumping straight in like I did. It's one of those games that looks far better in videos than it actually is to play.

Just played the demo on PS4 and yeah, think I might skip this one.

It's not a bad game per se but I can definitely understand why some people think it's uninspired and I could see myself getting bored with it well before get to the credits.

I tried the demo and got it mainly because it's made by fellow finns. And it's reasonably priced for what it is, unlike Cave Story.

I bought this because I wanted another 3D indie title to add to my collection, but eh, it's boring. The controls and movement aren't fantastic, you don't exactly move fast and the combat is generally mindless. It looks nice mind you, and at only 280MB it shows what can be done to make a 1080p 10+ hour 3D game when you're not using Unreal Engine 4 (why the fuck is Snake Pass 4.1 GB?).

To be fair I'm still at the first island, though I'm kinda wishing I'd bought Shantae instead (but... it's not the same without the 3DS 3D effect ;P)

LOL yes and of course the developers themselves have talked about the comparisons..

Kind of surprised Nintendo would OK it.

Games have been stealing from each other for decades. As long as you're not too blatant with it... plus, it doesn't play as much like a Zelda title as you'd expect. If it had the tight controls of A Link Between World's it'd be a much better game for it and more fun to play, but the current system is just tedious. It shouldn't be that hard to fix either, but consider this has been out on PS4 for a while and nothing has changed for Switch, I don't expect any improvement. It's not a terrible game mind, and I'll probably finish it at some point, but not worth playing over reading a book or something.

Fuzzy

I would bang a hot farmer!
How limited are quantities when Limited Run Games puts physical stuff out? Do they pretty well sell out instantly?
Pretty quickly. They put up 2 batches for all their releases, one at 10am ET and one at 6pm ET. I don't see Nintendo ever approving them as a publisher unless fans raise a huge stink and I wouldn't count on it even then.
