Sentai wants $80 for Onigiri, a 52 minute show. I don't think even Aniplex would pull this shit. Or maybe they did?

In This Corner of the World (or In The Corner of This World as my cinema confusingly called it)

I've actually been the the Hiroshima Peace Memorial and the museum there, so I thought I was prepared for this film, but like always, I couldn't help it and the tears flowed at the end. T__T

I figured you were unhappy with the current state of anime, given how much your discussion of it this year seemed to center around your dislike of Little Witch Academia and a few other shows. That's unfortunate. While I share some of your complaints regarding the plotting of Eccentric Family S2, I'm still glad it exists with its striking visual and direction style and fascinating world. Plus I feel like I can hardly be disappointed with a season that provided unexpected original gems such as ID-0 and Tsuki ga Kirei as well as continuing stars such as Pokemon Sun and Moon and Tiger Mask W. But if you had a lot of expectations for a franchise continuation which were not delievered on in the way you had hoped, I can understand why that would be upsetting.

I don't have any grand thesis on the current state of anime but I was certainly disappointed (to varying degrees) by a number of shows I checked out this season, whether it was returning favourites like Eccentric Family S2 or promising new ventures like Kado. Still that doesn't overly concern me as next season could well have something that I'll enjoy more.

RE: Sun and Moon & Tiger Mask W, I've checked these out and I can certainly agree that those both of those shows are doing their own thing pretty well. At the moment, however, I'm not really into either of those genres of show.
A little harsh on Attack on Titan, it was an actual good show worthy of the hype this season, unlike the first season.
Perhaps my comment was unclear.

Attack on Titan S2 is undoubtedly a huge step up from the first season (perhaps something of a JoJo's level of improvement). However, that doesn't mean it's an excellent show. In a season with a Mob Psycho 100 or Rakguo it wouldn't be the top of my list. However I don't think we have a work of that tier (or even approaching that tier) this season. I generally like to walk a way from a season of anime with 1 show that I love, which unfortunately isn't the case here. I'd expect that to be the case in a Summer, rather than Spring, season.

(Nier: Automata was all the anime I needed this season anyway)

[In this Corner of the World] (Not a great title)

This was very good and deserves a more thorough write-up when I have time. I was not expecting my Japanese WWII movie to have so many elements of magical realist fiction.

I hate to make my only lengthy comment one of criticism, because the film does so many things well, but there's one thing bugged me throughout the movie. There are a number of shots that seem ever so slightly too short. I felt this was especially true at the start of the film, where I felt like almost every shot needed to be held for another second (or more) to have the desired impact. The speed of some of the edits even got a little confusing at times in a manner that was surely unintended. This problem lessened throughout the movie but it still cropped up occasionally later on. It was one strangely unpolished element in an otherwise very effectively directed film.

If you do have a chance to catch it in the cinema you should definitely go to check it out. I can't think of anyone who wouldn't get something out of the film.

Yeah, that was a bit odd. One got used to it though.

I think it's still worthwhile despite the 3D CG mixed in. Everyone's a working adult character at least, despite the dumb developments of late.

I'm so far in that I might as well stick with the show until the end.

I think this whole episode can be summed up with the phrase well that escalated quickly n many regards.

Should I watch Kado?

Sticking with a seasonal show until the bitter end is one thing, but if anyone came to me asking whether Kado was worth watching or not, I'd just say "no". It did look like it was going to be using an interesting premise at first, but then it got more and more generic as time went on, all while the cheap 3D models and animation didn't really help matters IMO.

Should I watch Kado?

Depends, If you wanted something really solid, with quality rising tension, hard, or Hardish sci-fi, and an exploration of political and social changes/dynamics from alien contact then you'll be disappointed as it gravitates away from that in favor of increased anime trope-esque developments and what's feeling like a rushed "no way this story could actually finish in 12 episodes if we'd kept the original pace/style" ending.

Tokyo Raven ep.15-16

The magical battles in this show are incredibly well done and are a pleasure to watch. The dialogue and story are just so so, but the twists and turns are fun to watch play out.

For some reason I saw those two screens, thought the guy was Shindo from Kado, and got really excited for the final episode. LOL. :(

Welcome to the NHK - Completed: This ended up being a pretty pleasant surprise. The last couple of episodes turned it from a pretty good series, to a great one in my book. I especially loved the ending, as bitter-sweet it was
the fact that Satou and Misaki have to learn to cope day-to-day with their issues instead of their being a quick fix.

ID-0 12 END

I'll do a full writeup of the show soon, but I want to express my admiration for the show saying "The operation will start in 20 seconds" and then having the operation actually start right after 20 seconds of elapsed time. That almost never happens in anime.

and yet you will watch it the wrong way :p

joke aside though the series really does have a solid dub. I think it was one of the last ones Laura Bailey did for funimation. (last one being kid trunks in buu kai most likely)

Oh this is just reminding me to watch. I have no intention on watching it subbed. :p

Eureka Seven 3-4

You're telling me this teenage girl didn't give birth to these three 5-8 year old kids?

well it's hard to tell in anime who is a teenage girl and who is a 1.2k year old space dragon.

Oh this is just reminding me to watch. I have no intention on watching it subbed. :p

either way you will get to listen to these great songs again

Love Tyrant, Episode 10 - Probably the funniest episode of the series so far. Its also weird how the little sister is actually the best girl in the series for once lol

School Rumble ep.4-6

Oh man, a couple of these segments were pretty damn hilarious. Tenma as a clueless flakey girl kinda grates me a little bit, but I can't stop myself from laughing at some of this stupid stuff, lol.
