For the record: McCain has been on Trump's side for all but 1 piece of legislation (I believe he also voted against Pruitt's confirmation) and the Russia sanctions. I would hope this experience would reveal to him the importance of having reliable healthcare for when one is ill, but i'm not going to be that surprised if he becomes the Senate's Chaffetz in the healthcare vote.

Why in the world aren't they just sleezing by with a skype call for the vote. They would get away with it with sanctimonious appeals to the medical condition of a 'war hero'.

Keep feeding yourself bullshit.

I've heard similar shit before:

"Explain demographics, Trump's approval, electoral college, checks and balances, polling, Brexit being totally different."

Those things aren't like any that he mentioned. Just leave, man. If you want to troll, do it sometime else, we're trying to have serious discussions here and you're just muddying it up with this bullshit

You can't deny a dying man his final wish to send millions to their death, to his face.

Pres. Obama clearly knew it wouldn't be long before Senator McCain returned to work.

Higher, Bams, higher. You're almost there...

Like those serious discussions months ago where all of you declared this bill dead? Reality check, people. This bill is still alive, and no amount of "but I actually understand how reconciliation works" is gonna change that.

Which bill is alive? Point me to the one that is getting passed.

You have no fucking idea what's even happening right now and you come in here strutting around like you're the best.

If McCain votes the way I expect him too... I can't blame him really. After all, he must represent the will of his constituents- and seeing as he was probably voted by conservatives who hate Obamacare with their life, it only makes sense. Seems like some of you do not realize the level of vitriol and hate Republicans have for Obamacare, they literally think its the worst piece of legislation in their lifetime.

You are so fucking smug. I understand they vote on a motion to proceed. Trying to nail me on technicalities, while you're missing the bigger picture. This shit is not dead, Jim. They will will it into existence, simply because they hate Obama so much.

Better get your protest signs ready, because neither Mueller nor the Byrd Rule will save your ass.

I want to believe there's a timeline where McCain comes back with a surprise "no" vote after an intense bout of soul-searching in the hospital....

All the bills so far have had little support, even from Republicans. As it turns, no matter how much they hate the name, people still get really nervous when they actually are going to lose their health insurance. This doesn't represent anyone except the wealthy 1%

They will just...will it into being, violating the byrd rule and passing it without a CBO score? I wasn't aware McConnell was a powerful Wizard!

Can McCain be the white dove to return from his journey to the end and spark a party wide epiphany with a soul searching introspective into the frailty and value of humanity followed by a cathartic and oscar winning 'no' vote?

Ted Kennedy came out to vote for the thing that was essentially his life's work that he was deeply involved in, finally coming to reality. John McCain is coming out for the explicit purpose of being a vindictive piece of shit over a thing he's blindly supporting because of his party.

These are not equal, unless you want to argue that repealing Obamacare has been McCain's life work and the one thing he cares about more than anything else in the world including his own life and the hundreds of thousands of his own constituents he's trying to take health care away from.

Gee, I fucking wonder why? Maybe conservative talk radio/Fox News propaganda leveraging their base's racism by renaming ACA to Obamacare and repeatedly lying to them on a minute by minute basis for years into believing it's evil and the death panels are gonna kill grandma?

This bill is universally reviled across all states, including the one McCain represents. It's seen by everyone as just Obamacare-lite that doesn't resolve any of the issues they had with ACA.

P.S. Republicans deserve all the hate they're getting and then some. If this bill goes through, I guarantee you the Democrats will take back both houses during the midterms (I doubt the Alabama seat up for election will go blue this year to make things more difficult for Republicans in pushing through their horrific agenda), mostly because of the hate they'll receive for turning this bill into law.

The more I think about it, the possibility of him being party first could be to keep Megan in good graces and securing the family future in politics.

They hate Obamacare, but they love the ACA.

Like, McCain is not an idiot. And he's not one of his constituents. He KNOWS he's voting to take away healthcare from millions of Americans, and that when it's gone his voters are not going to care what it was called.

There might be but we're not in it. Get ready for Tom Brady to 19-0 and bring up Trump for the presentation ceremony too. Worst timeline confirmed.

McCain is supposed to vote for the best option for his constituency not the most popular. That is why we have a representative democracy. In this instance he doesn't even have the flimsy excuse of reelection prospects.

It has like a 20% favorable rating. If Senators need to represent the will of their constituents, then it should get like zero votes. So, yeah, I'm perfectly fine blaming McCain for voting for this.

20% is the highest polling. There's been polling with as low as 12%.

I hope McCain surprises me, but I won't be surprised if he doesn't.

Cancer is an awful thing, no matter the person, and I won't wish him ill. However, all my sympathy for him will be gone after that.

I wonder if this is a sign that Republicans have agreed behind closed doors to pass the health care bill? Otherwise not sure they would rush him back like this.

Jesus Christ just fucking croak already.

There's not going to be a surprise. He's going to vote to repeal. It's just a mad rush to win - always against some impending deadline. This time it happens to be the old fart's own death.
